Couple of video questions

I want to do some videos. I have never done videos from a PC. My dad had his own video business and I would help sometimes. Those cameras were huge. Like TV cameras. I have a handheld video camera and tripod but I don't think that is what I need. My PC does not have a webcam. I bought one for skype.

What do I need to get started doing videos. What software? I have VLC viewer don't know if that is worth anything. I also used to have some free program that would do screen capture videos but don't remember what it was called. Think it began with a C. Played around with that a little.

If I want to use my webcam and do a video with me on camera what software do I use? Free is good but will buy if it is not an arm and leg!

Does youtube still have a 10 min limit on videos? If I host my videos on my own site do I have to stick to a time limit? I would like my vids on youtube as I have seen around here that can get you a lot of traffic.

    You could try creating an account and uploading them. After you have worked out all of the above of course.

    I use CamStudio as well - Free and super easy. Purchased a cheap mic off Amazon and looked up some audio tutorials to boost the audio quality (really helped for voiceovers)

    Also use Final Cup Pro although you could probably get away using a different free editor (imovie if you're on a mac works well also)

    Looks like Arnold was pretty thorough answering your questions. I just wanted to add my two cents. Your small camcorder should be good enough depending on what you want to do. If you want high-quality footage like you see in television and commercials it probably won’t suffice but if you are making some basic marketing or tutorial type videos, any recent 6-800 dollar camera will work great.

    As far as software, if you want a high quality finished video, don’t skimp here. I would check out adobe preimere elements if you don’t want to spend a lot seeing how you like production.
