What's the best free autoresponder?

I have a friend that's just getting started in IM and I'd like to suggest an autoresponder that is free, (up until he hits x subscribers). So, he's not paying anything until he's likely getting enough traffic to make some money first.

Any suggestions?

    Self hosted or website based.
Listwire for web based or mail chimp.
    wysija for self hosted.

Back when I started in 2001, I went with SendFree...

    Autoresponders Free Advertising

And I'm actually surprised they're still in business... some
    12 years later!

My thoughts... if anything has lasted 12 years online, there must
    be some value to it.

You could start with $1 for the first month of Aweber. To tell you the truth, Aweber was indeed worth the money to build a list. But if you insist, try Listwire.

It's more of a kindness to your friend to tell him to start without one very temporarily, Brad. Using a free one briefly doesn't build up anything that you can transfer to a proper one anyway - it really isn't worth it. Nobody's keener on list-building than I am, but I certainly wouldn't let a friend use either of the two well-known free ones - that isn't really friendship.

You need so little money to use a real, top-of-the-range, professional one. GetResponse, for example, is first month free and then only $15 per month, in other words the first $15 paid lasts two months. That can surely get almost anyone started professionally? It costs more than $15 to go out for a drink, these days ...

Nobody actually needs a "free autoresponder": they only think they do.

The truly free ones either have appalling strings and catches or are monetized in other ways at their users' expense (or both) and are generally a nightmare and a disaster because the ways in which they're monetized are actually not conducive to any kind of list-building apart from arguably the spammiest, scammiest types.

This explains why, in more detail: http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...ml#post4171256

You could use Mailchimp but bear in mind that they don't allow internet marketers to use their software so you need to read the terms carefully. Or you could try out Aweber for $1 for the first month?

PHPList if he/she wants to spend some time configuring it. You can use external SMTP for better email deliverability.
