So I had this site that wasn't performing that well for me and I have alot of projects going on so a mutual marketer friend and I were talking on the phone and he said "Dude just throw it on flippa and see what happens" ..

So I took his advice, I was a little skeptical because I tried selling a site there about a yr ago with no luck..

I made a pretty simple listing but gave any pertinent that would build up the value of my listing..

I started the auction at I think about $1 and put a Buy It Now option on there for $587..

When there was about 20 mins left from it ending someone clicked on buy it now and the money was in my paypal account!!

Pretty cool that now I know if something is not working out well for me, I need to move on because it's taking to much of my time or I have to many projects and need to let go on some to focus on bigger things, I can and make money while at it in FLippa!!

guess its also alittle luck involved

anyways congrats and keep it up
  • Great! I wouldn't expect this kind of thing to happen very much on this site, but I'm glad you were able to profit this much from it
  • Great yar . . . i will also try

Seems to be hit and miss with flippa in our experience.Sometime we have extra micro niche sites that go for a couple hundred (with SEO ranks) and others we have some high quality investment that barely makes it to a $100.

The worse thing is perhaps how the fees really add up:
    - If you want to really sell anything significant you generally need the front page listing feature at the start or end to get final ending bits and more watchers ($49)
    - Initial listing fee ($27)
    - Then there are the highlights and bold which if you plan on using their front page
  • Waiting for a thread:
"I sold a site on flippa with PayPal, buyer filed a chargeback"
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • congrats!
  • Sweet! Congratulations on the sale. I've never used Flippa before.
  • Nice to hear about the sale,

but could you explain what you meant by "I made a pretty simple listing but gave any pertinent that would build up the value of my listing.."

    Thanks
  • Well done, I recently just sold my first website for $1,750
    • [ 2 ] Thanks

    • I just sold my website for $5000

OP would you please show your flippa listing? So we may take a look at your website's strategy..

  • congrats, it doesnt mean you get only 5 dollars that you cant make more. Fiverr is really a good place to start making money
    • [1] reply
    • Yea on my first listing I didn't make anything on it so I see where it can be hit or miss.. As long as you have enough home runs though it would be worth it

I focused on the value of the site and its potential for the ideal candidate who can give it the time it deserves, where as I was barely paying attention to it cuz I'm pretty busy doing other stuff like hanging out with my kids and building my business late at night..

      Awesome!!

Yes sir, alot of people complain about not making money on fiverr or what can they do to make their initial money online "Pop their cherry" and fiverr is a great place to get your start..
  • I've always wanted to sell some of my sites on Flippa, but have always been dubious, as they don't make any money (although they have potential). All the sites with no traffic or revenue that I see sell for nothing.

    • Hi Matthew! For sites with no traffic or revenue, and which will most likely sell for under $200, we have a discounted listing type ($9 instead of $29). Just select "a new website" when you create your listing.

  • Congratulations to you I personally see it as a good way to get some capital gains but I will not treat this as a long term business model as the cash flow coming in might not be consistent and stable. But it is definitely a good idea to sell a few websites per month and get some money to pay off the bills or invest back to the main internet business.

Congrats! I didn't have success with Flippa. I hope I will get to sell one of my sites there. Currently I'm working on getting more traffic to one particular site.
  • Oh congrats. So even there are some genuine sellers on such sites... Else most of them are filled with crap.
  • I think the website get lot of visitors everyday ?
  • Good news. There is definitely still good money in flipping!
  • Congratulations! I've had good experiences with Flippa myself, well worth trying if you've got a website that you no longer have time for.
  • Thats awesome mate!! Really, well done

  • How many hours have you spent on the website so far? $500+ doesn't sounds like a good deal.
    • [1] reply
    • If the domain name did not have any value and the site did not get any organic traffic then that's a great deal - the number of hours don't count in this case.....!
  • You have been very lucky. I know some people who have listed their sites at flippa for a very long time but yet struggling to get a buyer. BTW, congratulation and I hope this will work as a inspiration for you.
  • Congrats. Unexpected money always feels good.
  • Congratz on your sale bro.

Flippa can be really profitable if you know what you are doing. But lately the members there stopped looking for turnkey sites and now they look for established sites with revenue and traffic.

If you don't have that it will be hard to sell a site there.
  • Congrats Gengis!

I bet that one felt great.

  • Wow Flippa increased their $19 listing fee? Of course they always seem to be increasing their prices everywhere. This probably has something to do with their site having too many crappy listings that no body wants to buy.

Good job buddy I have sold a few sites on Flippa too. Not too many other places you are going to get that kind of exposure.
  • I get a perception of Flippa being something like the wild west. It can work (for both buyer and seller) but the cliche "buyer beware" (or perhaps in some cases, "seller beware") applies.

In one case I know about, someone purchased a purportedly AdSense-profitable site for several hundred dollars. The vendor arranged to put the purchaser's (new) AdSense code on the site and his account was disabled within days, on one level, fortunately, since the disabling occurred within the escrow period, so he was able to get a full refund of the selling price. Then the disappointed purchaser noticed the site had reappeared, again with apparently active AdSense code.

When the failed purchaser posted the relevant site on the AdSense help forum, several of us quickly concluded the site was absolutely not suitable for AdSense, but the poor purchaser, hoping for the steady income based on the Flippa purchaser's claims, had fallen for the bait. Of course, while not out of pocket, he won't easily get another AdSense account -- and I can imagine the pain if his new (and newly disabled) AdSense account survived the Flippa escrow period.

    Caveat Emptor
  • Great and Congrats on your success on flippa.

What type of site do you sell on flippa?
  • well thats good

I have been trying to BUY some sites on flippa and have not been successfull
It seems that even sites with no bids start getting lot of bids once I bid on them

I bid on a site which had only few hours to go and 2 bidders and suddenly some guy bids it up to 1000

am still looking and hoping to get some decent site with atleast 100$ income
  • Congratulations and good luck.

  • That's great - it's something I've been thinking about doing up haven't got round to it yet!
  • Well done I've been thinking about putting some of my sites on flippa. I have a site making some Adsense income about $30 a month and it gets 50-100 hits a day in the solar energy niche.
  • Good for you. I've had a couple good sales so far, but no Buy It Nows yet.
  • You can't just allow a valuable domain name go and not bother about it, are you kidding or a millionaire? This is supposed to be a business and not a lottery!
  • Congrats, you are really lucky you made $587! If you are investing in Flippa you truly need to comprehend the quality of a site so that as a merchant, you can procure the most astounding cost conceivable and then again as a purchaser, you have to have the ability to distinguish the numerous undervalued deal chances on offer each day on Flippa.
I think ebay would be trused site to deal with. As a purchaser you realize what something is worth and you log on and begin the offering process with the point of winning the bartering at a value you know is set to be less than retail, or in the event that its a collectible thing, a value that you know is reasonable.
  • Congratulations on your success with Flippa. Keep it up! Just remember, don't stop till you reach something even bigger than what you have earned right now. Take action!
