dont get traffic, go to where your traffic is, on forums, blogs, groups, media buys etc etc.

Also try press releases, we have had massive massive success with these.

Again do not get traffic, go and put your messages or help those in your most likely places where you most likely custom or prospects hang out. Not only is this easy to make sales, you will learn lots about what is hot in your target market, and what is NOT HOT at the same time.

When getting traffic targeted traffic is always better.

Also learn to build a list with your traffic.

Blog and forum posting is a good, free method. But it is time consuming. On an ongoing basis. SEO needs work upfront and traffic keeps coming for a long time. Paid ads require the least amount of time but require more cash. So, in the end it is a trade-off of either using your time or your money. With all methods, there are always smarter methods to get more for your time or your cash.

How are you guys getting follow through? The issue I am having w/my current page is not getting the traffic but making them come back and not just "leech" (read the article, maybe a couple more from outbrain, and then not come back unless I post another article on forums / reddit / etc?)

For me it's organic social & search, all the way.

Celente made an excellent point: find out where your target market hangs out, and meet them where they are.

Organic takes a while and your blog has to be established. So I personally don't like it too much considering my blog is not even a year old yet.

        I respectfully disagree.

It's what got my newest affiliate blog off the ground in a niche where I'm totally unknown - and fast. Organic marketing is super easy, free, and I personally get quick results. It grows exponentially on it's own, done right from the beginning.

Also, this thread was not specifically about the "fastest" way to build traffic. It was an open discussion on the #1/Best way - which is asking for personal opinion & experience.

With my new blog, I focused on two things: long tail keyword targeting and strategically building a social reach (ie getting connected & getting super targeted followers).

If you target super specific long tail keyword phrases, and especially information searches (vs commercial - such as product names & models), it's easy enough to get those posts ranking fast.

The key is to build up the readership first - so getting comments, likes, +1's, shares, retweets, etc is the goal. Google notices positive engagement and "buzz". The more activity, and the longer people are on your site, the better your pages/posts will rank - period.

(I'm trying to keep this short, so feel free to ask any follow-up questions)

Thanks lynn I am a veteran in the field and made many mistakes, and many successes also. Tis all part of this game.

The thing for me, as i am involved in many niches is basically test, test, and test again. I think FRANK KERN once said are are not really marketers, we are people who test marketing strategies, and normally 2 outta 10 of them will win.

So you can see why most people will try 1 or 2 ways to get traffic and GIVE up thinking they have failed. While I have tried more than 10 ways to get traffic, I have tested till I have gone blue in the face, and even with a blue face I have tested even more till my hands are wore down to the bone. So my post above is based on what I find best.

For me it is MEDIA buys on forums, blogs, and high traffic sites. Also PPC, as most people will tell you PPC sucks, dont do it, but I know a millionaire here in Australia, and he has never and will never use FREE traffic. He pays for his, and has built a massive list with paid traffic. He brings in over $100k (that profit) each month. He loves paid traffic.

I also agree, you either have to make a sacrifice with traffic.

FREE TRAFFIC - is good, but you need to sacrifice your time. You will save money, but you can never get your time back. Always remember that.

PAID TRAFFIC - is not GOOD, ITS EFFIN' fantastic, cause it targeted. but for paid traffic, you need to sacrifice some MONEY. YOu need to test too but traffic and results come quicker. You will SPEND money, but you will save a SHIPLOAD of hours of time and energy posting.....again this time you can never get your time back. Always remember that.

So weigh up the pro's and cons and remember PAID traffic is better, and all the very very highly successful entrepreneurs I know online, do not go for FREE they go for paid traffic and KILL it online, its how I have done well over the years...with PPC and MEDIA buys, they rock if you know what you are doing.

dont go cheap or you get cheap / dismal results.

We use MEIDA BUYS on bigger sites, forums, communities.

But to answer your question, if we are doing PPC. You need to go to the big guns that will guarentee you get the best results. Now the best and highest quality traffic does not mean you will kill it, I have seen many horror stories with PPC, the reason is that for quality paid traffic you need to pay more!.... So that you know we use.....

          - BING / YAHOO

          - MS ADCENTER

          - GOOGLE PPC ADS (by far our best)

There are others out there, but our businesses do best with these....and you will want to stick to the ones that will bring in quality traffic and subscribers.

For best effects, make sure you are sending traffic to an optin / squeeze page. By doing this, you will guarentee better results. That is what we have found, building a list through PPC has made us tens of thousands of dollars $$ :-) and building a list is the best asset anyone can have for their online business. :-)

Cant believe I gave away this stuff to you guys, but is my way of giving back, and hope it helps you make some money.

Interesting way to put it. I consider myself less a "marketer" and more an Influencer or market leader. My goal with my niche sites is to serve my market. (Credit to Frank's old buddy, Ed Dale, for that term.)

This could open up a really fun and interesting debate, actually.

Paid marketing takes time too. There's a serious investment of time AND money to test and tweak campaigns and conversions. Especially upfront. The same goes for organic/free marketing strategies - except it's only time invested upfront, with exponential returns (vs linear with paid). You have to keep paying to keep paid traffic sources flowing. Not the case with organic.

I think it was 9 years ago that I switched from paid to organic. I'm not against paid traffic in ANY way, and will use it anytime I need to test or boost. That said, I prefer a more passive source of revenue.

Earlier this year I had surgery, which was meant to be a simple procedure with a quick recovery. I was sick for 8 months leading up to it, and unfortunately had a complication and a bad reaction that landed me on bed rest for two solid months - with my cognitive function affected dramatically for almost five months. During that time my traffic & income remained steady - organic traffic is a very solid source, done right, which suits my lifestyle (which is usually travel, not bed rest lol).

Anyone who has ever done a paid marketing campaign will agree there is definitely a time investment there too. Tweaks, policy changes, platform updates, tracking stats & improving performance, etc.

I agree with all that, but with organic, it is not scalable really. Well not as quick as paid traffic.

Also with paid traffic, with a CLICK of you MOUSE button you can turn traffic, either on or OFF, and you have control to floods and floods of it.

I think my main message is here, that there really is no right or wrong way to do traffic, or the strategies that I am getting at. You have to choose one or two right for you and get good at it. The better you get, the easier it become to get targeted traffic to your site. Once you see that, sales, subscribers, relationships build and from there, sales will come.

Traffic is merely a way to get someone over to your community, then you have to keep them there and offer value, cause its the sale you are after....so traffic is just a teeny tiny aspect in all of this. But I can say once you master the traffic side of things, sales, targets and monthly projections become alot easier.

you may disagree, but I have NEVER see anything as quickly scalable as paid traffic, it can literally take minutes of you time, and I have done this numerous time.

For me it is Google based traffic, it is 100% free, if you do your programming from the beginning. Most website builders forget their SEO for the start and then it is too late.

If you need traffic today, it will not work, but if you want to get solid traffic, every day thousands, well this works.

There's no way you can set up a source of (long term) highly targeted traffic "in minutes" - no matter which method you use. It takes a lot more than a few minutes just to set it up, and then you have to track and tweak (actively manage it) so you don't lose your shirt on it.

Like I said, any method requires time. That's just a given.

By "scalable" I assume you mean that you can purchase more clicks and increase traffic volume and/or duplicate successful campaigns on different platforms. Correct? Meaning you can tweak campaigns to the lowest cost, and continuously increase traffic volume, yes?

I just want to make sure we're on the right page.

For an organic example: I sent out one Tweet. It resulted in over 1,000 people joining a private facebook group in a matter of hours. Over a year later, that (very niche) group has more than doubled in size with no other active promotion. Very simple example - fast, free, effective.

As another example, I spent 45 minutes writing a blog post optimized for a long tail keyword phrase. It ranked quickly on the first page for it's phrase (fluctuating between #3 and #6) and in the first 6'ish weeks it's made 16 sales.

Not impressive? It's ONE post, first couple of months, and sales are coming in consistently. About 7 or 8 years ago I spent 30 minutes creating a single web page and it ranked in the top three for YEARS for four different keyword phrases. It consistently brought in sales for years (until the product was taken off the market). I made *thousands* on that half hour invested - passively.

Consider how many pages, how many rankings, etc you would accumulate over the years, and how that translates into passive income. Paid traffic was never that passive a model for me personally - it had to be managed.

With paid traffic, when you stop paying you stop getting traffic. If I died today (ack!) -- I have NO IDEA when (or if) the traffic *and* money would stop coming in...

I don't disagree with you that paid traffic is a great source. Done right, it's an awesome way to build your business and see quick growth. But it's SMART to have an organic strategy in place as well for passive traffic & revenue sources.

In my 16+ years in business, there have been a number of times I have not been able to actively work. And fortunately that never affected my base income.

To clarify this example: I was new in this niche with a small but growing "following". The reason that one tweet had such great results is because I used a popular hashtag, which put it in front of the top Brand in my niche, and they then (totally on their own!) turned around and promoted my tweet/offer on their Facebook Page to *thousands* of targeted Fans.

                  BOOM!

Those 1,000+ new members cost me only a few seconds. Once.

I'm always up for Viral (long-term) traffic. Anything that entices other people to spread the message, count me in. One of my offers I setup about 4 years ago is still driving me traffic currently in 2013. It was a simple squeeze page style concept that in order to get the download, instead of actually subscribing, you have to either Retweet on Twitter, or share on Facebook to get the download.

Once someone shared and got access to the download page, it sent a pre-written tweet or pre-written facebook status update, starting the cycle all over again, so now their followers or friends had to do the same. I simply offered a very in-demand product in the make money niche and it went viral. I haven't touched it in years, and it's still consistently driving me traffic from Twitter and Facebook.

Sometimes it's not the traffic methods everyone talks about, because the traffic heavy hitters don't always mention their secrets. Sometimes it's the one's you personally think up, research, and create yourself

What is your SEO off page strategy for this method?

Do you add backlinks toward each blogpost link or not?

How long does each blogpost get ranked on the first page with your method?

I am glad to learn more about the SEO from you.

I have blog posts with high rankings that I wrote years ago. They bring in more traffic every year. For example, one blog post that was published in August 2008 (over 5 years ago). In 2010 it saw 31,883 visits from multiple long tail keyword phrases. In 2011 it saw 71,594 visits. Yes, more than double the year before. In 2012 that same post saw 104,264 visitors.

So the answer is: long term. Generic I know, but since they haven't started dropping yet I can't say "how long they stay ranked on the first page".

I use an organic marketing strategy - all free traffic (search & social). As for backlinks or off-page, I'm very organic/natural with that too. I am big on internal linking and deep linking, and content marketing.

[B]PAID TRAFFIC - is not GOOD, ITS EFFIN' fantastic, cause it targeted. but for paid traffic, you need to sacrifice some MONEY.

I too would rather pay with my cash than my time. Problem is, a lot of paid-traffic providers are anal policy wonks in a completely inconsistent and arbitrary way and have only form-letter customer support. That makes them unreliable business partners. For this reason, I haven't touched the usual PPC suspects for two years.

Media buys bypassing the major companies are a different story if you can get some good ones.

I spend about the same amount of time upfront setting up and tracking paid traffic as I do with my aggressive organic marketing strategy. The main difference being when you stop investing time. Organic keeps working.

If blog commenting and forum posting work for you, keep focus and master them.

I think forum and faccebook ads work best for me.

I used press release before and they worked pretty well too. Think to use them again in the future.

Depends on what "best" means, I suppose. For something different, let's let best = most enjoyable.

For me, marketing by blog commenting and forum posting is a tedious, mind-numbing pain in the ass, especially for opportunity-driven rather than passion-driven niches (I know, I know...). If my goal is to have dozens of niche sites, I really don't want to be sitting around posting to two or three times that number of blogs/forums week in, week out. (Nor do I want to be maintaining dozens of Facebook/Twitter/etc. accounts, for that matter.)

With traffic, I'm looking for a "set it and (kinda) forget it" approach. YouTube videos, for instance, have that quality. First-page organic ranking does for some people -- I've seen sites that haven't been updated in five years glued to the first page.

The fastest way would is to bum off sites that are easy to rank for competitive keywords ... youtube, facebook, twitter, blogger, tumblr, hub pages, etc etc. Grab exact match url's on those networks and put up some relative content.

Are you talking about posting back links? Or creating a keyword-rich domain name directed at your own website? OR a combination thereof, in the same place?

To get sales.. you need traffic, its like owning a shop and wanting sales but having no customers browsing inside your shop, if you want sales you need to have people looking at what you are selling (traffic),

To get free traffic fast that also converts to sales/signups:
      1. Copy and paste this into your browser
      is.gd\QyrNhO
      2. Select package one (free package)
      3. Enter your URL
      4. You will get around 50,000 visitors
      5. Check your web stats.. (you will be amazed)

Pros:- You get FREE TRAFFIC! You dont have to sign up!

Cons:- You can only get the traffic once, some sites dont work.

I think YouTube is a great way to get free targeted traffic, 80% of my traffic comes from YouTube alone. All you have to do it make quality videos that offer real advice and are useful to the watchers, then place your 'related' link to your website or blog.. make sure you have used YouTube's free 'keyword research tool' to find the highest ranking keywords and implement them into your video's tag's field (keyword field).. then you can boost your views by creating video responses to other videos with over 1m views and watch the traffic roll in.. you can also buy youtube video views to 'push' your video further up in the search results, I use website--marketing.webs.com for thats its pretty awesome, its cheap but dont expect to get rich from it over night. Build up your audience, engage in conversations, delete spam from your video comments and keep it fresh.. the more videos you have the more traffic you have, I get just under 200 visitors per month from my least popular video which is about how to use fiverr to make money. Try it out youtube is great for targeted traffic generation

There are many methods to get slow amounts of steady traffic to your website, such as organic and social. However in my opinion nothing beats paid traffic. You can start with as little a budget as you wish to use or can afford and can have instant traffic to your website in minutes.

I would have to say search engine optimisation is by far the best way to drive traffic and leads to a website. It takes a lot of time work and effort but its well worth it in the end. I like to call it passive traffic, you work once to achieve high rankings and the traffic comes in forever.

As like to have control over exactly how many leads I get I only use paid advertising. Through constant split testing and refinement, over time you can increase the response rate 4 or 5 times over what you started with. Once I have an ad that returns me 500% ROI I run with it and scale up the budget.

At the moment my favourite source of paid advertising is Facebook because of the control over demographic and exposure that you have. It allows me to get more customers at will and with an exact cost of acquisition that I can factor into my budget.

No waiting around for organic leads that may or may not come! Plus all organic leads cost you in time. Time is important to me and at the rate I value it at I'd never match the return I get with paid advertising with trying to create content and comment on blog posts.

When getting traffic targeted traffic is always better.

The key is to build up the readership first - so getting comments, likes, +1's, shares, retweets, etc is the goal. Google notices positive engagement and "buzz". The more activity, and the longer people are on your site, the better your pages/posts will rank - period.

He pays for his, and has built a massive list with paid traffic. He brings in over $100k (that profit) each month. He loves paid traffic.

I don't do organic or paid traffic. I'm a big believer in Joint Ventures and my affiliate programs to get traffic. I'm also a list builder and I can get traffic at the click of a mouse.

I build relationships and leverage other people's relationships. Who ever thinks that free traffic is slow is wrong. If done properly these 3 traffic methods can bring very targeted traffic in the matter of minutes.

Personally, i prefer SEO and Social Media. They both take times but they're free (or a little compare to PPC,...) , build your reputation, good for long term business. To get fast traffic, i recommand using affiliate traffic, you don't need to pay upfront, but hard part is to have a good product and high commission enough to attract Affs.

I agree that forum traffic can be good. I actually think it's one of the best ways to get targeted traffic, but it's slow.

YouTube is a great way to get traffic on autopilot. You do have to have a fair amount of videos up to really see clickthroughs to your site, but once you do, it's can be a good constant source of traffic night and day.

    1. Generate Traffic From Facebook groups

    3. Yiutube subscribers and views

I personally think that blog commenting and forum posting is the best way. What do you guys think the best way to generate traffic to your website is?

    Tergetted traffic
    G where the traffic is
    Free traffic from: Twitter etc

There are lot of great ways to get traffic to your blog – both free and paid.

For me the best paid method is solo ads.

The best free method is social media 2.0 sites and the best of these are:~

    • Twitter
    • Google+
    • Pinterest
    • Facebook groups and pages
    • You Tube

    As well as:~
    • Forum posting
    • Blog ''hopping''

These are listed in no order of preference.

Free methods are not really free as they cost time and time is money after all!!

Paid for ads cost money and so you really need to do some thorough research into the method you choose to use as a lot of people have lost a lot on money by not doing so and just throwing money at Facebook ads for example.

My method is less about building traffic, and more about building conversions and repeat customers.

I know you need traffic in order to get those things -- but it's wise to remember that "traffic" is not a bunch of nameless, faceless zombies out there in cyberspace. They're real people that need a real solution.

I think you can't name the best traffic source as each project is a different thing.

With that said, the solution is trial and error. Try every method until you find one that works.

As for paid traffic, it's great as it scales really fast but you really have to know what you are doing otherwise you are just throwing your money away.

Well you said number 1 way and there is nothing better than paid traffic, you couldn't touch paid traffic without hiring 10 blog and forum posters for you.
I have been in forums for 20 years. High days I have seen a 100 signups low days none. Very inconsistent and If I don't post daily and alot I see nothing.

Now don't get me wrong some people just starting out need blogs and forums and I use them also but as the number 1 source there is no way. I mean I have bought banner ads here which have produced the same amount of traffic in a day that blogs and forums have given me in a year.
