Optimum Listing Time on Flippa

I've got a WP site first registered in June 2005 with a lot of content, but apart from adding an occasion sporadic post, I've done nothing to promote it since 2009.

Anyway - long story short, I've decided to list it on Flippa; I'm sure it could be a good money maker with the TLC it deserves.

My question is, Flippa is recommending I list it for 2 weeks. Is that a good idea or should I go for a shorter listing? I seem to recall reading once that buyers procrastinate if they think they have a long time to make up their minds.

I've never used Flippa before so I'm a complete novice, and I'd appreciate some advice from Warriors who have some experience with Flippa.

  • What's the site worth? Ballpark range?

    For sites under $10k, I'd go with 5-7 days, no more than that. You want maximum exposure from day one so start with a low starting bid (I tend to use $1 start, no reserve - which everyone in the "site flipping" industry seems to have copied over the years).

    In terms of when to list, I would recommend ending on a Saturday for a lower end site. At that level, the buyer(s) you will attract are likely to have day jobs and be less likely to be on top of it during the week. Higher end sites can be listed during the week as most buyers at that level are full-time online and don't have other work commitments.

    • I haven't got a clue what it's worth, but as I said, it's an 8 year old dot com domain with a lot of content. Five and six years ago it was a steady earner with a lot of traffic, then I made the mistake of spreading myself too thin and from 2009 on it became sadly neglected.

      9 sites in the same niche list under recently sold and they made between $9,500 and $2,301. The lowest one had less uniques but claims earnings of $100/month.

  • I normally list for about 10 days for both high end and cheap sites. For me the most important aspect is finishing the auction on a weekend. Sunday seems to work best for me.
