Real Name vs. Company Name In Emails

I am writing a new ebook that I will give away through a squeeze page, and I will be sending follow up emails through Aweber.

I want to know if I should use my real name as the name in my follow up emails or should I use a "company name" which in this case is also the name of the ebook.

Thanks,
Mike S.

Just my personal experience..I sign up for a lot of email newsletters. I know them by their product name or subject matter. I get confused when I get an email from a personal name that I don't recognize. Especially if the subject line doesn't match the genre. So, with that in mind, I have always made my emails for my products from the business(or ebook) name. It seems to work.

My advice is to pick what you want to brand with the most prominence.

It doesn't matter what it is.

But make sure you brand it.

So, if you want to brand your business name? Go with that.

If you want to brand your name? Go with that.

The thing is; just never let people forget who (or what) you are.

If they forget you... Nothing good will happen.

So... Pick one, and run with it.

With you real name, or pseudo name (or persona), you would "be a person" to which your buyer may feel more comfortable. Personally, I like to keep my real self separate from my business as much as possible. I really like the idea of using a pen name, which in many respects could be considered a brand.

You could also include your name above your company name, so hopefully there would be eventual recognition of both. So, including your name with your product could be very helpful as well. "Bob Smith, creator of the such-and-such widget"

That depends on your squeeze page and goals. You want to be familiar and consistent to your subscriber. If you you introduce yourself in your squeeze page, then let them know it's you, the owner, and invite feedback and conversation.

Think about what you are going to do with future projects on this one. Do you want to brand your company name (cold) or brand you (hot) as the expert behind the company?

Is your role going to be mostly passive or actively engaging in the growth of your company?

I say that if you believe in your idea that you take ownership and give your reader good value and a memorable experience in each of your follow up messages. Evaluate each message you want to send and give them a piece of your spirit while inviting them to engage and give you a piece of theirs.

Chose the company name if you want to make a brand popular instead of yourself, people don't care who you are. They want good quality products and they trust the companies, not the people.

^I'm not sure I agree with that one: 'they trust the companies, not the people". There are a lot of people in this business who brand themselves with their name; Tiff Lambert springs to mind immediately. I can't always remember the name of her products or her store but as soon as her name appears in my inbox I open the email and read it.

Name recognition can cut both ways. There are more than a few names (and the list keeps growing) where I know that if that name is on the email, it's a waste of time or worse. If I see the name, I delete the email unread.

If you brand the company name and step in it, you have a chance to mend your ways and start over.

It depends really. If your name is mentioned in the ebook or anywhere on the squeeze page I would say go for your personal name, but then company name work better if you want to stay incognito.

    Depends...

If the ebook that you are writing is under your name, then it would make sense to send out emails with your name.

If you want to kill two birds with one stone you could put your name, and the name of the company in the follow up emails. That way, your list gets use to seeing your company name so that if you ever decide to sell your list for others to use, you can just put in your company name, and people would still be accepting of your emails.

    Hi,
By all means use your real name. Be authentic and let people get to know you. It's difficult to connect with a company name and you want people to connect with you.
    Good luck!

When you brand yourself do you plan on using your company name or real name.
    Be consistent is all.
