How to increase sales?

Hi,

I have been working on building my online business for about a year and haven't been able to build traction.
At the moment I am making a profit of about 10 USD a month, not really enough to make a living.

The product I am promoting is The Time Management Expert Course
I do this through my blog Get Tips on Time Management, The Success Principle and Start Making Personal Developments at Looking to Business.com and its autoresponder and through my affiliate network.

Could you give me some advice on improving my sales funnel, sales page or overal business?

Thanks!

It looks to me like you have got a pretty good set up there.
So you just need more people coming through.

I would network offline as well as online to get people to your site. If you are the Time management expert then you might even get some bookings. It is a skill much in demand.

Look up Will Edwards here on the forum. He has been successful in a similar market.

Here's the structure , you or any business can follow

    1) Who is your target market?

    2) Where they hangout? (forums, website, search keywords etc)

    3) Go infront of them with your offer

This is the core formula which will work in any industry any product. Now, how to get more clients. Noone can tell you that. Here's what i recommend

    1) Use ppc ads to drive traffic. In the beginning you willloose money. Thats allright, get prepared to loose some money.

    Now, ppc>>> lead capturepage/first product >>> upsell/more products

Drive traffic and keep improving your ppc ads, bid price, main front end product, upsell.

    There you go

What sort of traffic numbers are you getting already and where are the majority of them coming from?

To my blog I get about 90% from google and 10% from guest posts and article marketing posts.

To my sales page I get about 30% from google, 40% from my blog and autoresponder and 30% from affiliates.

What I see as my largest problem is the conversion rates on my sales page, I have between 5 000 and 12 000 visitors per month on my blog and between 500 and 1000 visitors to my sales page.
But this generates much to few sales.

Even if I doubled the traffic the sales would not be significant.

You mentioned autoresponder and that's good if you're building your own email list. Try to have good relationship with your subscribers. If they trust you and they see that you only offer quality and value, your leads will be much easier to convert to sales. It's your long time asset, anyway. People will be happy to buy if they can see the value of it.

    Good luck!

90% of your traffic is from Google. Ok, so what terms are people searching in Google to arrive at your site. They may be looking for completely different stuff to what is on your site. It happens.

You need to study the phrases and keywords people are using to find your site and they should give you a good indication of what people are expecting when they hit your site.

Your sales copy it pretty weak. No doubt you could increase your conversions with better copy. Take a look in the copywriting section of the forum and ask for a few pointers. Then test 2-3 different copies to find one that converts better.

You've got enough traffic to test, now you just need to find the copy that converts.

After your sales page is converting, I'd look at how many optins you're getting and how well your autoresponder is converting, and then improve those numbers next before ramping up more traffic.

If you ask me, your offer is the problem.

If I'm looking to buy a course on improving my time management skills, I don't want 1 lesson per week for 5 months. I'd rather go to Amazon and buy a kindle book for $10 that I can dive into immediately.

You're trying to compete with $10 and instant fulfillment by offering $99.85 and 5 month fulfillment.

Memberships and drip feeding content are just a poor fit for some markets.

Oh, I missed that the first time around. Yes, that is a HUGE problem. No one wants to wait 5 months to get the results. That's far too long.

You need to understand that people are all about instant gratification. If they have a problem they want a solution right now. Not tomorrow, not in a months time, not in 5 months time.

I think a lot of people who offer these monthly type programs are doing so just as a way to justify charging more money for that information. Find a way to make the course much shorter but add value so the price is still justifiable.

People will be much happier with their purchase if they can get the results after just a few weeks as opposed to 5 months worth of work. 5 months to me just says a lot of hard work which is what most people are scared of. Make it sound much simpler and much more achievable. Maybe even a 5 WEEK course.

I think Victor and Lance nailed it. And Will too, in his last comment.

The sales copy needs some serious work, and yes, the offer is not at all convincing.

So I would first change the offer and then rewrite the sales copy (or have a copywriter do the rewrite).

Also put a pop up on the page offering a short report that answers a burning question, so you can follow up with people who aren't yet on your list and eventually get them to buy it.

Focus on a way to get them the keys right away, and if you offer a longer-term program, make that about accountability and follow-up, not drip feeding.

In fact, you may want to consider giving them the basic program right away, and then offering a group coaching program on the upsell, where you have them meet weekly and provide support, brain storming, trouble shooting, and accountability.

          That might work...

          Good luck!

          P.S.: And THEN send traffic!

In addition to some good points made, I guess you need to have your own autoresponder and follow up series. Then simply follow up and follow up and offer other related stuffs.

Then, send targeted traffic - many sources such as PPC, FB ads, banner ads, etc. Good luck

All the affiliates in the world won't make a bit of difference if the offer doesn't convert.

    its pretty simpe for us.

Squeeze page => list => offers.

but the process inbetween is knowing how in the process you got the sale, and then tweaking that to increase conversions.

Most of all, more traffic, and the bigger your list will mean more income, if you do things right. For us it comes down to not only traffic but getting better conversions with that traffic, and that is more testing. Then more testing on top of that testing. :-)

    Hi DMWood,

I think there has been some very valuable posts by other people here and I can see your challenges, you have more than 1 challenge at the moment and these are just my thoughts from selling online products for almost a year now (we sell our own products, so the things I talk about you might have to adapt a little for the product you are selling).

Observation 1 - You have a fantastic level of traffic coming to you, we have sold products with FAR, FAR, FAR less traffic then you have coming to your website. The level of traffic is often not the challenge, its the quality of the traffic. However you do have affiliate traffic (in my opinion the best type of traffic) coming to you and thus I don't think your traffic is the challenge

Observation 2 - Blog Opt-In, I have a few things which I would personally change here and it is a bit of a list, so stay with me on this one, again this is my experience and some people may have a different point of view to me, so this is not the ultimate advice, just my opinion

    1. Opt-In - You have opt-in on the page (I would love to know how many people opt-in on your blog as a % of visitors)

    - The optin in too low down on the page and people have to scroll to even see it, I would put it at the top (move the RSS feed to somewhere else), your aim at this point should be to ENSURE you have the highest possible optin rate, because you never know when someone is going to buy from you, it maybe immediately it maybe in a few weeks.
    - Too much going on, when you send someone to a blog I think it should just be a blog and a opt-in, so the ONLY 2 things they can do is read your blog or opt-in, when people have the opportunity to explore they will do and therefore may forget to or then decide not to optin (the internet is so friggin busy nowadays that everything must be impactful immediately or you lose the potential customer). So simplify the whole page and don't have lots of links (the only bit I would keep on this page is the affiliates link - but I would put it as a small text link at the bottom of the page as if people really want to affiliate with you they will find a way to scroll down and see your affiliate link - again my opinion). Although having lots of pages may help you rank higher (I am not expert on this so please find someone who is and ask them)
    - PopUp - I notice on one of the pages you have a pop-up that has a opt-in, why not put this on the home page? Better still why not have it as a popup on exit, so when someone tries to leave then have the popup come up. (I don't think this is the most important, this is more of a tweak that needs testing)
    - COPY - Someone else mentioned this, your copy is just not compelling enough "Do you dream of greater things?" The answer to this for most people is yes BUT its not specific enough, so its great that you have got a yes and you need to make a STATEMENT instead of asking a question as it is more powerful (people will agree or disagree with the statement and the important thing is that the statement physcologically is definate, a question can leave people in limbo which to be frank won't get many opt in and if you do get opt in's they won't be decisive on the next bit when they are buying) - so as an basic template (you may have to edit this to suit you)

'How to do X in Y Time'

In your case your free email course maybe
'How to double your results in 50% of the time'

I can not stress how important the copy is! Without decent copy you won't convert ANYONE!

Then you need a good sub title with a call to action "Enter your details Now to receive this free Ebook 'TITLE OF EBOOK'"

Get rid of the bonuses, if you have something for free you don't want to give away more free stuff as the perceived value of the initial free item is then diluted! Your initial free item NEEDS to be MASSIVE high value, your very BEST stuff! I haven't seen or read yours and I would urge you to have a look at it and consider if this is the best of the information you personally know or not?

    - Look of Blog - This is a very opinionated sibjct and I think IF you are trying to project a professional image the website needs to look professional (so this massively also depends on what your ideal target market is), if you are trying to look like the guy next door who has made millions online then your website and everything to do with what you do needs to look and feel like that too.I personally think you look professional (your wearing a suit) your website looks like it hasn't been thought through as much as it could have. I think you hagve done amazingly to take the action you have by the way, so this is not a dig at you and how much effort you have put in, as you have obviously worked very hard at this which is fantastic! And well done for that! This again is a tweak in my opinion, its not the bee all or end all.

    - Free giveaway Image - Get thois redesigned and make it look more professional, people on fiverr.com will do you a much better design then what you have for $5 and its worth paying for it!

    - Size of Image - make the free giveaway image a lot bigger then it is so people are drawn to it and if you know how make the blog part of your website slightly thinner and the right hand column (where the optin is) slightly thicker - so it again stands our more.

    - Banner - again depends on the image you are trying to portray and I would consider a redesign or a more basic design, there is a bit too much going on and its difficult for my eyes to focus on anything in particular on the page, you waqnt people to focus on the free gift so they optin!

So with them tweaks you should get a higher optin rate, now lest talk about affiilaites, where are you sending their traffic to? If it is your blog then you are not using their traffic as affectively as possible. Affiliate traffic should be sent directly to a squeeze page there they can get something for free Imaybe the same as what is on your website and you can use the same heading and subtitle.

    After Opt-In
Once you have opted in using your blog, it keeps me on the blog page and then opens a new "Thank You Page" which is using the same blog template - again its a bit confusing for my eyes to focus on any particular part of the page. Make this into a landing page so they can't see anything else apart from the information you put on it (keep it opening into a new page if you wish - I would suggest split testing this before deciding which is the best to do.

Engagement - I would highly suggest putting a video on the "Thank You Page" explaining what happens next and in that same video (it can be a slide show with text on the powerpoint and you talking) - tell them about the upsell you have and why they should be taking action immediately to get this upsell and have a link to purchase it on that page. You need to sell to them while they are excited!

Also I think the free gift shouldn't be a series of emails, it should be something they can download immediately and read or listen to or watch immediately. This is where you need to learn to write fantatsic sales copy! And then convert this into a fantastic video! Either way whether text or video it needs to be done really well and this bit could take half a day to write, look in the copywriting section of this forum for more advicenon the structure of this.

Double Optin is good, prequlifies them even more AND you ma consider not using this as much (your on aweber I can see and you can switch this function off on aweber, I personally think it creates an unessecary step and if you have done the previous bits correctly you won';t need a double optin).

Free Gift - Deliver on the free gift immediately (maybe this gets emailed to them as an attachment and you make that clear in the video you do on the thank you page and then whle saying thank yopu upsell them)

COPY COPY COPY- You need to spend a LOT of time on this and you will see a MASSIVE increase in your conversion, you will make a LOT of money if you spend a good amount of time on this part as you have everything you need and you just need to tweak everything.

UPSELL 2 - Once they purchase upsell 1, then obviously upsell them or cross sell them again!

After ALL of this, the emails you send to the peopkle receieving them n my opionion (again not the only way of doing it) should be like you writing to a mate as this will bring the real "you" out in the emails, they will be athentic and you will sell a LOT more when you offer products.

Wow, I think I have said enough, let us know how you get on and if you need anymore help I will be happy to guide you, add me on skype divian.mistry

    Thanks
    Divian

Please note ALL of this is my opinion, it is NOT set in stone and everyone will have a different opinion, you may yourself disagree - whatever you do just model someone who you have have bought off and watch WHAT they do more than what they teach!

    I hope that helps!

There are basically 2 ways to make more money in your business the way I see it. First thing to ask yourself is does the product you recommend convert? Also, do you multiple back end offers that you market to your list after that initial offer...

Second, if your traffic is converting then you need to focus on getting more leads into your funnel being exposed to your message. An easy way to do this is set up a squeeze page specifically designed for lead capture and then send all your traffic to that page instead of your blog where you only have the opt in form to the right

5 months is too long. People with time management issues want (and need!) a quick fix!

Also from the looks of it, your last post was in mid 2012 so that's hardly reassuring for a buyer. A post within the last month and some sort of regular pattern (or take the dates off your posts) sends a message that you're still around.
