Do Micro Niche Sites Still Work?

Came across this in my email today: Why Micro Niche Sites No Longer Work (and What You Need to Focus on Instead) | Flippa Blog | The Home of Web Entrepreneurs

I've gotta disagree with the author. I recently got a five page site to the very top of Google, and while it hasn't brought the numbers I expected, I will have no trouble clearing four figures for the month

Thoughts?

  • It can still work, but if you're looking toward the future it isn't ideal. Google has made it clear that they are pushing authority sites over micro-niche sites.

There will always be exceptions to that, but micro-niche sites aren't the 'gold mine' they once were.

I think micro niche sites work well. The problem with bigger sites is that the whole site can get Google slapped for a few poor links, and a lot of work has just gone down the drain.

I don't think that exact match domain names work as well as they used to, and it feels like Google is churning the sites at the top more than they used to, but I believe that niche sites are still the best way to go.

Yes they work. Just provide value rather then crappy content with a spammy backlink profile.

Not had one problem ranking small micro niches. Every site I build is micro niche to start off with. Then I turn them into an authority in a small niche eventually.

Dominating a small niche has been really profitable for me.
