What's HOT For Programming These Days?

I'm a computer programmer with over 25 years of experience. I've developed in everything from COBOL and PASCAL to .NET and JAVA to HTML and JavaScript to Php and MySQL. I'm interesting in expanding my portfolio to build something for the online community so I can sell it and supplement my income. The question is, what?

It seems that there are a "gazillion" WordPress Themes and a "gazillion more" WordPress PlugIns. Not sure if there is still a need for those...

I'm not sure what would be the best place to focus my talents on. In other words "what's HOT". If it's computer related I can pretty well create it so no problems in terms of me learning technology and such. I just don't want to waste my time building something that nobody wants enough to pay for...

So, can anyone help me? What is it that you would personally like to see developed or see a "burning desire" for these days?

Thanks

I find the need for custom applications in WP. Sure there's a lot of free/paid stuff out there, but client needs are always specific.

I just started launching my own websites, rather than work for people.

Clever wp plug-ins will always be in demand. When I was doing freelance programming I made most of my money from mobile apps to Warriors, but it looks like your skills are fairly based around web dev.

You mentioned Java though, so if you have any Android phones you might want to try out making some mobile apps, there's quite a bit of demand for them still.

Go to jvzoo, warriorplus, zaxaa and search, see ;what software is selling good, or half way decent study the scene, then make one that does all that an more if you want an all in one solution that is. If you just want to pump out programs then just find any software about six months old and make it better, a launch has about a six month life span, so sell something today and six months later you can do just as good on the same product.

Similar to this, you could contact those people who are launching software and doing well already and tell them you're a programmer. This might allow you to partner with them and launch something together. It's a good strategy if you don't have any experience launching products.

Like clockwork, this question is almost posted weekly. I would be surprised if you had done any searching on this forum and not come up with many of these questions in the process.

Posting a question like this is lazy and not market research.

I have tons of software ideas. Why? Well, I know the market. I have went through many of the processes my customers have gone through.

How can you create something quality when you don't know how people work? That would be one of those rhetorical questions.
