Newbie Here any suggestions?

Hi,

I'm just starting to get into internet marketing and am looking for a jumping off point. My friend at work is always talking about his fascination with IM and so I started some doing some of my own research and it seems very interesting. What would everyone reccomend I do to start? I'd prefer not spend a fortune but at the same time i understand the concept of spending money to make money. If I can spend $1 and make $1.25 I'm sure I could make a fortune pretty quickly. any suggestions?

Thanks,
Justin Lexubert

What are your interests, talents, likes, and dislikes?

Do you like to write? Do you like to speak?

What have you researched so far that has gotten your interest up?

There are tons of ways to make money online but without knowing some basic info about you there's no way to really help much.

You are certainly starting out with the correct attitude.

Many expect to spend $1 on growing their business and make
back $50. While that is certainly likely, spending $1 and making
back $2 or $1.50 is more common.

You don't see this math discussed that often on places like
this forum, but if you can spend $1 and make back just $1.25
as you suggest, you are certainly making progress... as long as
you don't spend too much time accomplishing this since you do
need to account for the opportunity cost.

Using the math about, practically every promotional method that
you will see discussed on this forum can be profitable, and then
you make minor changes to increase your ROI.

I'd suggest that you begin by choosing a niche. You have to
decide WHO you are going to serve. This could really be anything
but I would make it something that you have an interest in.

Once you identify a niche, they you look for a pressing
problem that the people in that niche/population has, and also
    for solutions (affiliate products).

At that point, you start building a list in that niche, and set
up a site (I'd suggest a simple WordPress blog initially).

Then it's just a matter of building relationships with your
subscribers and/or blog visitors, letting them know that you
understand their problems, and pointing out effective solutions
to them (affiliate products at first, and perhaps products that
    you develop later on).

    Welcome to the Warriors!

Don't be sucked in by all the hype.
Be prepared to fail before you succeed.
Understand that a very small percentage of IM'ers actually make a decent living online.
Making money online is not as simple as investing x and expecting a return.
"Pretty quickly" Unfortunately i can almost guarantee that you won't see any meaningful results "quickly".

    Good luck

Before investing in a program, do some careful consideration and research. Don't jump in without doing your research and having a pretty clear understanding of what you may be getting into. Many things can be learned on your own, but still try to find good teachers or mentors that will be able to encourage you and help you avoid some costly mistakes early on. Good ones are worth their weight in gold, but bad ones can take your money and run, essentially.

Anything like Affiliate Marketing, in which you get a small percentage when items sell. This means you are dependent on factors such as the affiliate changing the relationship with you, going out of business, or some politician passing a crappy law and you can no longer be an affiliate (I'm still bitter...). However, it is still pretty fun, I think. I have found that it is too dependent on too many factors to be considered a stable, reliable income (in and of itself).

Google Adsense and the like, require you to get a targeted visitors to your site and/or a high volume of visitors.

Email Lists or traffic referrals can be lucrative, especially if and when you can build a good list (meaning motivated, targeted people) and can direct them to the specified sites or products. YOU send the traffic and handle the emailing. Keep your hard-earned list private!

Providing a service can be and often is one of the most reliable method of earning steady income. You learn more as you go. People respect and trust your service more. You can charge more for your time, etc, etc. I think this is one of the most tried and true ways of consistently making money..

I highly recommend you to find some good coaching. You wouldn't go to school and let the students teach you will you? Most people that are selling things are learning just like you are. Find a coach, because in the real world you go to college to be taught by people who genuinely know what works and the same applies to internet marketing or any other type of marketing.

dont believe everyone who tells you he can show you how to do it

read alot on this and other forums

    watch videos

    start somewhere

    my suggestion:
    register a domain
    get a webhost
    upload wordpress (easy for beginners)
    add content
    add affiliate links
    get traffic on the site

now this is very summarizing, you find tons of free information on every step though..

if youre new too affiliate marketing definetly check out clickbank.com, thats a must

keep at it, dont get demotivated by the information FLOOD there is, just start somewhere, most stuff will get clear when your working on it

    You're starting with the ECONOMICS!

    I like it.

My best advice would be to take advantage of other peoples hard
work and promote their stuff as an affiliate.

Test different paid traffic sources to see which ones bring in the best
    conversions for you.

Like you said if you can spend $1 and get $1.25 back you're in business.

If you are going to be doing this as an affiliate though I would also suggest
you look at building an email list off of the back of those efforts and money
    spent on paid advertising.

Kill 2 birds with 1 stone right?

This way you can scale up your advertising budget and build a big juicy
    list at the same time.

Of course it may take time for you to pick a winner but it is well worth
your time and effort and patience.

All the best and good luck my friend.

the term 'Internet Marketing' is messed up. It means nothing.

You sell physical products, yours, or someone elses. You can sell content, yours or someone else's. Same for services.

You promote socially, through search, paid advertising or email marketing.

In the end, it's all the same. You have a message to get out to a target audience.

But with podcasts, YouTube Channels, self hosting, email marketing, auto responders, ARM sequences, PPC, adsense, blogging, Facebook, Google, Yelp, Apple, CMS, wordpress. etc.

    This is just distribution.

Then you have to consider content. Videos, emails, info graphics, books, ads, webinars.

In the end, I see TOO many people chase the end results first. The learn this strategy, that strategy, this platform, that one. This tool and that tool.

    FOLLOW YOUR GUT AND PASSION.

Figure out what you're passionate about and you can turn it into an Internet Marketing company.

I get passion from helping small business owners, so one company of mine is a local marketing agency.

You should start looking into affiliate marketing. I'd recommend that to all of those starting out. Research a niche, build a site around it and put offers on the site. It's a good idea to build a list at the same time, as you can make a lot of money from that. That's just one way, you should also look into CPA, Adsense etc...

My recommendation would be to start with lead generation and PPC. As an initial investment you need around £250-£300... I started with the same amount and it was enough to give me a kickstart.

I lost my job in 2009 and started searching on youtube how to earn online. Luckily I found a guy on youtube that taught me very well and is still my business partner and best friend today. Starting out you really need to have a mentor and some direction. Going at it yourself is possible but may take a little longer because there are so many ways to go at it in this industry. But very worth it. I haven't had a job since 2009 and am loving it! Don't give up, find a good mentor, be coachable, and stay committed. Good luck bro. ;-)

If you can afford to spend some money, I suggest you to get a website and load it with good content, build backlinks to it, and start selling other people's product, it is called affiliate marketing and it is very profitable if you know how to build a list and how to get traffic to your site.

  • It is always good on papers. But it is definitely possible.

Before it becomes reality, you need to:
    1. Learn
    2. Understand
    3. Implement
    4. Rinse and Repeat
    5. Be ready for new changes and go back to step 1

Best is to get a coach for this. It did help me a lot and
today i make a living online

Getting a job offline probably won't help him with making money online, unless it's in the business or marketing field. Don't buy any more guides, the forum has enough information for you. Definitely start your own affiliate site/blog up if you can.

you actually need a coaching to start making money with im, you caoch can be someone, or an ebook with comprehensive details inside.

if you're looking for some high quality ebooks that will guide you, i suggest you start search for free WSO reports on this forum.

And the first products i suggest you start promoting are WSO's because of their instant payment to your paypal account. the first few pennies you'll earn, you can then invest in your promotions

Pick a niche that you're passionate about and start there. Pick 1 or 2 traffic strategies and get good at them. Avoid the shiny objects syndrome - jumping from one next best thing to another, because it is expensive...

I also find that having a mentor is tremendously helpful.

Welcome to IM and I wish you success galore

As a newbie, I would suggest you first make a firm decision that you are going to make it in internet marketing. Just forget about shorts cuts and making quick cash. Shortcuts do not work long.
You third step would be to settle on on what business model you want to adopt that will work well for you. Recall, there is no alternate way. You have to buckle down and you have to learn more and fast while you work.
You can go to this link im4newbies.com and learn more or take guidance of some experts.
