Could the End of Kindle be Near?

We all know about the end of AdSense, and though it's still a great way to monetize content, since Panda and Penguin small Adsense publishers have never made near the amount of money that was possible in the day. Currently, I'm making LOTS of money with Kindle, from just a few short books, but I am wondering whether the end of Kindle for small authors will one day come as well. Already bigger authors with publishers backing them are storming Kindle, and while some may say the "end of publishers" is nigh, I think they will simply evolve, into a more marketing focused service for authors, and their backing will continue to be as important for success in the book publishing world as it was before eBooks.
Let me know whether you guys think Kindle will continue to be such a fruitful source of income for small authors in the future.
Thanks and good luck on Kindle!

This topic came up a few days ago and I posted my thoughts there:

The Kindle platform is still in it's infancy. Granted there are some very competitive niches out there, but that only impacts people who don't know how to market themselves. One of the smartest things I've seen so far is people using their short reports / ebooks as lead generators and funneling customers into a sales / content funnel.

So really ambitious folks have formed their own Kindle author groups and network to help one another.

        Well said, Stefan.

It's amazing how quickly things "evolve" online. Just looking back 5 years ago (2008) as compared to what's going on now.

The mediums may change. But the demands don't. People need to be entertained and informed. That's not going to change. Whether they do it through Kindle...or Nook..or some app...or any other kind of medium. People will keep reading.

--->I can also write other fiction (horror, romance, mystery, etc). Just ask me, I don't bite. :)

  • There is always going to be a new trend that marketers find a way to profit from in the early stages. This allows for a false sense of success, and like clockwork, it's usually followed by saturation, and/or policy changes that make the "tactic" close to useless for most.

One common mistake that I see that most marketers make is that they only focus on writing and mass uploading tons of eBooks to Kindle, without working on branding themselves as an author in order to be sought out. This results in being lost amongst millions of eBooks.

But then there's that one marketer who writes and uploads that one eBook and sells thousands, if not millions of copies due to properly promoting themselves. Long story short, it's not so much about the end of Kindle, it's about people not having a clue on how to market themselves on a growing website.

^^ This! Exactly as he said... (although I would put it differently because I am not as nice as he is; i.e. 'idiot marketers screw up even the best opportunities with their retarded tactics')

Yeah... ;-) They do screw things up, but there are still many opportunities for the rest of the fiction authors, thank goodness.

So happy that most IMers are too lazy to join the fiction train LOL

I've got news for you. Based on what I've read so far, there's an awful lot of fiction clogging some of the nonfiction categories.

I can't wait until the gold rush moves on...

Kindle will still be a great opportunity for many years to come. It won't be for spammers, scammers, and low quality books, but that is a GOOD thing! It definitely will be strong for great authors, great books, etc.

The END is always near, for those people who are clueless and lazy.

If you don't consider yourself to be either one, then the END is no where near hitting you.
