If you send an anonymous email to somebody (anonymous in the fact that 'without' them knowing that it came from you (under a false email address for example)

can they track where it came from, what ip address, what city, which home, which person? - or by using advance technology ?
(lets say that person are clever in computing/programming etc)

and how about intelligence agencies, can they track this sort of data? if so how?

There is no such thing as anonymous. All & any kind of data is tracked while online. The only way to circumvent is through falsifying your information. But again, that falsified information is still tracked.

      tracked? how?

reason being, i was having this debate with my cousin that everything can be tracked online, by clever technologies used by secret services, etc.. but he says, you cant....

he says you can only just track IP addresses of sites, and email senders and NOTHING ELSE- and not actually source who sent an email one another person, or which city/town/house sent the email.

so wanted to clear up the debate, by asking regular WF email posters

My opinion, it can be tracked. Everything while online can be tracked.

By seeing email headers, ip of the server/computer from where it was sent. Sometimes spammers spoof these too.

But they can be tracked even somebody sends the email with false email address.

        Rephrase the question:
Can locations of email senders be tracked?
        YES!
Can we track the locations of email senders?
YES, but only down to a specific level, usually ending at the Internet Service Provider, or Mail Service Provider. Further drill down to the specific originating point is possible, but is not usually available to the public at large........
        Note the ........
