When should you leave a market and move on to another?

So that's my question. I have an NFL tailored website that I created in June. I applied for adsense but I got denied. So I moved on and started to promote sports memorabilia thru shareasale. The bulk of my traffic comes from Google Plus. I am starting realize that the sports market is not a bunch of desperate buyers like other niches are. So should I stick with or truck it and move on? Don't tell me to provide value because I do all of that stuff. Provide good content with this market ain't that hard for me to do.

If you are providing value, I recommend creating a subscriber list so people have to ability to get info about the sites updates mixed with promotions, I recommend a 1/5 ratio so they are looking forward to your quality material.

  • Have you done your competitive research? Meaning are there other websites in your niche that are successfully doing what you want? If there are, then sign up for their list and site and discover what they're doing that you may be missing.

If there aren't any major players in your niche, it may mean there isn't money to be made.

I've recently gone through a similar thing where I thought I had found a buyers niche but after testing it, I could see I may have been wrong or approaching it incorrectly. So I moved on decided to cut my losses early and focus on a niche that I know there are always buyers. I've seen faster results since making that switch.

So it's working for me so far. If you have another niche that you think may be better suited then it may be worth making the change. Just don't make it a habit of bouncing around every time you hit a road block. Hope this helps.

I'd at least hold onto it through the football season. If you could get a decent price for it, then consider selling it.

There's a saying I go by "If the horse is dead, dismount" Sometimes it's best to let it go, don't waste anymore time and move on to another niche like you said. One that's more lucrative.

Most people who follow NFL are either sat on the couch or down the pub. It's not like that with all sports though. Golfers actually participate in their sport. They play the game and therefore buy all the necessary equipment from clothes to clubs, not to mention they are also heavily invested in learning how to play the game better.

If you are really struggling in the niche, then it might be time to start researching and looking at other niches. Try to see it through though and think of other methods to make money from the niche. If nothing works, try to sell the website and use the funds from that to start a new one up in a more profitable niche.

You should have never applied to adsense without knowing you had everything tight as a drum so if you did not know someone else may have been able to guide you.

With sports you should be tapping into the passion that fans have for their teams...it can be just as potent as a desperate buyer.
