I have downloaded the screen capture program CamStudio. Did a small test with it. Worked fine but the 2 min 18 sec video was 1.7 GB Is this normal? The videos will be hosted on the web so I guess it would be OK but is there any way to get that down? The videos I am planning will be 30 min. or less.

Thanks
Scott

    Certainly seems abnormal.

The best free screen capture software I've used is Active Presenter (no aff)

I own a copy of camtasia, but I use this program now because I find the videos come out much crisper. It has some amazing features for a free program and rivals camtasia on almost all levels.

What I do is record my video, save it as AVI, and then run it through Handbrake (no aff) to produce a perfect MP4 file that's ready to go onto youtube or onto my website.

    Hope that helps you out.

Yeah, I use CamStudio too. Handbrake is good. I also use Freemake Video Converter. This is especially helpful if you want to edit in any Adobe products such as Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere. For whatever reason, I have found that there is a compatibility issue with CamStudio and Adobe. But Freemake Video Converter makes all the difference.

Scott - You can reduce the quality of the video - that will reduce the overall file size. As will production dimensions. 1.7GB for 2 mins 18 secs is insane. What kind of video footage are you rendering? As an example I have a 3.5 minute video which is around the 100mb mark which you can easily get down to 50mb with a couple of adjustments.
