Bar none I would have started off building my list from the get go. As it is my most valuable asset in my business and allows me to work full time from home.

Yea I agree with this one for sure. I was 6 months into my business before I realized that a list was important. Missed out on, potentially, alot of people

Better parenting. Ignore everyone around me who said it can't be done. Share nothing with nobody who didn't get it. List building. Ask for the order. Be less analytical about it.

    I would do 3 things.

    1) BUILD A BIG BLOODY LIST

    2) BUILD A BIG BLOODY LIST

    3) BUILD A BIG BLOODY LIST

Can you guess what 4 might be. Yes, its the best asset any business can have. A list of buyers is even better too. Try that, and see what happens, It changed my life when I learnt to do it right.

If I had to start over right now I would have no courage to begin again, especially because the situation existent online today is very difficult for beginners. In the past everything was much easier than today.

Anyhow, answering your question, if I had to begin again now I would focus on finding ways to always drive traffic to my websites without depending on Google.

Write up as detailed of a business plan as I could.

If you go to youtube, you can find all kinds of detailed videos on what kinds of things to consider with a personalized business plan.

Without the plan, you are just randomly building a list, randomly picking niches, randomly going where ever.

Plans are "fluid' meaning you can adjust them down the road based on how things go.

Without a plan, you will essentially keep hopping from one opportunity to the next.

Set goals, make plans on how to get there, and stick to them.

  • 1. Invest in training from others that are succeeding or get a mentor instead of learning everything on your own.

    2. Build a responsive list not just list like everyone is arguing. You want a list of people that are dying to read your stuff or hear from you. There is a difference!

    3. Diversify your traffic. If too much of your traffic is coming from one place that you don't control i.e. Google, then fix that immediately!

Pick a market that is both viable and that you have enough interest in to serve for the long term. Don't chase fads.

Viable: Has multiple related groups of people with similar wants (aka "niches" and "subniches"), groups the are known to spend money on those wants, that you can reach effectively, and the want will be around for the long haul.

    interesting question

if i was starting out i would do these things before doing anything else

    1. create a product
    2. put product on clickbank, digiresults etc so others can send me traffic
    3. create a squeeze page and give away a bit of the paid product as gift
    4. create and set up a blog to brand myself and to build my list
    5. buy some solo ads and use some fb ads to build my list

i could writ another 50 things but this would be what i did first

Develop the mindset and discipline it takes to run your own business! I suppose I would want to know how I'm going to send people to my business. Anotherwards how to get traffic and convert that traffic!

Making money online in my experience all comes down to traffic and conversions.

I would have jumped on mailchimp and built a list with my first website (in a niche, not in IM) instead of mistakenly thinking I needed to pay aWeber an arm and a leg (missed out on many moons of list building due to that)

I also would have skipped trying to crack the IM egg entirely focused right away on providing services (lack of confidence in my skills held be back) while building up in more niches vs trying to stand out in a crowd of a billion (figuratively speaking)

Why would I want to start over?

IF for some reason I had to start over like I was dropped off on a deserted island with only a NEW laptop for company...I would:

    Head straight to the WARRIORFORUM!

No one can take all the knowledge I have gained from the years I have been on this forum. It would not take me long to re-build my business.

I would continue to attend quality webinars

I would continue to provide valuable services at affordable prices

I would continue to strive to improve my offerings, my marketing and my networking

and I would find a way to get off that island quick because my business and my own person sanity requires social interaction with others.

I'd start by ridding of the assumption that one should; "Take refunds on the chin and roll on.." and actually dig deep to work with my customers, to find out what their problems are taking them into success whilst improving upon my products.

Communication and relations are key. "Passive" is a pipe dream.

  • So many things.

I wish I had found something I was interested in from the start, because then I would have been much more likely to stick with just one thing.

I wish I had then built a list. Part of why I didn't was because I thought list building was about always providing content and trying to sell your list on a bunch of products. That's not how it has to be. Building a list can be as simple as letting people know you have a new update to your site, or a new blog post.

I wish I had known alot more about the great ways to get traffic to an offer.

Nothing original or clever from me, at all: I'm happy to copy what works and ignore what doesn't work. So "build a list" will do nicely for me, because - for good and valid and reliable and understandable reasons - that's where the money is.

I would have to say that I would start with my list because even if every single product was gone, and every single web site was gone, if I still had my list, then I could easily start over again.

Remember, the list is the lifeblood of your entire business and any smart online entrepreneur knows that without question.
