$200? Do you think it's worth the investment?

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing a website, which is currently PR1. It's a website which is aimed at vegetarians, and it's currently ranked third for it's target keyword. It's currently being hosted on Squarespace which I would change to Wordpress as I feel it's easier to monetize on Wordpress in comparison to Squarespace, and a lot easier SEO wise. It's analytics are as followed:

It's currently getting on average 638 unique views per week, and it's got a facebook page with 600+ likes. I am just not entirely sure if it's worth $200? I defiantly think it being in the vegetarian niche that it's something that can be monetized on health related affiliates etc, but I am just not entirely sure... if I would get a ROI.

It kind of depends on how you would monetize it. You could have a site custom built for the same price, but the SEO wouldn't already be there. I haven't done any niche research, but speculating on the psychographics of the vegetarian niche, you could market health products, excercise programs, supplements, or even cookbooks. Weekly uniques in the 700s isn't bad, but third for it's primary keyword, I would expect higher numbers. How many regular visitors(people who visit on a regular basis) would also be important here. If the site keeps them coming back, it could easily be shifted into an authority site model which would allow plenty of opportunity for ROI.

All in all, $200 isn't a bad deal for a ready made site that already has a good spot in the SERPs. It's more a matter of do you have the money to spend. If it's your last $200, I would look for a different method, but if you can float that off of one or two paychecks without going without groceries, go for it. Even a simple lead-generation method of monetization for this site would probably offer you a break even point fairly quickly, so long as you don't just buy it and do nothing with it.

200 $ is not expansive if the stats are real, if you have some skills you can work to monetize this.

Agreed. $2000 isn't much if the site is getting the majority of traffic on autopilot, and it's cheap to buy Facebook fans in that niche. So you could easily invest another $100 and get a fan page with a load of fans you can keep sending back to the site. Plus there are a load of other ways to drive traffic in that niche without search traffic, so if it's a good site / has that stuff in place it's well worth it.

Looks good but might take a lot of work. Buy only if you're willing to do some serious SEO and content jobs on that one.

  • $200 for a well made site with some age isn't a bad deal. As long as you know what you're doing, you should be able to recoup that investment fairly quickly.

Certainly looks interesting but I would also want to know what the keywords are that visitors are using to generate the stats shown. Are the visitors looking to make a purchase or are they just looking for information? Is the site monetized at the moment? Is so, how much is it taking and how is the money being generated?

If you were to start from scratch I would suggest it would take more than $200 to get your own site to that position, if not in terms of software/outsourcing etc then certainly in terms of your time.

I would agree that $200 is not a lot of money for such a site and may be worth a punt if you can do a bit more research on it and then you are prepared to put in the resources to maintain and improve it.

Craveboyseo, you have seo in your username so do some seo research on the site. How many links does it have, and from who? How many pages of unique content does it have? How much time will it take for you to duplicate these results? Also, you can clearly see in the screenshot that over half of those visitors are bots which are junk traffic. Also, what analytics program are they using? Analytics could easily be artificial inflated, and many programs like awstats are notoriously inaccurate as they double count the same visitors. Google analytic sis much better as you can apply filters to sanitize your data, and this screenshot is clearly not GA. I'll personally be skeptical as there is no way I would sell a site for that cheap that supposedly brings in those numbers.

It's worth more than $200, makes me suspicious, make sure they don't just take your money and run. Seems way to cheap to be true.
