I want to make money as an affiliate. Up until now I was only considering Clickbank. I really want to write about sports and there aren't many good offers on clickbank. I know with Amazon you sell better products but make a much smaller percentage. Have people made a solid income through Amazon? I'm afraid ill make 1/10th as much money with Amazon.

    in your case I would go with amazon. If you really want to make money with your passions don't worry about chasing the money. Blog about sports and have links out to some amazon products.

    The money will follow. Dont put yourself in a position where you are making money but are miserably bored because of it

    Amazon can give your book instant credibility.

    But why not do BOTH?

    No brainer.

    Amazon has thousands products you can promote. Anyone can find something to match their target audience on Amazon, but Amazon has very low commission at 4%.
    Clickbank has less products than Amazon but their commission can be as high as 75%.
    Both are great, you should join both of them and start looking for products your audience might be interested in.

    You don't just have to limit yourself to Amazon, but you should know that the reason you make less money promoting not only Amazon products but physical products in general is because they costs more to make, and the affiliate is one of the last parties to be paid in the process. To make up for it, you just have to do more volume as well as promote higher-priced products and cross promote stuff as well (i.e. rather than just promoting a video game, promote a console and related accessories that the person may also need.)

    Good luck,

    nba2kbeast, if you are writing about sports you should be testing every affiliate product or service available.

    Sometimes the commission paid is lower, but the conversion rate is so much higher. Test, test and test.

    You should also consider ads on your site instead of affiliate products. Here in Australia you earn many dollars per click on ads on sporting sites, because they are usually gambling ads. Also, with ad re-marketing you could be making money from a click on a credit card ad (for example) which you wouldn't have thought to test with an affiliate offer.

    Create a spreadsheet and list every potential affiliate product and the different ad providers. Create tracking links using something like prettylink for a Wordpress blog and test all the different offers. Then decide what works best...

    If you get a lot of repeat visitors to your blog, you may have an issue with banner blindness (people ignoring the banners/ads because they have seen them so many times).

    I suspect you're thinking that from looking only (or mostly) at the difference in commission percentages?

    It doesn't work out that way, usually, because of a few other factors which influence your income; for example ...

    (i) Amazon is universally known and recognized; all the traffic you send to an Amazon affiliate-link has already heard of the retailer, more or less trusts them, and the conversion rates tend to be far higher for that and other reasons;

    (ii) At Amazon, you often earn additional commissions on additional stuff that your customers happen to buy within 24 hours of following your link to the site (which you can't get at ClickBank);

    (iii) There's typically a bigger range of things to promote, from Amazon, in the first place.

    I do still think ClickBank has the edge, and is overall, probably, a better and easier place for most people to start, but I waited nearly 3 years after starting my ClickBank affiliate business before adding Amazon products to the mix I was promoting, and with hindsight, I wish I'd done that at an earlier stage.

    As others have mentioned there are tons of affiliate programs in the sports niche why just stick with one, Test a few on your site and see what converts.

    Setting up a Facebook fan page and an optin form/free e-book or newsletter on your site would be a good move as well.

    i think you should offer with cb and amazon.. Example: Sports - golfs - you can sell technique (cb) & tools (amazon).. then try another topic about sport such as basketball, volley or else

    Both are good but Clickbank is easier to start for newbies. You can get approved easily. I have made money with click bank and it is trust worthy.
