Q&A sites for traffic - only cons'es?

Hi, this is Max. Recently I happened to make my way through lots of content glorifying Q&A sites as traffic generators. I tried some of them. Yahoo Answers is the worst place I've ever tested for marketing. Quora doesn't even allow links to your site. On other platforms you get poor views to your replies. In a nutshell, Q&A sites are just miserable forum clones with limited functionality and no reward for repliers. Yes, they could make some sense for manual link building slavery but not for traffic. Forums are a lot better option. That's my opinion. What would you say? Any good experience?

Q&A sites used to work a long time ago but are now very outdated and ineffective.

Mostly because IMers wrecked it by doing the same things most do and that is just spamming links without providing any value whatsoever.

Personally I think Q&A sites are perfect, but depends on the niche and industry you're dealing with. As a general rule of thumb, any niche are industry that attracts spammers (i.e. payday loans, weight loss, etc) will provide a lower return on investment versus a niche that does not attract spammers. Forums can be spammed the same way as Q&A sites, the forums that are heavily moderated will provide better quality.

I personally practice content marketing strategies for my clients in the form of guest blogging. My minimum domain authority blog site is 60 and we get lots of traffic and referrals from the site.

    That's just my two cents.
