What is the best way to start my own blog?

The link in your sig shows you have a WordPress site so you already have the software / server / etc. You'll need to setup a sub site to get a blog going if you want to leave your OptimizePress page alone, but you have all you need, just need to press some buttons.

The most important thing with starting a blog is probably not the how but the why and the what, because you need to have these clear if you are going to invest time in updating your blog regularly.

The fact you said "wants one now" as opposed to "needs one now" suggests you're doing it because you're passionate about the idea, and already understand the why so don't need to be sold on how beneficial it will be for your SEO, your perceived authority, demonstrating your expertise, helping to build your own tribe and have more engaged & responsive customers.

The 'what' is often the hardest part.. You'll need to find your own natural voice and to write about subjects you are interested in. People read things on-line because they can learn something from them, because it entertains them

If you struggle for ideas for content then you can often use current news & events as a beginning discussion point that can then relate to a deeper message. Remember though that if something is topical then in the future the relevance may be lost on readers.

And on to the how. If you have Optimize Press then maybe you already have access to a WordPress installation unless it was someone else who set up your squeeze page for your traffic generation course. Optimize Press original version was not so great for pure blogging type layouts, so it may be worth doing as nmcc suggested, you can create a new folder under your main domain i.e. www.IncomeEarnerWannabe.com/blog and in this folder install a fresh WordPress installation. If you are on a C-Panel host then this should be straight forward & will be covered by on-line help or just google for it to give an instructional video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QihvpQYOJ04

I'd choose a responsive theme (so you don't need to worry about how it looks on smaller screen devices). There are simply thousands of free themes to choose from so just google away. The free theme I've been using lately is DW Minion see; DW Minion ~ Minimal Responsive WordPress Theme For Blog ~ DesignWall

Again to find out how to install a new theme to WordPress then google for it as there are some great explanation videos on the subject.

With regard to content then good blog posts are like any sales letter in that they need to have a great title that hooks the reader, then your post should keep them engaged through to the end. Once you have a loyal following you may be able to relax a little on always having controversial or engaging titles but they always help, and remember that all your natural search engine traffic will be finding you through those titles & meta descriptions so you need to make them interesting to keep increasing your traffic. Some people even start with the title first, to give an angle to start writing. A good hook in a tile may ask a question that you don't answer straight away (an open loop) but you come back to at the end of the post to answer (the pay back). Sometimes you can keep people waiting for your next blog post by making it two parts, and giving them another open loop at the end of the first post that will hopefully have them waiting for the next to satisfy their curiosity.

If you don't want to put money then just go to blogger account of Google , put link of that on your website Menu as blog - total free option.

but why you r obsessed with blog , I don't think blog is very beneficial for online business or something , when you have whole website .

I disagree with you. Blog can be a very good option for driving traffic to a website. Blog post gets ranking for long tails keywords pretty quickly (If the content quality is good). Which is beneficial for a website.

For aggressive growth post 3-5 times per day
For average growth post daily
For below average growth post 3-5 times per week

It's a little difficult to believe that you don't know how to set up a blog considering 1. your website is wordpress based and 2. the title of your site is "Learn how to generate an abundance of traffic ...or free." Whomp whomp.

In the rare chance that you really don't know wordpress, you should be able to set up a new page to be your "blog" page.

Post maybe about 3-5 times a week to get your blog started, then post maybe once a week.

There are plenty of good videos on youtube on how to start a blog and putting everything together step by step.

For everyone saying she already has a wordpress site, maybe she paid someone to do it for her.. Hell just about 1 1/2 yrs ago I still knew nothing about a blog and someone at elance put one together for me for $25 so it's not like you have to either know how or spend a ton to make it happen with an outsourcing site.

Like @jaypoole and @Gengis said, it's not very difficult to create your own or have someone on Elance or Odesk do it.

I would highly recommend having it installed in a folder (/blog) or what I personally prefer, a subdomain (blog.yourwebsite.co.) This will allow you to have an entire new design and layout for your blog that is different from your main site.

I did that with Flight Drummers Magazine (my drumming company) and Flight Media Blog (my media company.) Within 3 months, I was driving 3,000+ monthly visitors to Flight Drummers Magazine through content marketing (blogging) consistently.

Although single blog template pages are typically included in themes, having an entire subdomain/folder with a blog allows you to have an entirely different design (that's usually more attractive, allow you to have more categorization, and still remain effective.

Examples: Flight Media Blog looks completely different from Flight Media. (It has a better layout, is optimized to gain leads, and I run ads directly back to my main site!)

Maybe someone built her the original website and didn't tell her it was a WordPress site and how that would relate to a blog...

Anyway, OP got some good advice here. I agree with figuring out the what and why and for whom, and then focusing on actually blogging.

Then getting traffic to the blog, etc.

Quality content in combination with regular posting will attract visitors and sharing.

with my wordpress site, i simply create another page, title it BLOG (just like HOME, ABOUT US, etc.) and post daily. i'm not sure if this is a 'real blog' but they get indexed and i get traffic. that's one of the goals, right?

why? i had a wordpress site for quite some time before i relized i could just do what i explained a couple of lines up.

A simple google search reveals that she has multiple wordpress installs, including at least 1 (very lonely) blog.

Now if you want to argue about her not knowing how to blog, that's different. But the lines "I saw something about software....do I need that?" and "The best free ways would be awsome" are red flags to me.

Thanks for all of the advice yall.

Pew Pew is right, I do have a "blog page" I created with Optimize Press when I was setting up my website. However that is as far as I got...Im not even totally sure how to even post on it.

I heard from a couple places that OP wasnt the best way to run a blog which got me curious so I started MORE research. There were so many different places and ways to run a blog that my head was just spinning.

I have done more reading and researching since I started my business than I did the 10 years before. (Im not much of a reader) (or I wasnt anyway). I have soo much stuff about traffic and content and articles and how to use forums etc running thru my head that sometimes I just cant think anymore.

I had the brilliant idea at like 3 am that I could save myself a buttload of research time if I posted a question here where there are SO many people that have already gone thru it and that are far wiser than I.

I got lazy and I am sorry...I swear I wasnt trying to pull anything or hide the fact I have a blog "PAGE" . I just wanted to know if there were better ways to do it . I was shocked when I saw that so many of you said to use word press.

Is there a difference in a "word press" blog and an "optimized press" blog?? I know that OP is basically a "theme" in word press but thats about all I know

I went to wordpress.com and tried to set up a free blog because I already have an account with word press from when I made my site but it wouldnt let me log in with the un & pw I have . So then I really started to think that my OP blog page wasnt what everyone else is using and I kinda paniced.

Like I said, I am guilty of being lazy and I am certainly suffering from information OVERLOAD but please put your red flags away....I am not pulling anything.

For the record......my plan worked....I got a LOT of good advice from my post and my head didnt expolde!! Isnt that what a forum is all about???

Thanks to all of you that gave me great advice (without a witch hunt), I now know how I am gonna proceed and what I can do to create a great blog!

Blogging can be fun or it can be rather a pain in the neck. The fact you want a blog is that you now consider you have something to say and a lot to say on a specific topic.
There are a number of things you can do. You can add a WP blog site to your current website and host it on its own domain.

Step 1. Google- How to start a blog….
Step 2…. Skip the bs…. then go get a domain and 1 click install it
step 3. Google top 10 plug ins for wordpress.
step 4. Download them and upload….
Step 5. Write daily for 1 to 2 years on particular topic and get ranked and gain traffic.

easiest way is probably just to star one through blogger. Google's platform. which using Google's platform is never a bad thing. then start writing quality content directed toward whatever niche you are trying to get in. I would first worry about getting good solid content as opposed to just optimizing each post around a certain kw. Social shares of quality content are better anyway

I think that the first step is figuring out the reason for starting a blog. I mean...what's your purpose? Do you want it for your personal enjoyment or for recognition? If you go with the first one, then the blog in itself shouldn't be a problem since not very many people will be following your posts. But if you want to receive some kind of recognition or even turning it into some kind of online business you should pay attention to what people are interested in, for example interesting facts, funny stuff or worldwide news. It depends on what you're into. All in all, I don't think that starting your own blog would be very difficult.

Definitely still relevant and a good time to be digging in.

Our blog has delivered more than 50% of our traffic and sales across our 4 online businesses over the last few years - still the case today as much as it ever was.

My advice from running blogs for more than 5-years and posting 10's of thousands of posts...

1. Know who your market is and what interests them...your blog is nothing if you are not relevant to your market.

2. Know the keyword phrases that represent the interest described in #1. The more you can focus on these, the quicker you will get traffic, participation and ranking for the most relevant keywords. If you post enough content you will eventually "stumble" on these - so watch your stats too...but like I said, the quicker you can get the right ones the quicker you will really ramp up your traffic and attention

3. Have offers and opt-in opportunities tied in with your posts...We use our blog not only for generating traffic and buzz, but as a front-end to our sales funnel - a lead generation system that works automatically on existing content. You want to not only have the "typical" opt-in box on the blog, but tie specific opt-in's within posts, around posts, etc... to really get it humming

4. Post regularly - I like to post daily, some days there is more involved content, other days I comment on someone else's content, other days I ask for input, etc...Mixing it up not only keeps you sane, it makes for more interesting content in your market

5. Track everything - after all, if your purpose is blogging as an extension of your business and not just a hobby, you want to know what works best and do more of it, what works least and do less of it...

Hi,
I agree with Alexa. A free blog is not the way you want to go. You don't own the content and it's difficult to monetize the way you'd like.

If you are starting to blog and you want to get some traffic you will need to post at least 7 days a week for the first 2-3 months. Then cut back to 3-4 times a week.

Epic posts receive the most traffic, (1500-2000 words), of fresh content. All of your content should be fresh.
