Stuck In A Marketing Rut

Hey guys, I'm currently stuck in a rut with my business where I don't feel motivated to do much and feel completely drained. I'm sure you have felt like this at one point. One of my websites use to be in top result of google and was getting over 200 visits a day and was making me a lot of sales, now the position in google has gone from 1st to 11th and I feel why bother anymore? I use to write 2-3 articles per day and did my best to promote the site and it feels like a kick in the ass now that I only get 10 visits a day because my competitors have passed me out in the search results. How do you handle this?

It's not just my website but my other business that are suffering, I know I should be enjoying my work as I have before but lately I don't feel like doing anything. I would love to feel motivated again but i guess it's just one of those moments in life where everything feels so bad. Not just that, there is far too much information on the internet these days that make all these promises that your business will succeed if you follow this program and do this, that and the other. After a while it becomes overwhelming and this is what makes me feel frustrated. Please help.

Always a bad place to be in. The desire to just earn, earn and earn can make you lose sight of some of the key issues.

Take some time to assess what your best path is. Don't throw money at courses, its desperation talking when you do that.

You might have to re-invent yourself within your niche, or even in a different niche. I understand that your Google rankings have dropped, thus leading to the lack of traffic.... but diversify your traffic methods and use other means to indirectly rank high within Google... Yahoo, and Bing. Don't give up though or be deterred... Obama is going to turn this economy around lol

When times get tough and business lags . . .

That's not the time to work less because you're sad about things.

"I use to write 2-3 articles per day and did my best to promote the site and it feels like a kick in the ass now that I only get 10 visits a day because my competitors have passed me out in the search results."

Don't blame competitors - what they do is largely beyond your control. If you can't compete, figure out a way to re-focus your emphasis so you offer slightly different benefits to the niche.

" . . . lately I don't feel like doing anything." We all have ups and downs but the successful people don't give up and they find a way to push through or around the obstacles in their path.

"there is far too much information on the internet these days that make all these promises that your business will succeed if you follow this program and do this, that and the other. After a while it becomes overwhelming and this is what makes me feel frustrated."

Don't buy into the hype - you know better.

It's not the Internet's fault and it's not the hypster's fault that your business isn't going like you want it to perform.

You are the business. If you don't perform, it won't perform.

Dig in, figure out what you can do better or what changes you need to make, then push forward and get beyond your doubts.

Self motivation is your best friend.

  • It sucks to be in that position. You should try to find some like-minded individuals to help you through your rut. We've put together a free mastermind forum group for other self-employed and soloprenuers, and you should check it out - the site is in my signature. Good luck!

I keep a few projects as side projects that are more passion projects than business oriented. When I am completely burned out, I try to work on those to relax. I set up a third monitor to watch TV and movies on too when I am feeling burned.

Change the thinking to give value to your target market. Make you special. Then you will have something other people do not.

Branch out to all other 25 different ways where you can market online. Google is just one.

Just don't give up or quit though. Focus on one thing that really works on your niche. Once it works, try to scale it up for even more to gain some income to your website. Always remember that you should not put all eggs in one basket, try to focus on one working method first.

If you believe it or not life runs in rhythms it's as simple as that. People have even called it biorhythms but, the simple fact is there are certain things that will come along and test anyone and how you come out the other side determines how you deal with these "life test" in the future.

It's not about what happens but how you react to what happens

Lack of motivation is a time and energy sapping feeling. It could be that there is something wrong with your health making you feel this way. Often, when people spend hours in front of the computer and don't get out in the sun much they get short on Vitamin D and this can make you feel like that. Make sure you balance your life and get enough time away from business pursuits to enjoy yourself. A good holiday could work wonders, as could a new hobby or interest. Get plenty of sleep so you are not overtired.

I hear you....got to take time off. Look at other things....honestly theie is business off the Net.

Stop being a busy fool. Levarage and smarts are the key.

12 hours+ day writing article, spamming blogs etc...isn't smart nor sustainable.

Agree with going on a holiday

Or find a way to surround yourself with people more successful than you. That should either inspire you, or piss you off to the point where you feel you have no choice but to put your heart and soul back into it!

I hear you and feel your pain and frustration. I think the world of IM and making money online has changed and is continuing to change.

It is becoming harder and harder to rely on Google for traffic. And the 'gurus' know it, hence, the push for massive list building, product development, solo ads and memberships sites.

I don't know what niche you are in or what business model(s) you use, but, IMHO, it appears that the most sustainable model that survives the assaults of Google is a blog that, as Corbett Barr says, 'matters'- a quality blog that changes "the lives of the people who start them and the readers who follow them."

As in the video you shared above, follow your passion. Find a niche within your passion and create a blog that matters. Create content that changes your life and the lives of your readers.

We can no longer hide behind the walls of anonymity if we want to create a successful online business. Google has shown that with the rankings boost given to Google+ authors and others who are willing to put their face on their business.

A blog that matters, a blog that makes a difference-

It's what readers want and what Google wants. The writing is on the wall.

So, perhaps it's time to step back and re-strategize.

I understand how you feel as i have been in the same place before. You can simply take a couple of weeks off and just completely rest and get away from the internet marketing scene for a little while. You will come back and should be refreshed and raring to go again.

Thanks for all the great advice guys, but I have been writing articles for my affiliate sites almost every day now but still seeing very little traffic, I have also spent a fair amount of money on Facebook Ads and have even outsourced some of the work. I'm just thinking what's the point in spending hours a day working your butt off and wasting money on advertising if you are not making many sales ? I want to keep at it though but there must be a faster way to get traffic??

Quality traffic is better than faster traffic. Increase your conversion rate with better sales copy. See if your product would work well for a JV launch and try to leverage someone elses list.

Never depend on Google. It's a very unreliable business partner, even if you try to do everything aboveboard. Pretend that Google no longer exists. There will be a bit of a struggle, but when you finally have traffic coming in outside the Google monopoly, you'll be able to give Google the middle finger and not have to abide by its hypocritical Net Nanny B.S. anymore.

You should do a google search for "EFT for motivation". It is a simple process to learn and it can help with a lot of things, including feelings of depression or lack of motivation. It has definitely helped me a lot, with all kinds of things.
