Hi
Apologies in advance if this question is either plain dumb or been covered extensively elsewhere. I've trawled through a fair few previous threads, using keywords such as 'webmail' etc, but I still just can't seem to get my head around it.......

Key Points:

- my domain is hosted at Hostgator
- it is an add-on domain
- I have set up some email addresses therein
- my business is going to be low client numbers/high margin
- I don't expect to ever have more than 500 - 1000 active clients
- I will not be sending out never-ending streams of marketing emails
- I will not be using affiliates
- All clients will double opt-in
- There will be 2 or 3 of us running the business, from different locations, and using different platforms, so......
- I need to access my email from multiple locations
- I need to access my email via multiple platforms, including mobile ones

So, the questions are:

- do I need a client email programme, or is direct access only through Hostgator going to work ok in practise? I've seen a few people on here say "no" to Hostgator only access.

- I'd prefer to have all of the email stored on a server, and then accessed by whoever from wherever, rather than download to pc etc, so does this mean IMAP rather than POP3, or does using webmail actually just bypass that question entirely? One last thing; the guy who is going to be sitting on customer support etc does NOT like Outlook!

- I've opened an aWeber account, but do I actually need an auto responder, given the comparatively low levels of outgoing and incoming mail, and if I do need one, then should I use a free one such as MailChimp, or even self host?

Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.
