SOS Shiny Object Syndrome
Wow I can't believe the amount of products that are being pitched on a daily basis. Every time I open my email there's more than a few staring in your face with the next latest and greatest way to make a Billion. Whatever happened to marketers or so called gurus providing some helpful information or sharing some of the latest tips and tricks out there? Instead it seems like the days of actually helping people are dwindling and all you receive is a few lines that end up leading to "Hey buy this" I get that we all would like to find that magic bullet, but the word from the underground is that it's all a mirage. Or is it? Well by the way it looks from all of the pitching going on, the one magic bullet may just be the pitch itself and the next shiny object.
I'm sure we have all been there at one time or another and I certainly can attest to jumping around from product to product trying to catch that elusive magic bullet. I'm not sure why this industry is so different then a regular day to day job that usually requires you to work hard and stay focused in order to achieve your goals whatever that may be. But for some reason it can grab hold of you and keep shaking you until you reach for that next shiny object. If you are that person as well then you need to stop riding the train and get off to focus on the surroundings outside. If you never take the time to stop the ride then you'll just end up going in a giant circle and wonder how you ended up right back where you started.
It's time to focus on your core product or service whatever that may be. Whether it's the last product you have purchased or a concept or idea that you have had, just stop and focus on it. Don't purchase another product or service unless it will directly help what you are focused on. If you are like me and are focusing on video marketing, then purchasing the next how to info product for kindle e-book publishing may not be the best idea no matter how much you have always wanted to write a book. Ask yourself "Will it immediately impact what I am focused on?" If the answer is no or not right now then forget it and focus back on your core product or service. Now if there is a product offering some graphics, audio or video backgrounds, then that is something that could possibly be directly applicable to my core focus and would be something that might be worth purchasing.
The simple moral of the story is to jump off the roller coaster and become the ride owner instead of the rider.
Good Luck to everyone.
