To be realistic, how much you need to invest depends on your proposed business model and your existing skills and knowledge.

I'm far from sure that the words "good" and "autopilot" really belong in the same sentence. In any case, I think "an autopilot business" isn't a great or very realistic objective with which to set out.

I started off for under $100. And there was never a point at which having another $2,000/$3,000 to spend would have made my income any faster, bigger, more secure or more reliable. But I did have writing skills before I started, and that was essential to me, because my business model involves writing. I had absolutely no web design skills then, and have very few now. Technical skills (unless you're selling technical skills, obviously) aren't really needed at all, to become successful. People with technical skills are working for people with ideas.

By business has never been an "autopilot" one, though.

I would start with about $50

    $10 for a domain
    $20 for hosting
    $20 for an autoresponder

If you think about any business online, even large sites like Amazon, you have to have a website, a place to host your site, and a way of capturing leads.

That's the basics. Then you can consider what you want to sell. Affiliate offers. Kindle books. Physical products. Whatever you decide to sell, that is a basic amount to start with in my opinion, and only $40/month until the following year when you renew the domain.

Before investing in your business... invest in yourself mate. Read about copywriting and how traffic works. How advertising has evolved but still the core remains same. Develop some skills then enter this world because I am not giving you false assurances or discouraging you but it ain't easy out here.

It all depend on the kind of business you want to invest in and the kind of skills and experience you have.
If you have less skills and experience then your cost will go high since you will need to outsource for almost everything you need.
You probably need some guidance through the process which you may also need to outsource.
      all the best!

How much will what cost you?!

If you're going to start asking the prices of things (and they typically have hugely wide ranges, anyway, whatever they are), you're going to need to specify exactly what services you want to buy, you know? At the moment we don't even know what your proposed business model is. "Internet marketing" was as specific as you got - and that description covers at least a few hundred different types of businesses! :p

Find someone who is doing what you want to be doing... be sure to do your research (due diligence) there is a lot miss-information out there. There are success stories on here, just be sure to check them out.

The more specific you are the more people can chime in and help you out... Alexa is right on about that.

Just be careful if outsourcing... you can easily shell out 1000's without making a dime.
