Elance vs. Guru - which is your choice?

hi guys

I've tested both Elance and Guru - to hire content writers and more.

What's your experience with them two, and why would you go with one over the other?

Let's keep discussion to these two sites alone; I know there are a ton others, but I want we compare just the two, good?

I look forward to all your comments, suggestions and questions...

I use both of them for writers (and Odesk).

Out of the two I have had better quality "Content" with Elance.

I do end up paying a little more after everything is all said and done but it is worth it to me.

Elance is better but to become successful as a freelancer, i recommend to join more than 5 freelancer websites. such as odesk, freelancer, elance, guru and many others.

They are both good choice and you will find that most serious freelancers can be located on both sites and more. However, there is usually a wider range of jobs and freelancers available on elance and it's more popular so my vote goes to elance.

I think you will actually end up paying less in the long run (on average) with Elance. The talent is a little more competent so you don't have to pay for as many mistakes down the road. I have had great luck finding talent on Odesk and then pulling it offline on a project to project basis.

it's difficult to say because ur experience ultimately comes down to the particular contractor u hire, but for the bigger jobs i've typically had the best luck w elance

Between those 2, I'd recommend Elance - but overall I'd go with oDesk.

I agree with Odesk 100% as well. I just gave my opinion earlier answering the specific question.

Elance is better but when it comes to content writing, you can find skilled writer at other sites like iwriter and textbroker

definitely none of you have used Guru, at least not to an extend you could compare it with Elance

Not sure why most of you guys recommended odesk, the comparison was between Elance and Guru, plain and simple

I used it a while ago and found a retired sports writer for the newspaper that was amazing, but I think there probably a large pool of talent overall on Elance and Odesk. But that doesn't mean you can't find quality on Guru.

My take is that you get lesser quality and lower priced work on odesk. If you post a job on odesk you will be swamped with bids for people/companies that clearly dont read you job posting but are bidding on everything. I have had more contractors go south and not complete work on odesk.

With elance you will pay more but you will get higher quality work. I have had very few contractors fail to complete work on elance. If you want it done right without having to spend time rewriting or grammar check then go with elance.

    Hey,

Why not use them both? Post the same project on both of those sites as well as any others you can think of. It only serves to get your project in front of more potential writers that way.

The arguments of "there are better writers on ________" or "you get work for cheaper on ________" mean nothing to me. As long as you have a comprehensive method of evaluating and negotiating with the writers it really only comes down to getting as many of them bidding on your project as you possibly can.

Then just pick the best one for your project.

All the sites have good, bad, cheap and expensive writers. You just have to be willing to spend some time to separate the wheat from the chaff.

    Make sense?

    Tony

I have enlisted some key parts of my group through elance, and it has been truly incredible. I would say that not just do you get what you pay for despite the fact that I have gotten some truly sensible ability that I might never have discovered so sensibly through different strategies, the same exceptional enlisting and administration practices that apply anyplace on elance and I assume guru.com). That is, the more point by point you might be about your necessities the better, the all the more unmistakably you can convey the better, staying in touch and keeping the undertaking making headway, and so on forth. There's an allurement to let things run on auto-pilot more, since its the internet, however I suppose its key to oppose that enticement.

I have an account on both Guru and Elance. But I mostly work on Elance because I consider it better than Guru. Also, I work on Odesk and Freelancer too.

    Neither.

Odesk for me. Although you do tend to get A LOT of the usual "Dear Hiring Manager" replies, you can and often will find some gems.

It my experience is it all the same, sometimes I will have better luck on one or the other. It really just depends on who you select as both have very good freelancers and both have very bad freelancers.

The question should not be which is better, it should be how do you know if the professional you are hiring is any good.
