Few weeks ago I put a website that I have on auction, trying to figure out what it is worth. It was not so big, but I received about 5000 page views a month. The ad revenue was very little but I was getting money selling sponsored posts, about 300$ a month, also I had a great domain name. The biggest offer was $1000. I didn't sell the website.

It takes a lot of time to find the "right" buyer, who already has something related to your website topic and he can get sell something on your website that will generate enough revenue.

If your website shows first for different searches like that, it must be not related to a close topic, this lowers the value a lot because it is even harder to find the "right buyer".

Multiply your income by 10 and hope to get that value, unless it is fully automated and you have a lot of rich friends that are looking to "invest" everywhere.

about 5000 page views a month. The ad revenue was very little
      The biggest offer was $1000.
The dot-com bubble apparently still exists for amateur buyers, buying small sites, it seems. That's a foolish amount to pay for a tiny blip of a site.

At most, if the name was really good, maybe $500. Most names suck, however, and the site is honestly worth the cost of the template (~$50), and nothing more.

What is the monthly income? I would suggest using the flippa tool. I think it all depends on your monthly income which will be taked into the calculation for the amount for a possible sell.

  • Hey buddy I just checked out the site and I have to say it looks really good simple, clean, with crisp images. From the traffic alone the tool that I use says that it should be worth appx. $15,000. But, that does not include any money that you potentially could be making from affiliate links etc. With that said, the 'real' value is how much you can actually find someone to pay for it...

Hope that helped in some regard.

Wow, that must be the crappiest tool I've ever heard about since that estimate is completely ridiculous to make based off the amount of traffic.

Great looking site bro! Page views are important but more important to a potential buyer is revenue. Are you making any money at all with it on a monthly basis?

      Hey Gengis,

thanks again! the site gets more then 50k pageviews per month at the moment but its growing every month. The revenue is not a lot around $100 bucks per month from Buysellads.com and lijit.com. I work full time so this is some what of a second job or hobby i do after work. Every day I do 3 posts per day and that take me about 3-4 hours so there is not a lot of time to link build or try to approach potential advertisers to get more revenue.

it seems that all of the websites that are making bank have a team of people. i am trying to do all of that on my one

It's a completely made up number or he got it from an automated site estimation tool, which is the same as a completely made up number.

Monetize it and get some decent revenue going if you want to sell it for big bucks. Otherwise, it probably won't get anywhere close to $15K.

Think about it from the buyers point of view.

Even if they get hosting free, they value their time managing the site at zero, they ignore inflation, and the time value of money.... How long would it take to get their initial investment back and start making a profit?

Hopefully you can see waiting 12.5 years (150 months) is completely ridiculous.

Given uncertainty with things like SERPS and affiliate programs, even a year is a long time to wait.

Thar's why I think you would be lucky to get even $1200. And that's also why the best way to increase the potential selling price is to boost th revenue.

However if somebody looks at your site and thinks (wrongly or rightly) that they could easily increase the revenue dramatically, then you might get more.

$1500 roughly. Keep working on it and add more revenue streams so you can show more earnings. The traffic is there you are just lacking conversions. Good luck!

Let me start with saying... Don't listen to people who tell you what your website is worth now based on speculation.

Remember many great websites made no money or lost money the first years before they start earning money.

You have to think, with what kind of websites do I want to compare myself?
With an MFA website? If yes, the count one year turnover. Or with a content website with potential.

if you choose the last version, then your calculation will be much more difficult.

    1. Make your projection for the next 3 years, what do you expect from visitors, how many, and what will they do.
    2. If you have your high content website, who are your potential advertisers, make a list.
    3. Where do they advertise now and how much do they spend?
    4. If you can’t find individual companies to advertise, take contact with CPM networks, they are critical but if you are good, they will accept you.
If you have done all that, you will see that selling your website is not interesting more at the moment, making it big, is much more interesting. With a high content website you can make the mistake to cash to early and too little.

Make up your mind, what is the website MFA or high content?

Take a look around Flippa, particularly the Just Sold tab. There are a lot more sites on Flippa that don't sell than do sell and if I had a dime for every seller who tried to sell a site based on "potential", I could retire.

Every now and again, a really outstanding site with no revenue will sell for big bucks, but that isn't the norm.

You may measure a site's value by multiplying your site's monthly income with 12. This is how usually the value of a site get fixed. A lot of other things depends in it.

It's not worth anything until you sell it.
Don't worry about that, if you plan to keep it and use it. It doesn't matter.

      Website worth is subjective.

Converting traffic is only a primary factor for anyone who takes over the site with no immediate plans to execute marketing tactics, taking the site as it is as a cash cow.

Hypothetically, a site that has few visitors, but has a vast array of unique information can be worth a lot to a business who have resources and plans in place to make something of it.

It's also about potential, not just buying into something that's already rolling.

Try increasing the monthly revenue that your site generates and try to get your site earning consistent, stable money and you should be able to flip your site for a decent amount (probably around 12x it's monthly revenue).

Totally unrelated but you should make sure your post titles stay one line long so you don't mess up the boxes like that. Nit picky but symmetry is beauty.

As far as value, you should be making more from it than you are, start testing some monetization methods!

Nice site. I like the clean design. Would you mind if I asked what you built that with? Is that a Blogger.com site? Also, I noticed that it has no pagerank at all. You would think that with a site with so much traffic and high Alexa ranking, that it would have some pagerank. Not criticizing, just observing. Good luck with the site.

Your site DOES have a lot of potential but the things you are selling (im assuming you are affiliates of these products?) are either "lol" products, or "dream" products. Looks like a site you visit not to buy stuff but to dream of buying if you had tonnes of money. Why not start slipping in some cool but cheap products that people would actually buy on a whim?
