When I Am At My Most Productive

Now I will tell you when I seem to get most of my best ideas for writing but I do not want you to follow my route for obvious reasons.

So when I am trying to think of new ideas of new material to include in the many guides I write I .......

Walk down to the local restaurant smoking on the way, when I get there I order a cappuccino and while I am enjoying drinking it, usually with four sugars I start thinking about what I want to write about.

In fact the truth is that often even when I am not in the process of creating something new ideas come to me which is great.

I then pull out the notebook I always carry and jot down my ideas.

Yes, Yes this is old school as I could use a laptop or other device but writing this way works for me so I will not change I guess.

When I have walked home, smoking again, I put the thoughts and ideas onto my laptop.

Now one other thing with me I can be in any situation, watching TV, eating a meal etc when an idea just seems to pop into my head, it could just be a great headline to use or a brand new idea for something to create and I just jot the info down to use later.

Now you may or may not find this post of help to you but I have been asked many times where I get my ideas from so there you are.Do you have any routine you follow to generate ideas?

i can vouch for this. I started assigning myself a daily quota of 10 new ideas about six months ago. Now I have a notebook full of the things (most of them are bad, but there enough good ones in there to make it more than worthwhile.

It really is like a muscle, and it's amazing how your ideas combine with one another in interesting ways.

I don't receive emails from many sites/bloggers, but one place I'll likely ALWAYS receive emails from is called SpringWise.

Many haven't heard of it. Some have.

For over a year now, I've been receiving their emails.

In each, they highlight one (or a few) new emerging business ideas.

....I even went so far as making a separate folder just to keep and house all these emails.

I feel like reading those emails have definitely helped me to think about things differently and...yes, be more productive.

Just today, they featured a new product, with origins out of, I believe, Lithuania....it was a chair that essentially grew with a child from something like 8 months old to 10 years old. Pretty awesome. Having a little kiddo myself, I'm really contemplating getting one of them.

Of course, it'll likely make you think "why didn't I think of that?"...lol

Great ideas often come to you when you are in a relaxed state. I often get ideas in the shower and when I am swimming/walking around the park (which has a big pond in the middle of it). There is something about water - at least for me! Changing scenery so you are not always working in the same room/position also helps.

Mine is usually at 2:00 am, which is unfortunate since I still work a full time job.

I like to take walks around my neighborhood, usually with some light classical music playing on my ipod. I like to bring a small notebook (the kind that easily fits in your pocket, about the same size as an iphone) and a pen with me, to jot down anything that I come up with. Ideas also come to me while in the bathroom, and of course late at night when my creative juices really start flowing.

Know what your talking about how random ideas pop into your head at the most unexpected time. Most of the time, not all of the time, the idea will stick with me even if I don't write it down. Imagine most others have the same experience. Other times I may lose the idea.

You are right in that as a writer you should always carry something to jot down your ideas on. It's just insurance against those times when you forget that brilliant idea that crossed your mind when you went out to buy those M & M chocolate brownies at the convenience store.

My best ideas usually infiltrate my brain while I'm embarking on my 45 min to an hour drive commute to where I work. Nope, I haven't yet cut that part of my life off. Until one can completely relinquish that aspect of their life (i.e. working for the man...), you simply do what you can to work on your business, whenever you can. My trusted pen and paper are my best friends. There have been times where I've had such compelling ideas that I literally had to pull over to the side of the road to write them down, before I forgot them. One thing is for sure, I absolute love the pursuit of the dream.....not to mention, I genuinely like helping other people learn from my own past successes and failures. It's nice when that can all come together.
