Hotel affiliate programmes

Is anyone aware that some hotel chains (IHG, Hilton) have hidden code in their adverts that direct visitors on our sites to a competitor "Roomkey"?

It is crazy! You place the ad hoping to have a sale and get a commission, but as soon as the visitor presses the ad, a popup from Roomkey comes up telling the visitor to think again and book with them!

Any ideas, and what can be done?

Thanks

What you refer to is just one example of the many potential "payment leaks and difficulties" involved in being an affiliate in the travel industry.

I decided that all I could do was choose the specific things I promoted, in that industry, with great care and consideration to all potential "payment leaks", including the fact that customers will often investigate online, but prefer actually to book by telephone, after/while speaking to a real live person. I think it's a very problematic industry, in many ways, for affiliates.

At the end of 2008, only a few months after I started, with great interest in travel niches because it was something I could easily write about, I reduced the "travel stuff" I promoted as an affiliate to only two specific "items", and I still promote only one of those, now.
