Does the general rule of thumb apply that for every member you have on your site, it adds $2 to the overal value of the website if sold?

Ie 5,000 members would mean the sites min value would be $10k? plus other factors

  • Plus a lot of other factors.
    Answer to question is no.

    Edit:
I should of expanded on that.
I can make a site and throw members in there, I would never buy a site off of the members.
I want to see the metrics of the site from a years standpoint.
If you can't provide that in screen share and have documented proof then I'm not interested.

    • Thanks for the info.

I've got a site which is close to 50k members and is getting a daily sign up on 300. I was just trying to piece together the base value of the members themselves. Tricky to do
  • I'm not saying that you can not sell it for that, what I am saying without profits I would not buy it at all.

See I can import an email list into my wordpress blog and fill it up with 50,000 members in a day. I can buy that list for 20 to 100 bucks. So pretty much that list is worthless.

    • Absolutely agree.

I have earnings on the site so those would be leveraged too in the sales pitch. I was just wondering if the old rule of thumb still applied and an investor placed a $2 price tag on every optin (which was real!!!!!!!)
  • An email is worth 1 buck by itself is also a rule of thumb.
I would say if you had metrics backing up your members, I would even pay more than 2 bucks an email.

I have no knowledge about the 2 dollar rule though.
