I totally agree with you there,
your points:
1. You need to understand why or what it takes for traffic to convert
2. Yeah up sales do not necessarily benefit the original product, thay just make the other person quick bucks
3.Yeah webinars = Long sales pitch + sometime a golden nugget or two of information

Hi there,
This is interesting as I have been told the the reverse. However I am new and learning all the time. My simple plan is to provide a range of quality information to new starters, as I learn and make progress to share this, and build from there really. I have to say I don't enjoy sitting through webinars, I find it hard to learn that way. I have noticed however that some webinars have some content that the marketer only shares in there. I do want to listen to one of them, so i need to get past this.

I agree, especially with 1 and 3. Converting traffic is so vital to any business. Part of getting that also involves understanding just who your ideal customer is too.

And yes, it seems like at least most webinars are fairly useless.

I don't know what OP has in mind. Here are my thoughts on webinars and why I avoid them.

The first 5-10 minutes are usually wasted on technical chat about broadcast quality and greetings.

The next half hour might or might not contain new information. Maybe. But even if there is new information it is never the whole story. To turn that nugget of new information into something actionable (which converts traffic) you need to know a few more nuggets of information.....which, of course, you can get only if you buy something.

Very few webinars contain new information after the first half hour mark. The last half hour or more is blatant selling time.

IOW, webinars are sales pitches. They take huge bites of time. They tease, tease, tease. They are never the whole story. If you're not in a buying mood, don't bother.

Webinars are a great way to sell your product. Not a great way to gain information though as they're trying to pre-sell you on their product in 95% of cases.

I agree with #2 about half-way. Some upsells are valuable, but that's even more annoying because it should probably be included in the original then.

Webinars are tolerable (but often inconvenient) if they actually have content.

But if it's just +- a recorded video sales letter, waste of time and scheduling and a shortcut to my blacklist.

3 things I learned from this thread is:

1. Push Button System works the best.
2. Buy All upsells
3. Attend all webinars regardless whether they are live or not!

On a serious note, I agree that with anything we need converting traffic!

But some up-sells are worth the money and some webinars are worth attending!

Can only agree with point 1. Do you have any numbers to prove your other two points? Perhaps a case study? Because if it's an assumption, then it is dead wrong. Here's why:

Upsells can convert REALLY well and can enhance the overall value of your purchase. Secondly, webinars don't suck. In fact, they work extremely well when it comes to converting a high ticket product.

1. Completely agree, no matter how awesome your sales page is if no one is seeing it then you aren't going to make any sales!

2. This one I don't agree with so much, I've brought some good up sells that have work for me.

webinars are a huge time suck...I used to attend heaps but not so much now. I see a new trend with webinars is offers of gifts just to attend or stick with it to the end...a sure sign that they are losing their appeal. Webinars without a pitch are ok but maybe they aren't defined as a webinar...in im anyway.

Yep, agree with 3, although some are quite good.

But the ones that are quite good, usually hold back on what people really want to know, which is usually an upsell!

But, yeah, most have no fast foward button, so you have to sit through some crap about his rags to riches stint, and learn about his internet lifestyle, and learn about his hot wife and 2 dogs, blah, blah!

Then it usually becomes promising, but you quickly learn that he and his associate are just sugar coating a good, but expensive program of software, that typically has the, most will fail, and some won't.

In the meantime we string you along and make as much per month as we can, until you realise we won't run your offer past our life changing lists, and our help is conditional and limited!

Yeah, l have been at this for 5 and a half years, and eventhough l have likely found my pot of gold, it will still take a lot of effort to extract it.

So, it is a pretty good list, but l would add...

Short, sweet and to the point.

You've also learned the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) method in those 8 yrs.

#1 - I agree traffic and conversions are essential to success.
#2 - I believe some upsells are worth it especially for developer / PLR rights but I am very selective with upsells I purchase.
#3 - Webinars can be a good source of information but it sucks when they are a long drawn on hyped-up pitch for an overpriced product.

Wrong mindset to have. You are definitely not alone though.

But if you purchase a product and then ignore the upsell just because of your ego, you will often be passing up an opportunity to make the product you just purchased infinitely more powerful. So no, that is not always a smart business decision. If an upgrade is going to make something more powerful or more efficient then a smart business man would buy it all day long.

So I'll have to disagree with you on that one.. and with all the others who share that same thought. By passing up an upgrade opportunity, in many cases the only person you are actually hurting is yourself.

Have I passed on upsells before? You bet I have. Sometimes they are rubbish and/or not needed by me. But you won't find me having a blanket rule that I will never buy upsells because that's just silly. That decision has to be made on a per purchase basis. It's the only sensible way to do things.

Converting traffic is the bread and butter of internet marketing! You're spot on with #1.

As for #2, Some upsells are useful. Just like anything else you buy in life, sometimes you'll get the short end of the stick, and sometimes you'll have spent your money wisely.

And #3, webinars that actually convey useful usable information are valuable. However, I have sat in on some that are nothing more than one big marketing strategy.
