Building a List - Business Address?

Question for those who are list builders... Because "CAN-SPAM" requires us to put a physical business address in the emails sent out, do you use your own personal address? Or do most people buy a PO Box for this exact purpose? Putting ones personal address seems to be a little unnerving to me. Just curious what others do?

      Profoundly,

If you decide to use a P.O. box for your address, just be sure that it stays open while you use it for the purpose of having an address. Don't, for instance, put a box number on your web site, then cancel the box next month but leave the address on your site. That could be considered a deceptive business practice.

      Good luck to you,

      Steve

Definitely get a PO Box or another business address (I believe UPS offers this service, Mailboxes, etc - whatever you have in your area).

I had someone show up at my back door one night BEFORE Aweber allowed the use of PO Boxes (they originally didn't allow it). Very creepy. Given everything is indexed online, and once it's out there it's out there - I moved soon after.

I also have my landline billed in another name and billed to my PO Box address too. Important stuff given all the creepy ways people can look things up online.

Same with domain registrations, unless you're doing all private registrations. Use a PO Box, or anything but your "back door" home address. *shudder*

PO Box number is best choice for this,
it also looks valid to some people that you own one for your business.

I have a po box at a postal center that will sign for my mail, since I can't get packages that need to be signed for at the regular post office.

Plus I use it for personal address.

I can have several different addresses too for my underhanded grey hat lol.

I can put no number, no suite, a different number but it always gets to me.

I can do apartment number, suite number, house number, building number.

I also have a virtual address in NY NY, Canada, LA, Dont you love the net lol.

You can get a generic cheap po box for $16 every 3 months, I never check it but as long as I pay they can't do anything about it.
I know others that use an address for a vacant lot or closed business, you definitely don't want to put your home at risk (my wife watches to much "criminal minds".

I've gotten death threats mailed to me before but I do considerably more email than most people on here.

I do not use my home address. Its office address and street address PO box.

lol So do I. Not only did I move after my creepy back door visitor incident, I am cautious about checking my PO Box as well. I never check it on the same day of the week or same time of day. I vary it, and I keep a close eye on my surroundings. Sometimes I'll even wait until after hours and take my Great Dane in with me (the boxes are open 24/7 even when the Post Office is closed).

You can't be too cautious. And my paranoia is not unfounded. Unfortunately. There's a lot of weirdos on the interwebs!

Hmmm, which did you choose? A "business" or "personal" P.O. Box?

My soon to be merchant account also wants me to post a phone number on my websites! Yikes. I'm not so sure.

What do you all do about that one? Get a 800 number or something, or a Google number?

        Thanks!

I've been online since 1996 and seriously since 2002 and I have always used my real address along with my phone number.

My lists total to over 117,000 opt-in subscribers and that is in just one autoresponder and I have not had any problems all these years. I also get very few phone calls. I do get a lot of emails asking specific questions.

It doesn't cost me anything to use my real address.

I hope this has been helpful,

    Whois privacy

None of it matters. You can't truly hide. Internet sleuths will always find a way.

      Thanks for the tips.

It's not so much that I want to hide, but I don't want to be flooded with phone calls and people showing up at my door etc.
