Has anyone invested in Flippa websites?

Hello folks,

I'm just curious.. Has anyone invested in flippa websites lately?

I have some money put aside and I'm planning to buy decent well-established sites that have a lot bigger income potential than they are currently making.

However, I browsed about a hour in flippa and...

1) A lot of sites have fake income stats (I'm too experienced to spot that out ASAP)
2) A lot of sites claim to have much bigger traffic than it actually is (eventhough they are GA verified)
3) A lot of sites are "stupid" get-cheapest-toaster-review.info that will not work in long-term
4) A lot of sites are simple CB products (probably scraped through PLR articles)
5) A lot of sites have extremely unnatural backlinking profile...
6) You name it...

What I'm looking for are sites, that have natural backlinks (so I can improve it on Google) and/or steady referral traffic.

I'm interested in buying sites that make approx 500 - 1500 per month. Does anyone have any tips for finding such? Or is it even possible? At the moment it looks like finding a needle in a haystack

Flippa's not your answer then. Probably better finding a broker. but you are going to be paying a premium for those kind of sites.

      Hey Lee,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. However, I'm not really sure that brokers actually deal with such "low-end" sites that are making 500-1500 p/m or do they?

      Cheers

Yes of course they do. I have a list of brokers I've dealt with. I'll find them out later and send them to you. Not at my home address, so I haven't got them with me.

Remind me later if I forget.

        Regards,

        Lee

You can get some great deals on Flippa. You can also easily get screwed. My suggestion is to really do your research and ask as many questions as you can. If you have any doubts about a site then it is probably better to move on and try to find another one.

first of all you can check the sellers profile for feedback from his previous clients...also have a look at the feedback of 'possible link to' accounts of the seller as this may be the account of that same person. Apart from this you can check the website with wayback machine for its status over a period of time. If the website has a Facebook fanpage .. then you may get lot of information about website from it... if the website is genuine then the regular and relevant posts will be there. you can also ask the seller to show you income proof / facebook like graph / analytics report live via skype or team viewer ... if the traffic is not organic then there are high possibility of having High Bounce rate.. Hope all this helps

Take time with Flippa and do thorough research and analysis on sites before investing on them.
I haven't done so my self but one of my friends have made great fortunes from Flippa.
He deals with buy and re-sell of sites.

99% of the people who have such sites won't sell them. Why would they? Would you sell a site that makes $1500/month?

If you can find a site like that for sale, it will cost a fortune.

      Why not?

Few months back I sold a site which made approx $6k per month for 90k. But let it be..

If you ask me why I sold this then there can be several reasons...

      A) You don't have time to manage it
      B) You want to move onto bigger projects
      C) You need quick money
      D) etc.

Anyhow, thanks guys. I'll be lurking around on flippa again

A lot of good information in this thread. I'd reiterate that you have to take your time with Flippa. Don't rush into buying a site right away. Check new listings every couple of days and thoroughly research all of them. Good sites pop up occasionally but you have to weed through the scammers.

Every now and then I reinvest money into premium sites on Flippa and luckily they have all worked out but I average buying one site per year. I don't use this as my primary business model but it's a good form of diversifying your income.

I have the name of a couple good brokerages if you want them. Prices tend to run higher than Flippa and multiples are usually 2.5 - 3 years forward net profit but the quality is much higher. Could be worth taking a look and you can always negotiate down.

That is really interesting. Will these brokers also help sell good-quality domains (with good-quality content in place) at beneficial prices?

If yes, then at least I shall be helped by the names. Please feel welcome to drop a PM. I shall check back this thread, and if I don't find your reply then I would assume that you didn't happen to drop by, in which case I shall send you a PM (assuming that you have not sent me a PM by then as you may not have checked).

      Thanks!

And one more vote (this one from a Flippa rep!) suggesting you take your time on Flippa. Not every site is going to be good for everyone. Have you set up any saved searches (at flippa.com/search)? That's the best way to be notified when something that matches your criteria hits the marketplace. With 1400 listings live at any moment, there's a lot to sift through, so search lists are key.
