Where do you get host your sites cheap?

Hi Warriors

I thought I should ask about the hosting too.

I'm looking for a cheap shared hosting plan.

I've got a dozen or so sites with WordPress and other php/SQL goodies on there, one of which is getting big

Where do you get host your sites cheap?

Cheers,
Bud

Define cheap. Pretty much any hosting company offers shared hosting for $10-15. I would say that's cheap.

    Good question.

Right now I am paying 1&1 $7/month for
    25 SQL databases (1gb)
    Unlimited webspace
    Unlimited bandwidth
    Linux

The unlimited is webspace is a canard because I only have about 1gb of actual content. My databases however are inching up.

I would jump off a bridge before I ever used 1&1 again. I lost my debit card, canceled it, and added the new card to my account. Well their computer system wouldn't accept it or charge it, and they wouldn't take my PayPal. They wouldn't take my card information on live chat or over the phone. They sent me emails everyday about my card that I canceled being declined, even though I told them multiple times it was cancelled and I wanted to add the new card to my account but it wasn't being accepted. Eventually, they said they were going to send the debt (which was about $18) to a debt collector. I told them "thanks!!!" and finally cancelled the account after a debt collector called and took my payment over the phone. I hate 1&1.. And they don't offer cPanel.

I had hostgator for a while, but they're hosting is very, very, very, unfriendly for open cart stores. They're baby shared hosting package would be perfect for what your need. Their support is still good even though they were bought out recently. But $7 is probably about as cheap as you'll find a host.

I use a dedicated host through Arvixe and haven't had one issue yet. Great support.

My experience with 1&1 is a different set of problems altogether.

Nothing financial, but they have very poor tech. I have to supercustomize scripts to be able to use them. WordPress on their servers is a constant pain.

I don't think I'm ready for a dedicated host. Maybe when I put up my own Ruby site.

yeah Eleven2 is one of those under the radar hosters and is a global hoster which was important for me to have servers in other countries since I do business with many people outside the US

I would stay away from any of the common hosting providers such as GoDaddy, HostGator, Bluehost...

They seem to be going down hill.

I'd recommend a company called A Small Orange. Their speed is incredible in comparison and they have very reasonable prices.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I can provide a coupon code that gets you 15% off. I would post it here but it involves buying through my affiliate link, which is against forum rules and I don't like spamming.

P.S - The last paragraph is just for anyone is who interested in choosing them so they can save some money, I'm not trying to make a quick buck here..

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

      Joe,

ASmallOrange is the same as HostGator and BlueHost. All owned by EIG, all ran by the same team and the same datacenter.

These two seem reasonable and don't get many bad reviews:
        Web Hosting by Arvixe
        PacificHost

Hostgator, Hostmonster, Bluehost, Ipage, JustHost and FatCow are all heavily promoted hosts that are owned by EIG and are all hosted in the same datacenter owned by EIG and are quickly gaining a reputation for bad customer service and lousy performance.
See a complete list of EIG sites here:

Look for promotions, before anything else.. If you need it for buffer or low quality websites, you can find hosting as low as 1$/month or even lower. Depends on what you need it for..

My vote goes to Arvixe, Never had a problem with them. I am an affiliate but will recommend them without giving my aff link. by the way, I do host with them, I am a web developer and all my customer's sites are with them too.
you can get it as low as $4 a month if paid up front but you can go for a monthly $7 and see how it suits you, no contract just drop it when you don't want it any more, that is what I like about them.

Why do so many people always want to 'nickle and dime' their hosting?

Arguably it's most important past of your internet business (aside from your ISP) and if you're starting to develop a few site, then get a dedicated server.

If you stay with cheap shared hosting, you can look forward to trouble sooner of later.

        I've been through it all.

Bluehost did an offer on one of the coupon sites last week for a dollar a month hosting for a year. I snapped up a few of those for my site flips!

Keep looking at the big coupon sites or get on their mailing lists.

  • Hostgator can provide you hosting for only $0.01 . There is no end of cheap but remember to choose a good hosting provider who will keep your website up for the maximum time without any kind of server error.
