Do you think its a good idea to create a free app to drive traffic to your website or product or is it better to try to use the app to create an additional income.

Im asking in relation to the self help field.

Also can you get an app built that is not too expensive??

    I assume you are talking about a mobile app for Android and iOS? If so, yes you could do that but the app would have to be good as well. There are some fee's for developing for iOS that you will have to bear in mind and the app has to be manually checked. You could be looking at around $150+ for a decent app built.

    You need to test the two options.

    I had the same problem with my App (different niche than yours) - I found that the best option for me has been to charge 1 buck a piece.

    Its always a good thing, as long it doesnt take to much time or money.

    Just test it once and you will know for your life if this works or not.
