My forum was hacked this morning, Any forum owners around?

I started forum in April.
It was hacked this morning however its been recovered but some posts from day and two were lost in the process.
Forum script is from vBulletin and I am hosting them with hostgator.

Currently I am not using any special security and backup protocols.

What would you suggest I need to do in terms of security and back up for the forum?

    You would be far better checking Vbulletins forums as they have a ton load of information along with discussions on best security practices

    My vBulletin forum was hacked this morning as well. I cleaned up the mess the hacker left. I was not running the latest version of vBulletin so I'm upgrading that right now. Make sure your up to the latest version 4.2.1
