Have you looked into Tumblr? they have a very large community of bloggers there that love to interact with others in there following list, tumblr is a blogging network and a social media site mixed into one. I have been a tumblr user now for 3 year and it has truly payed off. As long as you make good quality blogs and share great content on the blog there will be a ton of people clamoring to view your content. the great thing about tumblr is when you make a post to your blog, the post goes into a activity stream for the tags you used on the post that all the tumblr users throughout the whole network can view if there are searching for the tags you used, this is great for exposure to your blog.

There is also the tumblr linking phenomenon, that will gain you tones of backlinks and PR for your site, this happens when you create a great post and lots of people like it so they reblog the post to there site, and because you can set a click through link on the post you will gain a backlink, more followers and traffic.

I am actually looking at a community which has lot of passionate bloggers and not necessarily internet marketers. @giganut, your suggestion of Tumblr may seem a good one but I don't know if people will respond or encourage chatting and Private messaging one another.
