Should I build a list?

Hello everyone.

Two months ago I created a website of mine mainly related to the latest news and all the happenings of a certain football club. It is growing quite popular since then, with 500+ daily uniques a day being the standard.

My question is, how profitable do you think building a list on this site would be? I mean, considering it is a news website, where my readers are mainly interested in the latest news.

Thanks everyone

Is it a locally based Football club? If it is then you could advertise 'local' offers to them from companies in the area. They would love to reach a targeted list like this particularly pubs and the like. You could charge for advertising space.

Also bear in mind that you will use your list to drive people back to your site where hopefully you have AdSense adverts (or similar adverts on display) that they can click.

It's about one of the most popular Football clubs in the world with a huge worldwide following.

Not only build a list but you should have CPA offers, contextual advertising, amazon links to purchase apparel etc.... you name it you should be testing it.

Once you have a couple great months you can flip it or reinvest and expand on it.

You are in a good place.

I was searching for CPA offers in recent as that seemed lucrative, but couldn't find anyones that would work with the website :/ Any suggestions would be fantastic!

Thanks everyone for the replies .

More profitable than not building one. If there's a "football connection" in common among your visitors, it surely can't be too difficult to monetize accordingly?

That is very solid and true at the same time. With so many unique visitors, your job now is to start building a list and try to sell something that appeals a lot to your readers!

    Oh wait.

If it is an English football team Championship and below I THINK most clubs offer affiliate schemes on their merchandise and on the 'Player' subscriptions (the online radio channel that streams matches)

You should absolutely build a list... many experts agree and coach on the very subject. Most of them are in agreement that it is one of the most profitable ways to make money online.

The game really has not changed all that much...

      1. You first get people to sign up to your list through a squeeze page or blog
      2. You send them massive value with a touch of entertainment in each email
      3. Occasionally you promote products that will really help your subscribers.

The only difference I would do is in your first email tell them to mark your emails as important and show them how to move your email from the promotion tab.

Or you can have some copy in bold at the bottom of each email you send saying to mark your emails as important. That's it

No matter what your niche is, but if you build a good list it can be more profitable, you must monetize your site, build daily traffic, sell add spaces it can earn you good money.

You should build a list yes, but considering you niche it may not be that effective.
      Consider local advertisements instead.
      All the best.

I'd like to think that you meant this ironically or facetiously ... but I have a sneaky suspicion that you may actually have intended this comment seriously? If a list built from a niche site "about one of the most popular football clubs in the world with a huge worldwide following" can't be monetized effectively, then I don't hold out too much hope for the future of marketing!

          [sarcasm]

According to the various threads scattered across this forum, if you have even one subscriber with a gmail address, your business is doomed.

          [/sarcasm]

Simply building a list, all by itself, isn't the answer. You need to have a plan for that list, an objective you want it to help you reach.

That plan could be as simple as announcing new content to bring people back and increase the number of exposures in your ad inventory.

It could be as complex as building one or more sales funnels promoting anything from fantasy sports leagues and info to betting services to sports camps, etc.

Just have the plan in mind when you create the list and start communicating with the people who sign up. Then be consistent - deliver what you promised.

Yes, you should build a list! Then monetizing it by studying the trend and offering appropriate products. You could possibly attached an Amazon sports store...

I'd say you should "try" to build a list for just about anything you do

But how "hard" you should try is another story. Some niches aren't as evergreen as others. I'd focus hard on listbuilding in those evergreen niches

Don't think too long about this.

This kind of traffic coming in you need to start building a list
or doing something at least to monetize it.

Get some research done to see if any other web owners have
done anything similar and get some ideas from them.

I think you've done well here to get this far.

Get onto taking more action now!

    Before someone else does.

    All the best

My list is my bread winner, I know I can push a button and know that if I spend some time making a good email, it will

    1) get responses

    and

    2) Make sales

no. 2 is the most important but. When you know you can go to the computer and push a button and make sales you have won this race, IMHO.

Yes! There is not other way to have full time income in future. If you have list you control traffic otherwise you will always be spending money on traffic to sell affiliate products. Sell affiliate products through squeeze page.

Remember one thing. It's easy to get email rather to sell. 100 leads means you can sell again and again. One sale means over and out.

Having an email list helps you in many ways. You can sell your products to your list after showing to your subscribers that your products really are the best ones, what takes some time and more information to help them feel safe.

You can also send your subscribers to the new pages you create. When you have an email list you have a group of followers who will promote your work because they are your fans.

Its weird to see a thread title called "should I build a list?", when its hard to find a thread title that doesn't say, "You NEED to build a list".

In other words its quite obvious that building a list is a good move at this point in IM...

You should build a list in any nicge...
Email will last for a long time...
Just an example from social media VS email marketing
how many tweets you get per day? and how many emails you get?
I get a few thousands tweets per day and a few hundred emails per day...
So the it's more likely for me to open an email/then see your tweet or facebook status update.
      Just my opinion!
I hope this helps... Plus with an email list you can always get traffic wherever you want just send an email and it's done....

  • Just for the sake of keeping people coming back to your site, I'd suggest building a list. You can just send out emails whenever you have something new on the site you'd like to share with them.

Doing this will always give you more chances to make more money

As you can see, the answer is yes! Start building your list. NOW!

As someone else stated, "The Money is in your list." - I don't agree with that 100%.

The real statement should be, "The Money is in the RELATIONSHIP With your list." Remember - they are people with needs, feeling, and a wallet. Develop the relationship FIRST and then start to sell.
