Have not been on Amazon affiliate program in a long time. Tried to log in with my old id could not get in so after a few tries I decided to re-join. During the process this pops up

Residents of Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina or Rhode Island are not eligible to participate in the Associates program.

I live in Illinois. This is something about taxes. Now what? Amazon was going to play a big role in what I am doing. I knew they kicked some states out like Missouri. Saw that here. Didn't know about Illinois until just now.

There were some books and hard goods I wanted to market. Any Ideas.

Thanks
Scott

This tax started a couple years ago. It has not produced the revenue expected but won't be repealed (no tax ever is) unless voters speak out.

    Scott,
Sorry to hear you got the same bad news and were included in their "affiliate ban". I remember getting the recent email that Missourians were now disabled as asociates for Amazon. Pretty disappointing to say the least, especially since I had a lot of plans to include them as part of my overall online money-making strategy.

There are certainly other places to affiliate with, but it does suck.

I am hooked up with CJ and will check out share sale. From what I understood from Amazon was that right now it is a state thing and amazon will cut off the states that tax and wait for federal guidelines to be put in place. Once that happens then everyone will be able to get back in.

I'm sure that is probably the case, which makes it all the more frustrating. I'm trying to build a business, not get caught up as the "fall-guy" of some political game.

Sorry to be so cynical, but it's just how I'm feeling at the moment...Politics! Oy vey!

Well, I guess this is a good lesson to not put all your "online money-making strategy" eggs in one basket...

Sorry this happened to you. Yeah, ever since a few years ago they started locking certain states out of Amazon Associates.

There is however some other service you can use if you really want to still be an Amazon Associate, but they take 50% of your earnings if I remember it right. However I can't remember the name of the program, but maybe someone here can. Basically, they're an Affiliate with Amazon and then you affiliate with them. But in my mind, I just don't think it's worth giving half of what you earn away, so I'd only suggest finding out about that if you're dead set on using Amazon Associates.

As others have mentioned, there's Share A Sale and Commission Junction. Let me also add Link Share to that list. There's others as well. Also, keep in mind that just these three offer an absolutely enormous amount of physical products companies you can be an affiliate for so don't loose hope.

Using Squidoo is an option too; but you don't own the sites so there's risk attached.

Can´t you open a corporation or an LLC in one of the working states?

I´m not attorney, and have no idea of the legal part, but I did hear of people doing it.

It can be done, but will cost. $250 to 500 a year for state fees and a registered agent depending on the state and the company you use for a registered agent plus the fees for the mailbox company to forward mail. You would need to jump through some hoops to open a bank account in the name of the corporation as well.

Well you could just get a po box or online mailbox or a friend's address in another state and use that as your address.

Here are some options for you

    1) create an llc in another state and change your amazon account to point to that state and continue selling
    2) sell your website for a multiple of the earnings it was creating
    3) Move all your content to Squidoo and use their revenue sharing scheme
    4) Change all your links to promot products on Walmart instead of Amazon
    5) Signup with viglink or skimlink and use their affiliate links on your current website and participate in their profite sharing scheme
    6) Move to a state that is not banned and change your account to reflect your new residence
    7) Sell your sites to a family member living in a non-banned state. Then work out an agreement where you manage their site for a fee.

not too good at this point. Squidoo is kicking out marketers. Look around the forum, there is more than enough information about this.

I often see big internet companies respond to problems/situations like this with sort of knee-jerk reactions, which can be horribly unfair to select business partners. Although I've come to expect this kind of throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater behavior from companies like Google, I'm disappointed to hear that Amazon is behaving the same way.

I'm with hustlinsmoke on this one if amazon bans your state it's a good thing. I never even thought about an amazon strategy since I knew I would be wasting money driving traffic for the 5% lol, One thing I might do though is try some high ticket items but that won't happen unless I'm twittlin my thumbs with nothing else to do.

      Consider yourselves blessed.

Wrote a post on amazon not to long ago. I am not a great writer and usually just like to do controversial stuff.
    ----
Amazon Affiliates are Scammed, Don’t become an Amazon Affiliate Read this first.

I would never recommend becoming an Amazon Affiliate, you will spend more time working than earning. I call this the Amazon Affiliate Scam.

Okay on another Rant and Rave post.

I am really tired of yelling do not sell Amazon, they pretty much could care less about their affiliates, don’t believe me then email them and unless your one of the top two percent see which form letter you get even if it doesn’t pertain to your situation.

I am going to bust the talk on all these so-called Amazon Super Affiliates.
I am not going to disagree that there are not some making a lot of money with Amazon but after you see the numbers you let me know how many you think are.

First off, you have to tip toe on egg shells with Amazon, they kick you out and fold you up like a cheap folding chair at the sign of a sneeze. Worst part is they really never tell you why.

Your selling Amazon why, is it because of the magic number of 4 percent you get off your sales, or is it because you love building page after page of Amazon stuff to get that 100 bucks per month.

Amazon pays on a scale. See scale pic below.

Now if you notice the first tier is 4.00 percent all the way up to 8.5 percent.
We will not even mess with anything lower than 8.5 percent.

So if you sell 3131 items at 8.5 percent and the average price of those items is
319.38 then you would be a million dollar producer. You would also gross
    85,000.00 U.S. Dollars.

To be a volume player such as that you have to pay to play. I will not say that it
an impossibility to get enough free traffic for those numbers but it is highly unlikely.

Traffic, you have to remember you have to pay for clicks to your site. So first you have
to get your ad out there in some form. Banner, ad words ect. If you were the best at
getting traffic and only spent .2030 cents per click, how many clicks per sale. Lets just assume
your the best at that too so lets say 80 visitors per sale. So now were at .30 cents per click
and 80 clicks per 1 sale.

That’s 24 bucks a sale and that is highly unlikely on a 319.00 item. For the sake of this though
lets say that is it. Now we need 3131 sales so

    3131 x 24 = 75144

Now we haven’t figured in graphic fees, refund rate or anything else.

Lets say that person makes 3,000.00 for the 3131 sales. Now to get those sales that person did alot of work,
it is not easy getting all those clicks, managing all those adverts and working the website.

How many do you really think get 3131 sales. I would assume most would sale 10 to a 100 a month.

I’m not busting anyone’s bubble what I am doing is trying to show you how to play smarter to be smarter.
Lets take the same numbers for JVZOO, another affiliate platform.

Now at JVZOO you get paid what the seller wants you to make, you find the product you want to sell. You ask
for permission to sell it and if they pay 100 percent you get 100 percent.

We will use low numbers for this analogy.
You sell 3131 items at an average of 10 dollars an item. Now remember the Front End is always a cheap item its the oto’s where you are going to make the most from.

That is 31310 in gross revenue.

Now lets say you get 75 percent commission from that,

    23482.5

Now because of the price of the item and what the item is the other costs will go down but lets keep it at
.30 cents a click and bring down the number of clicks to 30 clicks per sale which is still a little high on a low
    priced item.

Traffic is going to cost 18,786.00

I will not finish with graphic fees etc. As you can see alone the time managed will be less, the profit margin much higher and you have control on if you want to take 50 percent or 100 percent of the sale. You also have the opportunity to get the sales off the One Time Offers that they sell with it.

This is not only feasible but entirely possible. Six dollars for a sale, pick a ten-dollar item and get 100 percent commission. All the oto’s will be gravy.

I know the comment section may go wild when this posts hits google but there are a lot of variables and I will agree with that. I will also state though I have never known an Amazon Super Affiliate that did not spend at least half their profit in
traffic and have headaches day in day out especially when Amazon changes the rules and your frantically trying to get your websites where they need to be so you don’t lose your affiliate status.

Work Smart not hard everyone, stay away from Adsense, amazon, eBay and places that will take your first-born from you.

    Thank you

I can not believe you people even want to spend 10 dollars to get back on Amazon.
I understand 4 to 8 percent is so much money to lose and its absolutely not worthwhile
    to go to
    CJ
    Avangate
    Kolimbo
    Jvzoo
    Warriorplus

And find products from 20 percent to 100 percent commission.

I understand everyone loves Amazon and the fact they could wake up any morning and they have your state banned or you have a link on your site they don't like and shut you down.

I understand that you love to make 80 grand a year and spend 75 grand to pay for advertising fees to get the traffic in.

    Have a great day.
