Hi guys! Was looking to see if I could get some advice, tips, etc?
I started a forum in 2011, I started getting some members about 20 active members, 180 total members.

I don't know what happened to me I failed to pay hosting for my site each month and my hosting was on and off ever since. The members were visiting my site and it was down a lot. I just got it up and running, will be switching everything to hostgator, (just got a years worth of hosting)

Any advice on how I can bring back members again and grow it more? All forum content is old, last post was from 2012

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!! thanks!

The biggest reasons why forums fail are:

    1. Not enough new members.
    2. Apathy from the owner / mods
    3. Not enough new, useful content to keep members around

So my question to you would be:

    1. How many new members are you getting per day? Per week?
    2. You said the last post was in 2012, so I already know the answer to #2.
    3. See #2 above.

How did you get your original members?

Note: Please do not post the URL to your forum or this thread will probably disappear.

Promoting in Sigs, and social media advertising. Easiest way to reach your target audience is to go to them, not to wait for them to come to you. :-)

You can try and invest some money in postloop.com, maybe this can help to add some new content.

Did you capture the active members emails? you can send them a warm email welcoming them back. Social media pages can also boost your reach.

You should buy forum posters from fiverr. Good ones, not one worders.

Close the forum and get a Facebook Fan page. You'll have a lot more interaction there.

I think it is best idea you should follow.

If you are really very serious and ready to spend good money on making your forum alive

      Here are some suggestion

Hire good forum posters from odesk, guru, freelancer and fiverr

Give your members some cool stuff

Work with your content and make it interesting.

      Socialize your forum

      Regularly communicate with forum members

      I hope it will help

I'd just tell the people what happened. If they come back, they come back, if not, they'd probably not be very active anyway

Maybe you could have a contest and post a thread about a controversial topic in your thread. People that post in your forum will be entered into the contest. Maybe you could hold this a few times in a row in order to build your forum posting back up.

I would send out an email to all past members apologizing and if there's anything you can give them, of value, free of charge, do it. After that, I'd move on and work on getting new members.

Work on your hosting and probably you can hire moderator if you can't do it yourselves.

Thank you for the rplys everyone! I really appreciate it!!!! I think the main reason a lof of members left was because I didn't pay the hosting and the site went down for almost an entire year. I was able to send an email out and some original members logged back in but haven't come back. Now that I got this new deal on hosintg paid for an entire year, Im sqitching everything over then change logo, forum skin, free forum stickers for old and new members, then maybe do the fivverr gigs. I didnt think about that lol, same thing MTV did back in the days, they would pay people to go to parties then they'l film it!!!
