I have not promoted this blog yet. I have a couple of pages and a couple of posts. I have been publishing as I go along. There is not much content but I have had the blog a couple of months and it has been indexed.

I just got a comment on a page that said this blog is intriguing thanks for the valuable information. The site that the link came from was an audio site from France and it is all in french. That site really has nothing to do with my site. I don't know if I should approve this comment or not. Is it just some other site trying to get a backlink. I am not sure what comments to approve. I am guessing not this one as the site it came from has nothing to do what what my site is about.

Is this a very very general comment like: "Great website! Thanks for the great info!"?
Probably spam, and you will be getting plenty of similar comments in no time. I would just save my time and ignore these comments.

You will get all sorts of spam coming through, you just have to monitor it, an make sure you moderate them before any comments 'go live'.

    Hope this helps

I get quite a lot of comments like this on my site, and it can be hard sometimes to tell whether it is spam or not. If it's coming from a totally unrelated site and doesn't mention anything about your post and seems too generic, chances are it's just spam.

I've had (and still have) the same problem. Got so excessive that i had to turn comments off and new registrations off. Somehow the spam bots know how to infiltrate and spam the hell out of your blog everyday.

One of my blogs are getting hundreds of comments a day, mostly spam.
As this is a nightmare to go through all the comments and check what's
real, what's spam, I just turned comments of.
That's the easy way I think.

It is spam, get Akismet and anything that is in the Spam section is spam. Also, manually approve posts. In WordPress, you will get a lot of spam after your site gets indexed.

Definitely spam. Another tell-tale sign is that those comments have a keyword where the person's name should go instead of an actual name; and then they try to link. They hope the keyword will get hyperlinked. I automatically spam those.

You'll be bombarded with these spam comments in a short while. Sign up for Akismet - it's free - as soon as you can and spare yourself the time wasted.

Like others have recommended, Akismet is a good plugin for this. It seems to filter out the spam quite accurately, however, some legitimate comments still end up in the spam folder, so I just make sure I monitor it properly.

That is definitely spam. Moderate on comments before they are published.

Its obvious that you will not approve the comment. Once you approve the spam comment than you have to deal with more spam’s coming to your inbox. You can use Comment moderation option in Wordpress that permits you to forestall remarks from showing up on your site without your express approbation. Comment moderation is a very useful service in tending to Comment Spam, yet it has more general provisions moreover.

If you don't have the money to spend on Askimet, I HIGHLY recommend the free plugin: Antispam Bee. It is just pure awesomeness. A few settings to click to enable/disable and it works on autopilot wonderfully.

    Get Askimet.
Then set up a keyword blacklist here's how:

From the dashboard, go to settings, then discussion. scroll down and there are two boxes. the first box says:

When a comment contains any of these words in its content, name, URL, e-mail, or IP, it will be held in the moderation queue. One word or IP per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match “WordPress”.

Here you set up keywords that you want wordpress to watch for and hold for moderation.

Now for the blacklist keyword area. The next box down is a box that says:

When a comment contains any of these words in its content, name, URL, e-mail, or IP, it will be marked as spam. One word or IP per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match “WordPress”.

Now you need to find as many blacklist keywords as possible and place those words one per line.

    Example:

    spam word 1
    Spam word 2
    spam word 3

Tips: If you use gmail a great way to get more keywords is to look into your gmail accounts spam folder. Use notepad and copy and paste as many spam words as possible within 2 minutes.

Insert those words in your blacklist box and click save changes.

This should catch any comments that come in with those words and place them in your spam on your blog.

Be sure to go through your spam folder every week and make sure that real comments didn't get sent there.

As the others have said, odds are the comment is spam.

I get similar comments on a blog I have just a placeholder for. The only post is the default "Hello, World". I'm still trying to figure out what's so insightful and valuable about those two words.

Installing Akismet and Bad Behavior plugins pretty much eliminated the junk.

This comment is spam. Don't approve such comments.
Use "Cookies for Comments" plugin for Wordpress sites to get rid of such comments. This plugin is recommended by Matt Cutts, Head of webspam team at Google and is highly effective.

    Akismet works:
    • 10,243 total spam
    • 250 total ham
    • 37 missed spam
    • 8 false positives
    • 99.57% accuracy rate
That's 10,000+ spam comments I didn't have to deal with.

Most probably it is just spam. Actually, I'm at a point where I delete all comments which are just too general and just say "great website" or "nice post" because most likely those are spam. Akismet can help you to prevent a lot of them

I think WF would improve 99% if it used something like Akismet. It seems like half the posts in the above-the-fold forums are drive-bys.

I bet if you were to look closely at that spam comment the field where the person is supposed to put his/her name has a product keyword in it instead of a real name. It's just spam. Mark it as such and move on. I get dozens daily.

It is a surefire spam comment. Because the source is irrelevant and also the comment have got nothing to do with your content. Just something generic with praises. Never approve this kind comments.
