Stupid Fiverr Buyers - I think I quit.

I don't know about you but I'm close to quit Fiverr.

Even with a clear and extensive description , buyers just can't get it right.

They always order the 5 bucks GIG with stuff which would need the extra GIG, and usually think that you have to do it for 5 bucks as ordered.

Last ridiculous request I've got was a guy which gave me link to a Youtube video with over 45 minutes (in English) and told me that he wanted this same video in Portuguese language.

So he want a transcription from a video - 45 minutes
A translation from that into Portuguese
A recording from that translated script
A matching edition from the video.

For 5 bucks

I charged him 200 bucks, even that was a cheap price but I knew he didn't want to pay that.

I guess I give up to offer stuff at Fiverr. I already took down my testimonial GIG's as they took all on average 1 hour+ to complete.

I anyhow didn't fell good to FAKE a testimonial, can get you in troubles as far as I see it.

Your thoughts

I know I may get flamed on this but.....

Isn't it kind of telling with all the claims people in IM make about making all kinds of real money that so many people here still have to resort to haggling over jobs that pay $4?

That fiverr comes up so often here is a sad commentary on internet marketing

The other thing is why be amazed or surprised about the customers you get at places like that? Are they called bestservicerr.com concentrating on quality or fiverr based on lowest price?

Of course its market for cheap people who believe their five dollars are worth far more than your time and service.

Some buyer do not read the description, they place the order and ask you to do the extra work without buy the extra gig. Usually, in this situation, I will request to cancel the order to save our times.

                Exactly.

When I get a buyer who asks me for more than is in the gig description, I give them 2 choices :

                1. Agree to cancel the order.
                or
                2. Tell them they need buy 1 or 2 more orders of the gig depending on what they want, since they are asking for extra stuff.

I wholeheartedly concede to the above.
My experiences with Fiverr have been mixed.
IMHO you seriously cannot run a business on Fiverr

I totally agree with you but the funny part is that I actually didn't do it for the money.

I like to work and what I do but I seriously HATE it when a cheap offer like a FIverr still get abused and people play stupid.

Today I got an order to make a promo video. The description states clearly that I need 8 ready to publish slides and a short intro and outro text with max 2 lines.

I have a sample video at YT which shows the video so there is or at least should be NO questions.

I have an extra GIG if the buyer wants me to produce the slides in case those are not ready to use.

Client orders the basic GIG and send me 10 images, a bunch of text and tells me that he wants to have them all in the video.

As this is a Express Gig I replied after about 2 hours, explaining for clarification - no response at all.

All I could do is asking for cancellation - time wasted.

Wasted time is worse then getting only 4 bucks so I think that I skip Fiverr as a seller.

That is a phenomenon pretty much found here on Warriors only and is not from my personal experience that of those that work with clients and customers outside of forums.

I used to struggle to make money here on WF too, a lot of it was due to mind set perpetuated from within this community. Stick around it too much and you adopt the mindset. You do take on the attitudes and thinking of those you hang around the most after all.

Once I left these forums and hung around real business professionals, I mean in person with those that have demonstrated success cars, houses, vacations etc... The complaints talked about here are pretty much isolated to here and those that think in similar fashion.

Sure, there are people making money here on WF but the vast majority don't and won't. Just a fact. I have 16 or so years experience on the Warrior Forum and dealing with people from here, to back that opinion up.

Isn't a bash the WF thing or the people here. It is just a vastly different experience when you get out of here and deal with clients and customers that have money and willing to spend it on YOUR services.

Most of the stuff here on WF is how to make money and get leads from HERE. Most people come here to learn and figure out how to make money but get trapped into the machine Allen built.

There comes a time when all is said and done the advice and information you follow either works and you get somewhere or it doesn't and you don't. At that point you need to reevaluate the direction you want to go and if the vehicale you have chosen is going to get you there or not.

Don't get caught up into the me too or follow along crowd, when your bills aren't being paid and you can't afford to put food on the table.

Fiver is a cheap way to get inexpensive services. I would NEVER base a business around it. Use it when starting out to build a name and reputation and follow it with your regular services as upsells. It's like a cheap calling card or try before you buy type of thing, fiver. Don't freaking live there and expect to make thousands a week doing 5 dollar gigs. Math doesn't add up.

Maybe blessed or maybe it´s because the few gigs I offer there (Very Few) are very straight-forward and easy to understand what will be given.

I also always over-deliver and give a couple of free bonuses too, so that helps a lot to keep everybody happy.

I don´t do Fiverr as a serious money making venture.

The gigs I offer are things I can deliver with only a few minutes of my attention / effort. So nearly 4 bucks (after Fiverr and Paypal take their cut) for only 5 or 10 minutes of my time, is worth doing, IMHO

Some people earning $50,000 to $300,000 daily in their online ventures would not waste their time with Fiverr, but not all of us are at that level yet...

4 bucks for 10 minutes of work is equal to 24 bucks an hour.... more than twice my hourly wage at the last regular job I had (several years ago).

Plus I can get many of those buyers into my sales funnel...

    Hi,
I order from Fiverr. Just make sure the person understands that you cannot do what he was asking you to do for $5. He has to pay you first, so don't do the gig. If he's that cheap, then he deserves what he gets.

From my experience, there are different types of buyers. But yours could be the worse case which I never experienced before and that's ridiculous IMO. Educated buyer knows what they're supposed to get out of the $5 order. Everything was spelled out clearly on the offer page and unless they bother to spend 10 seconds to read, they would be expecting a Ferrari while the fact they are just paying for a mountain bike.

I got ye beat for stupidity... I doubt this can be topped.

I had a gig ages ago, where, I had a video of Time Square in New York, with people walking by a huge billboard.

The gig was that I would superimpose your advertisment, logo, picture on the billboard.

I think the title of the gig confused this 1 guy, "Your Picture, Logo on a Huge Billboard in Time Square"

He wasn't happy when I sent him his video... he was expecting an actual huge billboard advertisment in Time Square, for $5.

Still makes me smile... ye, there's some funny people out there.

Yea I used to sell in there too and you can get some crazy requests lol. I'll tell you what, I always use to add "Make sure you contact me before we work together" and people would msg me and i'd hit them with a few gigs usually and half the time people would bite so I rarely did $5 gigs.

With this said, the reason I wanted a msg was not to manipulate them into paying more but to try and sell them a better service <--I say this incase the haters decide to chime in.

If you can get someone to msg you and you use some good salesmanship and show them you are the real deal and will provide quality work alot of people will buy for more than the usual measly $5..

On the other hand I had people who would buy with ridiculous requests like this yours as well and I would simply email the fiverr help desk and tell them this gig is out of the range of what I do for this gig, and they would always remove it because I had a good rating and when I delivered people loved it.

    bwh1,

I hear what you are saying about not doing it for the money, and actually enjoying creating the gig. From my experience in working with clients in IM is that sometimes when I like the project too much, and I try to be cool with the client and really give them a low ball offer that they can purchase - it turns out not to be such a great experience.

People are demanding, and if you are already going as low as you can possibly go in charging for your services - it can very well backfire. Sometimes is better not to be the most affordable deal around - also, always give clear instructions up front on what you are going to deliver.

As clear as you try to be, you're always going to run into bad experiences with clients. One of these bad experiences for me, was with someone who didn't speak good English in order to communicate well, and that person didn't even know much about computer/internet skills (like how to open a zip file or even a folder file), was never around, and demanded things when I was finally able to get in contact with that person.

Guess what? Dealing with all of this created so much more work that I wasn't expecting. It took much more time and energy.

Anyways, with experience, you learn to calibrate better.

    All the best.

This is one of the FUNNIEST threads I've come across regarding insane and stupid people on the net.

To quote what someone else said..."stop fishing in the sewer' is right, however...I used Fiverr as a mini WSO platform to build a list and get coaching clients.

I also landed some one on one interviews with some heavy hitters that actually paid me to work with them.

    Anyone know Perry Marshall?

He paid me, after finding me on fiverr, to review the book he just launched "80/20 Sales and Marketing" and that led to an hour long interview I did with him for an upcoming product I'll be releasing here shortly.

The moral of the story: Fiverr is just another traffic platofrm and for those that use it right, you can build yourself a list of paid buyers aka a buyers list, build up credibility for y9our offerings, and if you play your cards right, you can actually make a full time income doing 3 minute work.

The trick is you can't be offering stuff that takes you time to complete.

You have to offer one and done, set and forget type gigs like
    -Teach you how
    -show you how
    -templates

Nothing custom or that takes time.

The other thing you have to do, which I call the "Ace up your sleeve method" is to always incentivize positive feedback.

One way (of MANY) is to offer "Buy 2 Get One Free" type of incentives, but make it a requirement that you get positive feedback.

    The other thing to consider....

Fiverr's "Featured Sellers" listing is actually to benefit fiverr...not the seller.

The featured sellers are the ones that offer all those crazy "I'll sing your business jingle while wearing a banana suit" type gigs that require insane amounts of time, etc.

The folks making the big bucks on fiverr are all offering automated and quick fire gigs.

I interviewed fiverr's top seller, who at the time, was making nearly $20,000 a month of fiverr selling social backlinks.

He was never featured on page one....never been to the warrior forum....

He just figured out that fiverr was a buyers traffic source that he could siphon and he did.

    Its quite amazing actually.

I know there are toxic folks looking to pick your bones dry if they can for little or no money, but if you do this right...fiverr, and many other niche sites I've been working with are awesome for lead generation.

There are ways, by the way, to build a list using fiverr without violating their TOS, which is exactly what I did.

Built a list of 300 people, made a 30 day case study of how I made $100 a day and then went on to sell more to the list than I made on the front.

Hope that was helpful and hope it gave you some great ideas.

Sorry for your struggles...and good luck finding your stride.

    Regards

    Los

I've only run across two idiots

A lady who didn't know what a metatag was and complained when I filled the order asking what that was

A guy who, as you stated, didn't read the directions and tried to get me to do a sales page for $5.00 when I had clearly raised my prices.

My experience is that someone who gets "stupid buyers" usually has not explained the offering as clearly as he believes he has.

It's best to take "stupid questions" or "stupid objections" as a sign that you need to explain more or explain better.

Just let me get something straight here.

I'm in sales for over 30 years and learned early that there ain't no stupid QUESTIONS or OBJECTIONS.

So if a potential buyer comes to me and ASK first, then he certainly is not "stupid", actually the contrary as he ask for clarification before he buys what's a smart move.

What I told was that even by offering a description and a video explaining the GIG I get orders which don't follow the guidelines.

And I know that those descriptions are clear because 9 out of 10 clients get it and send the correct items.

So to answer to another poster above, I have or had some success at Fiverr with several GIG's with daily orders. Actually it got worse after they switched to the new design, god knows how.

If you think there asking to much just tell them that's what i do, if they want to cancel there order then let it be its up to them if they expect 5000 posts for $5 or like unlimited web hosting for $5 then tell them no simple answer.

Buyers usually send mass messages. That's when I always try to reply fast to any message and show them I'm willing to do everything they want customized.. but they'll need to pay much more than the regular $5 , else they can wait for other buyers to reply, thus slowing down their project. Most people are impatient, so they'll go with me at my price. When the buyer is confused or asks "stupid questions" I think that's an opportunity to charge them a nice fee

Guys, I am a newbie to IM but I have been an eBay Powerseller for 10 years so I am not that naive to the industry but I think the general impression of fivrr is that it is chock full of people from 3rd world countries to whom $5 is cool with them and more of a payday than they can get in their homeland.

I know better and I have no problems paying someone what they are worth but if you search fivrr for any length of time you will find so many offers that validate the stereotype. I think this causes the confusion for many IM newbies and well IM cheap skates....

I have to chime in here.....had a friend of mine that wanted an adsense site and the description actually said "Adsense sites to your liking" that they would be created for $5 bucks. Now me on the other hand would say heck no....but some people tend to believe small blessings happen. By the time she expressed what she wanted he told her $280 bucks now that is when I got confused.....why would you post adsense sites to your likings for $5 bucks if you did not mean it? Some suppose to think that most have common sense but verbage is verbage.....never assume anything in business....be factual. I have seen this many times. Now, I have to admit....I have used fiver services for clickable ads that convert....common sense to me to pay five bucks rather than ask someone here in warrior for hire and pay them $45 for the same thing? Makes sense to me. But, I have also seen people come on the fiver site to build reputation and then have everyone transfer over to their main site for continued service once they are branded for the work they are known for doing so well at a discount of course. I don't think fiverr is for cheap skates....I think it is for smart business people who look for quality at all levels and you can find some diamonds in fiver especially for social media, ad creations, banner creations, video creations type stuff....even heard some people say that they like certain SEO guys from there. So....it depends on who you reaching out to on fiverr. Just my two cents

Thanks for bumping that thread, maybe someone else having a funny story to share.

By the way, I cancelled all my Video and Testimonial GIG's as they took way to much time to produce.

But is was worth the experience, got me acting more secure in front of a camera.

Sales stopped completely, still have several GIG's there, now mainly Lead and Graphic GIG's but no sales at all.

Basically, you get $3.92 per gig. Those take several hours so you are making a lot less than minimum wage. Try approx 50 cents an hour and that is if you are lucky because customers keep wanting more changes and you must give it to em. Also, FIVERR holds on to my money 20 days and I have been with them two years. Paypal only hold me money three days and that is too long as it should be three seconds in our digital age. Well, on the plus side, I can say that FIVERR has allowed me to meet lots of people and is great to gain exposure.

It happened also to me on Fiverr... I delivered a keyword research with 5 files from 5 different software, and I selected the top 20 keywords. I sold well, but at the end I saw people who wanted keywords study requiring hours and hours of work.

I think there's nothing to do, it's part of the percentage of people coming to purchase the gig you're selling

Some buyers on Fiverr do take the mic. They don't realize that you will make $4 after Fiverr's commission. It's not worth the headache.

I had a buyer ignore 'Instructions to buyer' so I requested the info again but then the questions started coming in. There were 11 emails exchanged for a dam $4 job and 2 hours of wasted time.

      You bet...

Man, thought that this thread was dead,

After I stopped my testimonial Gig's which took way to much time for 4 bucks (can't understand those happy faces at Voiceover and Testominal video Gig's) my sales at Fiverr vanished.

Sold a PLR article package a few weeks ago, after a long period of nothing.

Had to confirm that I'm still interested to keep my account what was somehow funny as a Level 1 seller with some funds left over.

My Gig's helped me to get better at making videos so I don't regret that I offered them, but I feel way better when I don't have to work underpaid.

Fact is that you shouldn't sell yourself short and always go for what you'r worth unless you have another objective with your offer like welfare, or learning something to get better at it etc...

Let me guess, Fiverr is running special discount offers refunding the $1 dollar they keep from a sale.

So you buy for 25 bucks and get back 5 as credit, 1 Free Fiverr.

It might be that they face some drop in sales to run 20% discount offers?

I'm a dsigner on fiverr, so far in 1 year I made 9 thousand, which is pretty cool in my opinion.

One thing that I have noticed is that $5 customers are the hardest ones to satisfied, not all of them but maybe 40% of the $5 customers are a @&$&@&.

Most of my customers spend $10, $15, $20, $40, and after the deliver they even send another $5 or $10 tip.

Dosen't matter what you sell on fiverr, one day or another you are going to face @&$&@@& customers, my advice is, cancel the order and move on....

So, you decide to hang your shingle at fiverr, a site that specializes in $5.00 work and a customer that expects quality work for $5.00 is an a$$hole.

My friend, when you are a designer on fiverr, the average gig is $10 or $12 per gig, if your average is $5 I can't do anything.

I've never said anything about hanging shingle at fiverr, I just mentioned that 40% of the $5 orders that I get are from customers which don't read the description and expect too much for $5.

Fiver holds my money for twenty days and pay pal three days - wow. Eventually, it gets to my bank account, but it is a pain. Like you wait 23 days to get $3.92 per gig. Glad that I am not getting as many gigs now. Still, this is not the end of the road for me. I pay approx 40% in taxes so I only get to keep $2.35 per gig. Read it and weep.
