Do you suffer from creativity issues?

I am wondering if people struggle because they struggle to keep creating things and remaining fresh?

There is tons of info about setting up sites, outsourcing, niche research etc, but is there a skills gap in IM around creativity?

My gut feeling is people ignore things like motivation, mindset and other "soft skills" to get to what they see as the money making "meat" and then suffer from paralysis because their creativity dries up?

  • my problem is that I have too many ideas and then do not focus on completing them although that is something that I am working on right now.. my ideal job would be to work in a think tank.. I could do that all day...

You need to set your goal, make a clear path how you're going to get there, what steps you will do to get there, then stick to it. Stick to it. You want to achieve your goal, not finishing or trying many different kinds of task. Goal plus plan is the key.

We have the same problem. I usually come up with all sorts of ideas in the middle of the night which keep me from sleeping. Occasionally I write some down, most of the time I don't. It takes awhile to learn how to just start working on a project no matter how you feel. I am working on that as well.

I am generally a pretty creative person. I pretty much have to be creative because I work as a writer. But still, there are times when I stare at my computer screen and can't think of a single thing to write about. What I do when I am faced with a creativity block is to simply change locations. Coffee shops work best for me. I can always get a lot of work done. Maybe it is the scent of those delicious energy beans...

Another thing you could try is to just take a break.

If you have a dog, take it for a walk around the block. I heard bright colors like green help improve creativity. Consider placing a small green plant on your desk when you work. Relax, walk around, get your blood flowing, and tackle the problem later.

At least, that is what I would do.

Plan ahead. I have a general interest site I write articles for, and before I ever wrote a word, I spent two whole days brainstorming interesting article titles. I have 35 titles or so ready to be worked on.

How many people have for example made the first step of a new project to do proper goalsetting, breaking down the goal into smaller step goals, then doing a SWOT analysis on each step goal, then transferring that all into a detailed plan of action.

    10% I reckon, if that?

Some cause-oriented hackers recently hacked one of my websites. So I researched what they're about and then donated a large sum of money to the entity they hate the most.

The next time they hack one of my websites I'm going to donate DOUBLE.

Creating a product/article is my favorite part of the I.M. process. I have no issues there.

My problem is that I have a 'light bulb moment' and rush out and start feverishly working on something, only to realize about two days in that the idea is stupid or somehow unworkable.

I have figured out why I do this, though.

Because I am desperate, and in dire straits, I am trying to come up with "the million dollar idea." I need money and I need lots of it and I need it now.

Therefore I need an original, ground breaking idea that will immediately go viral and solve all of my money problems at once.

I'm not looking at time-tested ideas. Rather, I'm trying to reinvent the wheel.

But coming up with new ideas and innovating IS HARD. Harder than I thought it would be.

I can write a poem and easily come up with a unique phrase. But when I am writing a poem, I am limited only by the bounds of the creative imagination.

But when I am trying to come up with a unique business idea, this ability to fully utilize the whole extent of the creative imagination is actually deleterious. The reason for this is because in business, being unique and aesthetically spectacular counts for nothing. Instead, it's all about meeting needs!

    The solution?

I'm thinking smaller. My last project I finished up in 48 hours of nonstop work. I didn't allow myself to second guess myself. I took on a small meal and quaffed it.

Creativity is more important than knowledge right?

I find that I have it in abundance.. Sometimes too much.

    :O

If there's one thing I lack.. It's structure. And I'm working on that. Significantly.

I think for most people creativity is a major problem though.

Which is why they never create anything.

And instead follow the "marketing elite" without thinking for themselves.
