Jeff is right - lurk around here a while, read some sticky post and lurk some more. I've found and lurked my way up for a while and just recently started actually getting involved in the forum - wish I had started sooner!

Like the other two posters mentioned before me, you can read several threads of this forum and pick up some great information about internet marketing.

However -- it is very easy to fall victim to information overload in this business.

This is why after spending some time learning -- decide on what type of business model you want to go after and focus on that and NOTHING else!

The successful ones in this business are the ones that do not jump from one system to the next -- but stick to one method that is proven to work until they start seeing results.

I wish you the best of luck in your new business and online adventure

Yes, there is a ton of information in this forum.

And I'm going to talk about the elephant in the room even though it's not the politically correct thing to do. And that is this: there is a lot of inaccurate information in this forum.

This is a public forum and while there is some good information in here, if you're new to starting a business online using the internet, it's more than likely you're not going to know good information from bad information.

I've been a fulltime marketer for well over a decade and while I'm not an expert at everything (no one is), I have several core competencies in certain areas and I can usually tell when someone is giving misinformation.

In fact, I see a lot of bad advice given on this forum daily. No wonder so many newbies are confused. Look at threads where people ask about the best autoresponder and 99% of the information given is completely untrue. Or people asking the best way to get started, well, it's going to vary for every one.

Some solid advice I can give you is to stop looking for "simple and easy way". Realize that there are differences between the plethora of money-makers out there and starting a real, long-term business that you can sell later or will / trust to your children, family, and/or favorite charity.

Staring a business online takes a lot of hard work in the beginning. This is a fact based on reality that marketers will try to dress up with fancy words, hype, and empty promises. That is not to say that there isn't any good information out there. There is, plenty of it, but you have to be willing to do your own research.

Too many newbies are looking for the "fastest" way or the "easiest" way to make money online. If you're really hard up for that road, look into buying traffic and sending it to CPA offers. Or buying mobile traffic and sending it to mobile offers. But guess what? You can't just jump into that. You have to learn the ins and outs of buying traffic.

You have to learn how to TRACK and convert that traffic. You have to learn to create banners or find someone who can do that for you AND then you have to change them so that you can test the changes against the control group.

Even money makers that are supposedly "easy" and "simple" take some kind of knowledge to make them work.

Don't let the allure of "easy" money get to you. Back in the late 1990s I chased after that easy money and it nearly drove me nuts. You cannot defy the fundamental business principles. Yes, every once in awhile someone gets really lucky or someone finds a "loophole" they can exploit, but most money makers become obsolete after a time.

One good way to learn marketing on the internet is to follow a few of it's leaders. There's no way around this, you've got to do your own research to find out who they are. Sure, you can ask around and you can start to notice certain trends.

As already mentioned, you are already a member of the War Room. Though there's a lot of good stuff in there it can get overwhelming for a newbie. If I were you I would spend a couple of weeks in there and take a lot of notes, writing down areas of interest for you.

What you should do is find a niche that has a specific problem and find a solution for that problem (or set of problems).

Find a serious coach or mentor.

Wanna know how I found my first mentor? I subscribed to his newsletter and I built a relationship with him. I also didn't ask for anything at first. I contact him and told him upfront that I want to learn and then I asked him if I could help him with anything.

I did that with several well-known marketers back in the late 1990s. And guess what? My hard work paid off. I was given free access to a $2,000 seminar because I got to be one of the volunteers.

I was taught how to create a basic sales funnel, how to create and launch products, but more important than all that, was that I was building my network of entrepreneurs, many of them who made a living in markets that have nothing to do with the MMO (Make Money Online) market. By helping them with some of their work, they in turn taught me a lot about marketing, consumer psychology, and guess what? I also made some great friendships.

The best advice I can give you for now is to do your research, do a lot of reading, ask a lot of specific questions (general questions usually go unanswered), and find a group of like-minded and action-minded individuals that you can team up with and you'll be surprised at how much you can accomplish in 3 to 5 years.

Don't wait for things to be perfect. Don't be afraid to launch your first business. The market has a way of telling you if they like something or if they don't. And whatever you do, resist the temptation of quitting and redirect that energy into finding solutions. Don't get into the habit of blaming outside forces, focus on what you can control, live in the moment, and avoid negative people, and your chances of success will increase a thousand fold.

I like your advice, and following on your advice: "Find a serious coach or mentor" , can you name some names or give some points? I found this forum great, but lately I found a lot of scammers here, which I hate to say, make this forum very thin ---lately. I hope, this can approve with comments and mentoring of people like you. Even simple honest advice and comments have great value for people who come here to learn.

      Thanks, Nora

  • Yes there is a lot of free information in forums but as you pointed out as a newbie it's all very overwhelming and isn't always organized in a step by step manner. That's why in school they don't just hand you a whole bunch of books and tell you to go read them.

You have a teacher and a lesson plan to follow. With that said, I say invest in a mentor and a step by step internet marketing course. Get the basics down first. Then you'll be able to better filter through all the information on the forums. Otherwise you're just going to be bouncing around without any clear direction which is going to lead to more frustration and inaction.

    I hope this helps!

    1. Pick a niche you love

    2. Build a list

    3. Create free value added content (Special Reports, White Papers, Video Content)

    4. Promote or create your own offer (Information, Software, Audio, Video, etc...)

Keep it simple and just market the hell out of it. Test and track everything and you'll know where you need to make changes to constantly improve this system.

    It really is this easy...

    Food for thought:
(Others who say it's not have never done all of these steps to the best of their ability. mainly, testing and tracking. They give up far too soon. Heck, they are always looking for something new but the truth is what are they going to do with the new stuff if they can't even make the simple stuff work?)

Simple & Easy? If you want something WORTH having it WILL NOT be simple or easy. Once you get past that and instill into yourself that you will have to do some 'hustle' things will start happening.

There is no simple and easy way to make money online. Everything depends on numerous complications.

After having basic lessons about internet marketing, start studying better every part of the system. Learn more about article marketing, email marketing, JV partners, videos, etc.

Internet marketing is a system. You have to follow many steps if you want to make sales.

You should test your skills by using free platforms like Blogger, Squidoo, Hub pages and Zujava, so that you may learn into practice how to create a blog, how to get traffic, etc, but don't create too many of these pages because they don't belong to you.

Use them for learning and testing. You will also make some money with them since they pay you something per month (except Blogger). Later you will use these pages to drive traffic to your own website, but in the beginning use them so that you may understand how to create your website, which products to promote, and a lot more.

You should always build an email list so that you may have many potential customers.

It’s also a good idea to make money by offering your services, like article writing, website building, video creation, etc. First of all, you have to learn how to do many things by reading tutorials. This money-making method is faster then selling, especially when you are a newbie. But there is competition everywhere. You have to be persistent. Good luck!
