Recommendations for bulletin board software....

So I am in the process of overhauling all my money sites....

PRODUCT sites have moved to SHOPIFY and I LOVE it. It's so easy to modify and "buy" apps that plug in easily and do cool stuff. (no programming required).

NOW I'm looking to overhaul a very good old FORUM running VBulletin but want that same experience, where it's easy to modify, lots of apps to plug in with the click of a button, etc. Is there something like this out there in the market for forums??????

Thanks in advance!

Vbulletin is still the best. There are a lot of forum scripts but I think function-wise, nothing can beat VB....

vBulletin is old... but still ok and 'expensive'
phpBB is ok but slow as shit

SMF = faster and just as good as phpBB
VanillaForums = is nice and modern and very lightweight, however can sometimes be bit of a pain in the *ss modding..

I usually go with the one of the last 2.

Why has nobody mentioned MyBB yet? It's free also, and is extendible with plugins like wordpress is..

Smf was terrible... I moved from smf to vb because it was flexible I started making a fortune when I moved....

    Vb5 is looking pretty good...

Also be aware that facebook is killing a lot of forums

Lots of people are just socialising on facebook rather than forums....

I have seen lots of forums close due to this

I'd recommend sticking with either vBulletin but if you definitely want to change then I'd recommend taking a look at MyBB - I've used it for years and love it.

There are a lot of forum software's out there to choose from. vBulletin is probably the most popular choice and is a very professional option. You have free options like MyBB and phpBB which are also good. I would say go for vBulletin if you can, but if you can't afford it you could use one of the free options and convert to vBulletin later on.

I moved from smf and went to vbulletin when I had about 150,000 posts and it was a big headache :-)

I also changed the domain as well in the move :-) It was a high risk strategy but paid off extremely well for me :-)

Go ahead with MyBB, it's free, easy & secure forum software. i'm using it since 2008 & have no issues.

Not only is VBulletin loaded with features and customizable but their support is excellent. You will probably start with some support issues when first getting off the ground so this is very important to keep in mind!
