I'm 34 years old and i was a profetionnal poker player for last 3 years and i cant stand poker anymore. Id like to get a job from home cause im suffering of panick attacks and agoraphobia wich makes it hard for me to go out and it would be hard to comeback on a regular 9-5 job after 3 years of poker.

I'm open minded regarding any job at home or start my own business, my question i dont have any online marketing experience at all and i dont really know where to start. I would appreciate if any of you could help me.

Search deep inside what you'd like to do and what you're passionate for. Then simply do some personal research. There's a lot of opportunities out there just waiting for you to grab.

Having no internet marketing experience doesn't matter. We all start somewhere. You just have to be open to learning new information that can help you grow and move forward with your business.

Sorry to hear you have agoraphobia. This disorder was the nemesis of my grandmother for much of her adult life. One of my friends is also a sufferer and I haven't seen him for years but he still keeps in touch by email (brings a whole new meaning to the term, "Digital Life"). If you're just starting out consider what it is you actually want and the kind of life you ultimately want to to live. Most people, when asked don't actually know what they want outside of a vague idea that they want "a better life" or "to make money online". A JOB is different animal to building a business - so it all comes down to what you want and what you see yourself doing. What gets you excited? What can you do that won't feel like a job and the side effect of your activity is that you also get paid? You get the idea!

At first you got to tell us what kind of skills do you have. If you don't have any practical skills, you must get coaching first.

If you played poker for three years, it would seem you had to be successful (or it was a tough three years - )

You know how many people you could teach how to play poker or teach how to get better at playing poker?

It appears to me you have a talent just waiting to monetize. That is, unless you are so sick of poker you don't even want to teach it.

Spend some time exploring this forum and learn about product creation, sales funnels, membership sites, and so forth. If you can teach others how to MAKE MONEY by playing poker, you could write your own check!

will really second this man because it is more easier for you to enter internet business from the angle you are familiar with than otherwise. So even though you will hurt you will as well gain. No matter how you can't stand something, there are millions of other people you can give the little tips you have gathered over time.

And it'll be so much fun spending your life dedicating your time to giving out tips to millions of people and hating every moment of it.

As I already said, if he could stand it, he'd be playing it and NOT here asking what to do, would he?

I would say learn how to build sales funnels and webpages, I could go into great detail on that but I'll save it for a later time if you want.
Also learn list building, I know being new online you'll see a lot of stuff promising quick money, get rich quick, blah blah blah. You'll need a list for a lot of stuff, affiliate marketing, email marketing, no matter what you get into you'll have a list of people interested in internet marketing to promote to.
Use your advertising dollars wisely, the traffic should convert and make your advertising free.
There is a lot more to internet marketing then people think which is why there is a 95% failure rate and it's easy to lose a lot of money fast.
Before joining any affiliate programs do your research and due diligence.
Another to speed up the process and eliminate the learning curve would be to get a good mentor / coach.

For the people recommending the OP goes into the Poker niche, why would he want to go into a niche he "can't stand anymore"?

And, if the OP could stand it, don't you think he'd probably still be playing it and not here looking for something else?

      Hi DoctorX79,

It seems you want to know how you can make money online?

There are many methods to make money online. Here are simplified examples of several business models:

      1. Sell things on ebay

      2. Drop shipping - Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer. So in this method you bring the customer to the wholesaler.

      3. Sell virtual or information products - this is often a favourite of internet marketers as it can be easier. You develop and ebook or video series or similar about something you know that other people would like to know (For example - how to win at poker as you seem to be good at this). And you charge them to access this.

This method often works best by providing a little bit of information for free and then advising them they can get more by paying a one off or membership fee. It might be easiest for you to start with.

      4. Affiliate marketing - Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer they bring.

For example you might let people know about a great deal using your personal link. When they click the link and buy something you can make a percentage of the sale.

      5. Buy and sell websites - a bit like buying and selling real estate.

These are just some of the many ways you can make money from home. Also on my blog I have a list of how to make quick cash when you need it.

Of course there will always be learning required but you've already found this forum which has a great community of people who are willing to help and answer your questions!

    I hear you there.

(I can't, either. And my poker skills relate only to 2-7 low triple-draw anyway. :p )

Whatever kind of online business you might decide you might want to get into, I'd stay well away from any poker-related niches, anyway, if it's something you can't stand. It really matters quite a lot in internet marketing that you do something in a niche about which you're enthusiastic/passionate, otherwise the reality tends to be that "it doesn't get done", and it can turn out to be hard to maintain.

I suggest that you try to start, if you can, by making a clear decision about whether you're looking for "a job at home" or "your own business", because they're two such radically different propositions and plans that it's pretty hard to get far beyond that without first having decided it. One means being an employee, while the other means knowing how to set up and build and run a business. Each has advantages and disadvantages, and what matters is which outweighs the other from your perspective. Someone would have to know you very well, to be able to decide to which of those two you're better suited.

    Good luck!

There is a big difference between online job and having your own online business, you need to decide which way you want to go. keep in mind starting your own business, you'll need to spend some money.
Buy there are different services you can provide to earn money, like content writing, graphic design, web developin etc etc. It now depends on your ability.

      Ditto!

And if you want to provide service, you can start today with any freelancing sites like odesk or elance. Even if you don't get any task immediately, spending time analyzing the projects will be helpful too.

I always say find something you're passionate about and use that as the core of your business. You could definitely earn money writing about and teaching people how to play poker - but if you're burned out playing it you might not want to do that for a while.
There might be other things you enjoy doing, or you might even want to take up a new hobby or learn a new skill and make that the core of your online business.
You'll find a wealth of information here, but my advice would be pick one strategy and stick with it until it makes you money, whether it's writing books for Kindle, reviewing products on Amazon.com or creating your own information products, they can all make you money if you are willing to stay focused.
    Good luck!

You need to initially have an idea of what your daily, weekly & monthly expenses are (what income level is required for my everyday survival). Then you need to determine your present skills & then do some research on whether your existing skills can be offered for a fee to provide relevant services to other internet marketers e.g graphics design, writing articles, setting up wordpress, etc. Places where you can offer such services are the warriors for hire section on the warrior forum, also websites like odesk.com or elance.com to name a few. There really are no shortcuts or quick fixes to your situation. The best thing you can do in my opinion is find a successful mentor & follow what they do. Hope I helped!

    Regards,

    Ryan.

If you need a job then get one at arise, west work at home or alpine, all three are legitimate as I worked for all three doing a case study on work at home jobs in 2006.
I did make more money on the launch of the product than I did with the companies but I think they pay 10 to 20 an hour, it depends on the campaign.

Well, if you are looking for ways to make money at home, you have found the Mecca of internet marketing.

There is so much information here that it is easy to get overwhelmed. Don't let that stop you though. Even experienced marketers can get overwhelmed at times.

My suggestion: get a notebook. Go through the forum. Take notes and write down questions.

There is no ONE way for you to succeed, which is good. Your experience and talent opens up many opportunities for you (Kindle, blogging, creating a digital product, affiliate marketing).

I know that you are burned out after years of playing poker, but you realize that all of those years can now be turned into a wealth of products related to playing poker.

    Keep me posted.

    Best wishes,

    KateD

I think before you move into something new you need to take stock of where you are and how you got there. What did you do before playing poker for a living (and did you earn a living before and while playing poker?).

Were you playing poker traditionally...or online?

Are the panic attacks and agoraphobia a long term issue you've been treated for - or the result of stress of professional gambling and a habit of being at home?

34 is young to give up and work around your phobias rather than trying to work through and get past the problems.

Working online is a viable option but you need to determine what type of work will suit you long term - a service business, creating products, selling products for others, becoming an expert in a particular niche, etc.

What do you like to talk about the most? Do you like helping and showing people how to do something such as make money, cooking.computerskills? This is one way you can come up with a niche pronounced nitch. Once you come up with a niche then you need to know how you will market that niche such as using social media such as Vimeo twitter you tube and so fourth. Or will you use sales pages or a full website or email marketing.

Tread carefully. Mentors (as this forum defines them) generally send you down the path of being a lifetime newbie.

A legitimate mentor is someone with bona fide professional experience in exactly what they are teaching. That eliminates literally every single name you will ever see recommended on this forum.

Legit mentors do not advertise their services. So what you want to do is figure out an area of online business that you want to explore and then go find someone you know for an absolute verifiable fact is successful. Then ask them if they offer consulting services for a newbie.

But I wouldn't go in that direction yet. You need to have moderate web development skills first (or have the financial ability to pay someone to build everything for you).

Ask a lot of questions on the forum. Be extremely specific. Vague questions get vague, worthless answers.

Wow this thread is a fountain of good points! Doctor no doubt you've got a lot to think on with all of the above information.

The only thing I'd add, and it's largely in support of what a number of people have mentioned, is that whatever method you use to make money make sure it's in a niche that you either have a passion for, or a high level of expertise.

There's definitely an art and a science to choosing a niche that's properly targeted, has suitable income potential and is something you can consistently do day in day out, but rest assured that nothing will motivate you more to succeed online than if you revolve your efforts around something you love doing.

This is super, super basic, but start by brain-dumping a list of all the things you really love to do (your passions) down on paper. Use a hypothetical scenario of you not having to work but having a moderate income... how would you spend your days and what would you be doing that made you the most happy and excited to leap out of bed every morning.

Once you've written that list start another which lists all of the areas that you have a high level of expertise in. You don't necessarily have to be a guru, bust just know more than many/most.

This could turn into a wall-o-text niche targeting super post but I'll just close by suggesting that you take all of the other great points in this thread and keep in mind your niche possibilities you wrote down, and how you can combine them synergistically with however you choose to monetise your online business.

      All the best!

Might also get over that phobia of yours. Maybe not to get a day job afterwards, but just to get a better life.
Heard good things about alternative medicine, hypnosis... find a good friend/someone you trust who has experience with someone near you and can give you a tip.

You have a ton of people offering you their business. And I am sure their business is a great business to be in.
But let me shine a little light on the situation. Everyone on this website is some kind of Internet Marketer. Internet Marketers, when done correctly, can make massive amounts of cash in a short amount of time.
The truth is, only 5% of people make more than 6 figures a year off their internet marketing business. If you decide to take this route, be prepared for stress, to step out of your comfort zone, fighting to keep a positive attitude, dealing with all kinds of failure, and watching out for scams!

However, working with people who think, and operate the same way I do is very rewarding. Once you get a 4 year college equivalent education in internet marketing you can live the life
    that people dream of.

Best of luck finding your job. Keep searching, you will have to find it sometime!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Here is my advice to you:
    1. Determine what you are interested in.
    2. Read the forum to learn about basic things like setting up a blog, writing content and generating traffic.

Of the three, I will suggest you start doing something, no matter how small. Even if it is just opening a free Blogger or WordPress blog.

      What's so insane about that?

That's the field I'm in and quite honestly...

It's flooded with people who can't a write a sentence to save their life...

      And they're all making money.

You just wrote "You guys telling this dude..."

And you could write online and earn a full time income.

Numbero uno: You might have a different definition of "making money" than I do. Maybe not, but I'm throwing that out there.

Numero dos: You're confusing grammatical correct-osity with poor writing. Not a good idea in this context. I'm sitting on my butt on a Saturday night, drinking vodka and watching UFC and hanging out with you on a forum. But you can probably tell I've got, not just a command of the language but a precision command of the language. Content, structure, pacing, a sense of what words create which emotions.

Plus, I'm not in the term paper business. How about you?

What about this guy's opening message here had you thinking that he is ideally suited towards being a professional writer and selling his talents and skills?

Because I could be a professional graphics designer if I put months of energy and business sense into it and outsourced some things.

But telling me to do it because you've done it is hurting me and wasting my time.

There are so many different ways to make money online. You can sell services, start a blog, make a review site, a membership site...The possibilities are endless but you should start asking yourself, "What am I good at?" and "What are my hobbies?" You can come up with some good ideas for services and products doing this, and from there you just have to start thinking about how to sell and market the product/service.

Doctorx79, I'd be willing to partner up with you on a poker membership site. This is what I do - I create membership sites on different niches. If you can write modules about poker, I can do EVERYTHING else. And if you are comfortable in front of a camera, we can do videos and even live webinars. Let me know (PM) if you are interested and I'll go over details and show you a few examples of my work.

There are many ways to make legit money online like blogging, having a private label rights store, having a membership site, flipping websites, being a service p;provider for other marketers like a ghostwriter or something and so on. You need to do some research to find out what you might be interested in, find a legit program that teaches that, and implement what you learn.

    Good luck,

That's like asking if it's a good idea to sell something on eBay. Read what I said before about vague questions.

What exactly are you going to publish?

Will you have your own promotional effort or rely entirely on search?

Will you sell it anywhere else with an affiliate program?

Is this something that could go viral on some level?

How big is the market and existing competition?

If you were that good at poker, you can write a course on how to be successful at it. You can even do a video course if you don't want to write.
Sell this for $17 or $27 per download, get some good affiliates in the niche, and you will be banking FAST profits!

Maybe im clueless about IM but you are obv clueless about poker.
Sure you can have a gambling approach playing poker, but you can also have a solid business approach and when you play poker for living you have a bankroll management you know where and what to play, you let your ego on the side and realize whos better than you or same type of player so you prob wont have any edge playing theses guys, you have a very good idea of what type of variance you will face and you set your limit accordingly but just like IM you cannot say its gambling , sure you can take a gambler approach with IM im pretty sure you can do that but you can also be wise study hard, adjust to the market, get a niche see opportunities and make $ just like poker.

Dont think poker is going to be lucrative if you dont put time and efforts to study and i assume its the same thing with IM.

If you were a profitable player and you feel you have the ability to coach others, there is much potential there. I myself hired a coach back when I was 6 tabling cash games. Marketing your skills to keep a flow of students in your pipeline would probably put you ahead of many in the crowd.

Did you play mainly cash or tournaments?

Does your record look good on PokerTableRatings or other such sites?

Hi, my name's Nuke, from Indonesia. Have STIFORP rang any bell for you? Stiforp is a online networking company based on US founded by Nauder Khazan.

Great company, never missed paying, big bonuses, even they have great system on how people can earn income up to more than $8,000 a month without sponsoring anyone and not a scam. We just need to be a bit open to see the opportunity. I believe achieving that number it's possible.

And the investment is also quite -nothing- $9.95 per month, and with this you gain access to free webinar, conference call bridges, email marketing, etc.

Great place to start! You can have a free tour inside in:

You are going to need to do some hard thinking to figure out what you want and how you want to get there. I would recommend the following.

      Read these books:
The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss
The $100 Start Up by Chris Guillebeau
      Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk

      Check out these sites:
smartpassiveincome.com - Pat Flynn (also has a great podcast)
nichepursuits.com - Spencer Hawes (also has a great podcast)
bensettle.com - Ben Settle - killer direct response email info
The Copywriting Grab Bag - Ben Settle's older site, sign up for the email list so you can download and read the free ebook, it has killer info in it
entrepreneurboost.com - Chris Guthrie (also has a great podcast)

Throw all of this info into the blender of your mind and then come back here when you have a clearer vision of which direction you want to go.

Learn quick, be open to all advice.. but do your own research. Dont over complicate things, you dont need to learn how to do html coding for websites etc.. all you need is something to sell for example a clickbank product.. (which you are passionate about) and somewhere to advertise it in a positive way.. that helps people who are already thinking of purchasing the product you are selling.. YouTube is a great way to to do this, you can easily generate 200 targeted visitors per month per video that you make, and if you don't want to make the video's yourself you can outsource the work and get someone else to do it for you, im not going to post any links though because I don't want to be seen as a spammer im just trying to help.. i hope you succeed with your business online

I, too, have been looking for something to do from home for years!! It seems that all I can find are mlm's or programs that want you to host a webpage, do binary trading or other similar things. Then, once you think what the heck, I'll try it, you go to the next page and they want more money...that I don't have.

It gets really frustrating, as all I'd like to do is something I can do from home that isn't going to cost a fortune to start too. I'm a fairly good writer, so I may look into some of the suggestions that were put here. I DID read this whole thread!!

Oddly enough, my passion is baking! I never thought about doing anything with it, other than just the baking itself. I started when I was only 12 years old and it's something I really enjoy. I've used cookies and cakes as a bartering tool many times with neighbors and service people that I know... Countless themed birthday cakes when my children were young for them and their friends.....

The last time I had someone fix my air conditioning, I made him orange shortbread cookies. He actually ate all 4 dozen right there that day!! I was amazed, but he told me they were the best that he ever had!! Such a compliment. He loved them so much that he decided that is what I should be doing. The next morning, he sent me an email where he had designed a business card for me, along with naming the company and all!! As of only Sept 17th, I now have a facebook page for it, but the website isn't ready yet. I'm sort of at a loss as to what to put there, even though I've been baking now for more than 40 years!!

Would love any opinions and/or advice as to how I can make money with "it" instead of constantly trying to find something else online. If you want to see what I do, my facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/She-B...1010708?ref=hl

He named me: She Bakes, etc lol

Thanks for this thread!! You all gave me a lot to think about!! Just wish I could make a little money real soon!!

This is a very exciting time for you when discovering IM, I remember my first time.

My best advice to you is, do not jump on the first thing you see, if you like it, post and ask WF members to take a look at it, I guess someone here would have bought it.

2nd advice, read though posts and learn.

3rd, take action. Start to blog and create some videos (search on WF on how to create video). Action is the hardest part of IM and continuing to stick with it, dont fall into that bracket.

    All the best my friend

Hi nice to meet you sorry about what is happening in your life, but like they say everything happens for a reason. There are a lot of online marketing careers that you can jump in too. You will need money to make money, so start with research on "newbies" for affiliate marketing. From there see what kind of budget you can start with, get in contact with a newbie friendly network and your account manager should be able to guide the way for you! Good luck.
