I never ever ever ever had this experience before.. The bad experience for me is that most of the $1 coupons don`t accept paypal as a payment option.. Don`t get me wrong, I don`t use only godaddy, I use most of the domain registrars, but godaddy isn`t that much of a dissapointment for me..

I also prefer Namecheap over Godaddy, but to say Godaddy keeps you hostage is probably not right.

Both Namecheap and Godaddy are very good domain registrars.

I've heard this kind of thing before but have to say I purchased my first domain name about 12 years ago and it just happened to be through Godaddy. Probably simply because they're the one's I stumbled into first. In the period of more than a decade since I've purchased several hundred domain names through them and have not had one single issue with my domains. NOT ONE single issue.

Must just have good luck I guess?

Same here. Have a few domains registered at (but not hosted with) GoDaddy. Purchase and renewal process has always gone smoothly.

Yes, GoDaddy has so many upsells but you can uncheck them all. All of them are optional and GoDaddy has never tricked me or anything. But I know that some people find their upsells annoying.

You can buy domains for $.99. It comes to $1.17 when all is said and done. I have a few domains I bought just recently for $1.17. You can also download a Firefox add-on called Honey and get domains for the same price. It is AWESOME!!

from me... I wonder what people "do" to get their domains
taken away from them. Always 2 sides to every story, if not 3!

It's not just a $1 domain name offer, if the domain must the hosted at slowdaddy, is it? Are you allowed to transfer the name to another host? They are known for making it very easy to give them money for services, but very tedious if you wish to take something away from them.

I'm all for dinking them out of as many dollars as possible, god knows they did it to me. I'd take their offer for $1 .coms and host them elsewhere, but I'm guessing they have that covered. They're smarter than you think.

If you register a domain at GoDaddy, you can host your site at any hosting company you'd like. And you can easily transfer your domain name to another registrar at any time.

I have never had an issue with Godaddy. The repossession people cite here is often because there is some payment issue involved and by that I mean some sort of fraud. Also if someone outside of the U.S. registers a .us thay may take it away, stuff like that.
Godaddy cannot legally confiscate your domain, your property, without a legitimate cause.

If you are diligent you will find places on the internet that list these Godaddy 1-2 coupons throughout the month. Well worth the effort. IMO.

You can check google for $1 godaddy coupons and find several of these there.
But i don't use godaddy because they don't accept paypal payments.

I used to have 300 domains with Godaddy. I let some expire and transferred the others to Namecheap. Never had any held hostage. Just decided I like Namecheap when Godaddy backed SOPA legislation.

If you can get the domain for a buck from Godaddy, I would still register it with them and then transfer it to Namecheap in 60 days. Save some money on initial registration anyway.

As for using Paypal, I always paid for domains from Godaddy with Paypal. Not sure why you can't.

  I think he/she is talking about the 99 cent promotional offers. Usually, if you use those 99 cents discount codes/coupons you have to pay with a credit card. Godaddy won't accept PP for those.

Lol Godaddy. I would much rather pay a little bit extra for higher quality service. I personally use Dynadot and 1st Domains (NZ) and have always had fantastic service from both.

GoDaddy's payment option eliminates Paypal with the use of some coupons, especially these $1 ones.

I got one for a buck from networksolutions.com. So far so good.

  I would have expected that some of their $1 domain offers require you to buy hosting too, and I would rather recommend against that.
  
  As far as their domain service goes, I've been very happy with that. I also like to have all my domains in one place. I've lost some domains that I had registered elsewhere. I prefer to keep my organizational stuff as easy as possible. For hosting, though, I go with Hostgator.

I ordinarily use Namecheap, but I have bought 3 domains in the last month from GoDaddy, using the Honey plugin with Google Chrome. I have gotten 2 for $.99 and one for $1.99. All you have to do is add the domain (only works with one at a time) to cart, click go to checkout, then down at the bottom of the page the Honey plugin has a little button to click "Find savings", and it will run through a bunch of coupon codes until it finds a valid one, and the end result will show in your cart.

This only works for one domain each time, so if you need more than one you need to checkout for the first domain, then do the process again for each additional domain you wish. There is no requirement to host with GoDaddy, you can point your nameservers wherever you wish.
