New Clickbank Fraud - Heads up

I noticed I haven't received any CB checks recently from one of my accounts.

So I logged in to find this account was suspended.

I emailed CB they said it was due to suspected fraud. I emailed them back and got my account reinstated easily. Their support was actually very good. Absolutely no complaints there.

Heres the scam that happened with my account.

It appears that someone got access to either stolen paypal account info or credit card info.

they created an affiliate account with CB.

Then proceeded to purchase a TON of my products that are 75% to affiliates. Using their new affiliate Id. Thus getting paid via clickbank using stolen paypal or credit card details.

This was revealed by between 10 to 20 refunds for each affected customer in my account.

Did they get paid via Clickbank for these affilaite sales? no idea.. depends on how long it took the owner of the stolen info to get the refunds initiated etc. hope not..

So all in all.. people got funds stolen and my CB account was suspended.

I was not notified that my account was suspended either, which I thought was strange.

Log into your CB account and see if you have multiple refunds from the same customer etc.

Just a heads up to know whats happening out there.

cheers

Pete

what a great idea! Kind of like money laundering - use the stolen CC to buy products through an affiliate account and then CB sends you a check.

Why don;t they use this ingenuity to do something productive?

I completely agree but a criminal is a criminal. That is all they know how to do.

Exactly. I always wondered that. When you look at these scammers and tricksters, they invest so much energy and creativity to do something like this.

And then you go, wow, if they used that in legit ways, they'd make even MORE money, lol.

This happened to me as well. I had one affiliate who got me three sales and two of them came literally within minutes of each other. One of the buyers had a female name and I sell a product for men. Sure enough, Paypal opened a claim on two of the sales and the third ended up as a chargeback from the buyer. I use e-junkie's affiliate software which means that I am responsible for paying affiliates. Luckily, the claims were opened before I paid him so the scammer got NOTHING from me.

Based on this, I'm hesitant to use affiliate software that pays affiliates instantly. This scam is more common than I thought.

That reminds me of a recent scam in Sweden where two people would play against each other in online Poker..

..the one with the stolen creditcard would lose all their games to the other guy who gets the payout from the poker site and the two meet up to split the winnings.

I told my brother a few years ago we should do this when he was going through his divorce. "Sorry your honor - my client lost 100k over the past few months from gambling."
