Getting traffic to your first optin page

What is the first thing you would do if you only had an optin page but no list?

How would you go about getting that first bit of traffic and those first people on your new list?

I'm looking for a way to start to see if the niche I'm planning to enter is responsive and willing to shell out some cash. To see if there is a pie I can take a piece of

    I'd do a few things:

    1) I'd buy traffic on traffic exchanges, if the offer matches the crowd
    2) I'd add my squeeze page to a facebook fan page and start advertising for likes
    3) I'd create a blog and start blogging daily

    The traffic exchanges won't convert at a high rate, but the traffic is super cheap and you will get some sign ups if the offer matches well. Facebook will help you build a small community around the offer and keep in touch with people. The blog will give you a long-term, sustainable traffic source and some good quick traffic if good SEO is used.

    Where is your target niche hanging out? Are they on forums, facebook, twitter, etc? Because that's where you need to be. I would research where you can find your niche hanging out first before building anything. Then advertise there. Solo ads may be an option as well depending on your niche.

      Yes, I agree completely. The forums associated with your niche will also give you GREAT ideas for blog posts and future products to address the needs of the niche.

      This is a great idea, but be careful and make sure you understand how to use AdWords before you start advertising. If you're not familiar with it, you could lose a lot of money without anything to show for it.

        Ok, so here is what I'm going to do:

        1. I'm going to make a nice banner to advertise on niche websites using Adwords. I successfully passed my Adwords exam so this is a great opportunity to put the knowledge to work.

        2. I'm going to add the optin page to Facebook and drive likes. Any pointers on how to do this?

        3. Find out 2-3 niche forums and start interacting on them for 5-10 minutes each on a daily basis to get to know my customer avatar.

          I would focus on one thing at a time either Adwords or Facebook. Pick one or the other and then add on the other at a later time. If you are going to do banner advertising make sure that your banners explain as much as possible IMO so that the ones that click on your ad and go to your page know what to expect. This well help keep your cost lower and focus more on targeted users.

          I like your plan. It has diversity. However, I would urge you to create a blog as soon as you get a chance. Even if you just hire someone to write for your blog, this will sustain your business for the long term. More important than most realize at first.

    I am in the same situation, currently doing some trials with some paid trafficking. I think Facebook PPC campaign or any type of CPC campaign is a great way to get more leads signing up. As you may already know, the traffic should be sent directly to the opt in page, and not a landing page, that way if they aren't ready to buy, you can continue following up through an autoresponder.

    I would start with seeking out some good solo ad sellers and buying solo's. By far one of the fastest ways to grow a list. Then I would create a separate list in my auto-responder so I could join mini-events and co-host events. Leads are usually shared in these so conversions are harder but you can get double to sometimes quadrupole the amounts of subscribers then buying a single solo ad.

    Once your list is big enough and you can start getting clicks I would move into doing the occasional swap to save yourself some money. You don't want to swap to much because you'll hurt your list but if you do it occasionally its like 'free advertising' to grow your list.

    -Friend All the big thinkers and big names in your niche.
    -search for your niche topics on Facebook and friend people in your niche.
    -post relevant content on your niche to your wall 30% about your site but don't hard sell

    Create a Twitter Account
    -follow 200 people per day in your niche.
    -post relevant content 30% about your site don't hard sell

    This will bring free traffic to your site right away

    That depends on your offer, the product, etc...
    Some places that I used at the beginning were safe list, craigslist, blogging, youtube, backpage, and solo ads. I'm pretty sure that's all I did when I started, today I mainly only use solo ads.

    Paid traffic is the fastest way to generate traffic to your opt-in page for testing purposes. You don't need to spend 100s, well under $20 should be more than enough to assess how responsive your niche (or your page) is.

    Yes..As everyone says it so...Paid Traffic is Better Traffic for Testing...and the results will come fast so as to check out the niche and conversions...
    Buying Solo Ads is so far been used by many but still it is effective if you buy from the Good Solo Ad Vendor...
    Also Creating a Blog is the foremost thing anyone should do for traffic since it is a long run process and builds trust and authority in front of our audience...
    Creating a Face book Page has been trending nowadays...as everyone using them for getting their feet wet ...and everyone is hanging out in the facebook for longtime so it is also a good option as well...
    Pinterest is also been empowering its existence nowadays..so depends upon your niche it is also useful for traffic.
    Inspite of everything... Do not under-estimate the power of SEO...Organic Traffic also should be taken into consideration...Blog commenting and`forum participation is important so as to get the traffic in the long run...

    I would definitely buy a couple of solo ads. They are a quick and effective way of building your list but be careful with who you buy from. As with anything else, there are all kinds of solo ad vendors out there. A good place to find vendors from is Safe Swaps. They have a great feedback system so you can see what others have said about the vendor.

    In general you need to be where your target market is. Find blogs that are relevant to your niche, comment on posts with a link back to your site and hang out on forums relevant to your niche. I've found the traffic that comes from these methods is generally highly targeted.

    1. I would join around 3 of the top forums in my niche and start asking questions, and providing value where I can on a daily basis.

    2. Create a fan page and build up my audience. From there I would form a relationship with them -- and direct them to my squeeze page.

    3. Do JV giveaways

    4. Buy Solo ads to see how well my squeeze page, messages, and products are converting.

      The only problem with this plan, if you follow 200 people per day on Twitter, you will see your account shut down in a hurry. Same with Facebook if you do it too fast. This is good, but you won't see fast results. However, it will help you in the long run, just be careful about following/friending too many people too fast.

      Yes, it is, but you need a long-term plan, too. Even savvy investor use both a short-term and a long-term plan. Adding a blog to your paid traffic plan will give you both and allow you to get traffic now and consistent traffic later.

    Using facebook for driving traffic has become a really popular method. You spend a few money and then get big turnaround from it. For some niche, it works really better than adwords.

    Ok, so my Facebook page is set up, including the iframe tab with my optin page. Just need to post a few things to the timeline so it won't look empty when I start running ads.

    Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing: solo ads is where you send an exclusive email to someone else's list? Isn't it better to do this when you already have a product that you can sell? Or an email sequence of at least around 5 autoresponder messages? If not, please explain.

    The First thing I'd do is start buying Solo Ads!
    It gives you instant opt-ins and even sales if your squeeze page and offer are good enough!
    Later I'd focus on all of the other things that were mentioned above - blog, facebook etc

    Free: I'd use social media - FB fan page, groups, Twitter, LinkedIN, Pinterest.
    Paid: FB PPC and solo ads - but be careful who you buy solos from. You might want to ask for a buyers list and specify GEO regions you want traffic from.

    Buy some clicks in your niche, buy some solo ads, go to facebook groups that similar in your niche and give value to all members to gain trust and popularity. then opt in will be easy to come in.

    Hi,

    Using paid traffic sources allows you to quickly measure.

    By measure I mean see how well your opt in page is converting.

    With FREE traffic methods this can be a very slow process.

    Free traffic has it's place but using paid traffic gives you an instant
    indication of what works and of course what needs to be worked on.

    And of course...

    ...You can split test any part of your funnels pages like your opt in pages,
    sales pages etc etc.

    You can allow your results to give you the WINNING formula almost
    on a silver platter.

    It takes some work but definitely worth while.

    It's pretty simple. If your optin page is targeted on your niche, you might first go to some relevant sources that talks about your niche. It can be either niche forums, social media (e.g., fan pages, groups, etc.), niche blogs (commenting or guest posting), article and press release directories, Web 2.0 properties and countless others. In this way, you might be getting some potential subscribers on your list that are having the same interest as your niche.

    There are a lot of variables to consider: How is the traffic obtained, how nice does the opt-in page look, what kind of target market, etc. I don't think there really is an answer to that question, it really "all depends".

    You might find for example one version of your opt in page converts 1% of visitors, whereas a different version converts 3%. The results you get could falsely tell you that there is no interest when in fact there is.

    if you dont wanna spend money, take some time to scour forums and stuff like everyone is saying. honestly when i started out.. a majority of my traffic came from me sitting for hours and hours answering yahoo answers! questions. take your time

    I mostly prefer article marketing, PPC and Solo ads. You can write niche articles to promote your landing page and later submitting them to article directories linking back to your landing page. PPC is best way to promote your landing page instantly in small span of time and at the same time can calculate conversion metrics. Sending solo ads to ezines is an exceptionally effective approach to advertise your landing page. You can search on Google for ezine or solo ads and opt for one that fits your plan.

    Many of you recommend solo ads. I'm willing to try and I have looked around for some solo ad providers, but many of them seem to shady for me to jump in.

    The most effective way to start from scratch in my experience, would be to find someone in your niche with a list and approach them about buying a solo ad.
    This works better than buying from someone who advertises solo ad sales, because their list would probably be more responsive, as people who sell their list daily will have a less active/willing list (generally speaking, of course)

    You should do some research on email marketing before spending any money.
    You may find nobody is opening your mails beyond the 1st or 2nd mail and you end up paying to keep them in your autoresponder subscriber list.
