IF you only had $300/month to spend on list building....

I saw this question being asked on DP forums. I thought this was a very good question.

So I am asking this question here.

If you only had $300/month to spend on list building in the IM niche...how would you spend it?
#$300 or month #building #list #spend

    Depends on the niche.

The most obvious answer is "solo ads" - but that doesn't necessarily work in all niches.

The second obvious answer (based on current trends) is "Facebook ads" - this will work in most all niches.

The third answer is PPV - simply because it's another way to get super cheap but targeted traffic (if you know what you are doing). However, this will work mostly in the bigger niches only.

The list goes on and on but without knowing the niche it's hard to cater my answers to be less "general".

    Cheers,
    Coby

I'm sorry, it was the IM niche.

Yeah, a lot of people did say Solos but of course, the thread took a turn for the worse and got deleted. The argument was all of the Solo Ads in the IM nice are so saturated it's a joke to use Solo's anymore. That caused the thread to BLOW UP!

        okay - cool.

Yeah, I can see this thread turning the same way.

But - to add my 2 cents about solo ads - it is indeed saturated - but the key is choosing the right providers.

While it may be true that many solo ad providers are indeed mis-treating their lists in a handful of ways - but it's not the rule.

There are plenty of solo ad providers who treat their list right and treat their solo ad customers ads the same way. These are the folks you want to find and do repeat business with.

I agree - for a beginner - this can be very hard to do. But as you do more homework (and buy more solo ads) you will gain the experience and knowledge to judge the quality of their list right away.

Also, this is why tracking is so important. By tracking your results you can weed out the "bad" solo ad sellers and spend more money with the "good" solo ad sellers.

Of course - how you treat the list after they are YOUR subscribers also plays a huge role in rather you will be successful with solo ads. If folks are buying solo ads to build a list to sell solo ads themselves then this is a bad idea. However, if you plan to nurture and teach these subscribers and give them value then it really won't matter how many lists they are on as they will be putting you and your content ahead of the "others".

But for me personally - I don't mind people thinking that solo ads no longer work.

        Cheers,
        Coby

P.S. Sarevok mentioned banner buys and this also another great way that will work in nearly every niche.

Half would be in PPC (Facebook) and the other half would be spent on solo ads.

Maybe if I wanted to integrate a third source I'd find some inexpensive banner buy somewhere.

    So

    1/3 - PPC
    1/3 - Solo Ads
    1/3 - Banner Buy

That's all you need really for an explosive quantity of traffic.

IF... And it's a strong if...

If you understand your market and what it wants.

Definitely a good way to test your budget and various traffic cources/strategies.

      Good addition Steve!

Not sure why I forgot this one as it's something I do all the time myself.

FREE WSOs are very powerful and these are folks in a "buying section" of the forum so I consider them to be a step above the "average freebie seeker".

      Cheers,

    Safelist solo ads!
    I recommend Rent-a-List

Save for a few months, get a killer premium whitepaper created (something that the target audience would obviously want) and give it away for a list sign up.

Once you've written it, or paid off your copywriter, use the $300 for paid search or media to drive folks to the offer page.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8498812].message }}
  • Definitely leverage the forum you're on. Like others said, a WSO and any other advertising you can buy here would make "cents". This place is totally targeted to your audience!

Most solo ad sources are used and abused. Make sure to participate in expensive co-ops that the top affiliates are using. It is worth ever penny. I used to focus on the cheapo 20-25 cents per click solos and got nothing but freebie seekers or non-responsive people

I would start with Facebook Ads. ( I say this because I m experienced with it )

Also, although I have never tried them I hear that solo ads are pretty effective.

There's literally thousands of traffic sources that you can throw money at to build a list.

The best you can do is test test test and find some good quality traffic. At that point scale up and grow your list more and more.

Master ONE major traffic source - then move on to the next

If I had that amount to spend for list building, solo ads is the best way to go. Other than that, I also use Facebook ads to build my list as well.

Basically, you just need to spend on a hosting account, buying some good and relevant solo ads and participate in JV giveaway events to build your list for less than $300 per month.

Seems like facebook ads and solo ads are the way to go. But i also assume, you should have some copywriting skills to write persuasive emails.

    Hey

Solos and Facebook ads. You have to do your job too, but not just spending money. Read TOS at Facebook to avoid to be banned. Find a good solo ads vendor. Make ad swaps regularly to help to build your list faster. I am sure you can succeed.

    Good luck
