Best Free Blogging Platform?

Right.

So, I am thinking of starting a newbie business blog.

It's basically me writing/talking about my trials and tribulations in learning online business from a newbie level until I hopefully get some success from it and beyond.

I want to start it at no cost and there are plenty of good, free blogging platforms like WP and Blogger and many more.

Have any of you done this? How would you set it up?

What I would ideally want is to be able to autopost to many sites by only posting to one site.

I used to have a blog where I paid for domain and hosting and had wp, and could autopost it not just to WP but to blogger, tumblr and other sites also.

I am not sure if i can do it for free though.

I strongly advise you to stay well away from blogger.com/blogspot.com, and wordpress.com, and anywhere else where you don't own or control your own pages.

Good free blogging platforms include self-hosted WordPress blogs at Byethost, 000WebHost, Freehostia, or at various other well-established, reliable, advertising-free, free hosts where you're in control. If you don't even want to register a domain-name, they'll all give you a free subdomain, just like Blogger will. Choose to ignore people who tell you that free hosting isn't safe. It's Blogger that isn't safe.

    This post may help you.

If your planning to update your blog regularly than I wouldn't recommend blogger because they delete blogs too regularly due to Google's stern measures on tackling web spam. However, blogger would be OK for a smaller blog though as it's a nice platform with a good interface and fast loading times.

Id recommend the free hosting platforms as mentioned above.

Hi there, wordpress, in my opinion, is by far the best blogging platform out there. However, if your wanting to be ranked on the search engines, it's not going to be free to build. What you need is your own domain name which costs around $10 a year and hosting which usually costs around $10 a month.

Sorry, but this simply doesn't follow at all. The search engines aren't going to penalize you for hosting somewhere like Byethost. There are paid sites and free sites there sharing the same servers. Nobody will know that you're using free hosting. Not even Google. They're not even going to penalize you for hosting on a free subdomain. How your site ranks will depend on exactly the same factors that it would depend on if you were hosted somewhere like Hostgator.

Why do so many people believe this? Sorry to sound so argumentative, Fazal, but it's incorrect.

I agree about sticking with your own site because you'll retain control. You don't want to spend countless hours on your content at a third-party site only to find that they changed their policies (yet again?) and now your blog doesn't meet their standards.

I agree with the other people that have recommended to get your own self hosted site. I have heard a lot of horror stories about people spending a ton of time with some of the "free" blogging platforms and it disappears one day with no recourse.

With that said they can be used for feeder sites and or buffer sites.

My information on that question may be a little out of date, I'm afraid.

I believe that Byethost is probably the best and best-established host of the three, by some margin. However, I think you can't install WordPress there as a "one-click operation". (That's not the safest way to install it anyway, for security reasons, but if it's important to you ...).

I believe you can install it "with one click" at Freehostia.com.

Both those sites have various paid hosting upgrades available, which is quite a good sign because it suggests that their business model is to provide a decent service in the hope that their initially-free-hosting customers will stay for the long-term, and pay in future. (I know that many people do that at Byethost, anyway).

Another option with a reasonably good reputation is Hostica (not actually free, but they charge only $1 per month for one site).

If you can register your own domain, for about $9/$10 per year (not where you host, but somewhere like Namecheap or wherever), in the long run that's a really good thing to do. It's an asset, and it gives you more control, too, if you ever want to move hosts in future. But don't ever buy a domain-name from the company where you're also hosting the site. But you can always start off on a free subdomain at any of those free hosts we're discussing, anyway.

      Good luck!

    thanks alexa.

    thats some awesome advice.

Its just at the particular time I can't do the paid hosting, but will eventually. I just want to start the habit of having to right a blog on a regular basis. at least 2 a week for the forseeable future.

I advise you to buy a hosting and domain name and host a WordPress blog, and try to target a low competition keyword in every post you add, and get some backlinks to these posts to rank well in Google and get traffic. You can also get traffic from social medias like Facebook. Just start by creating a fanpage for your website and ask your friends to like it, then post your blogposts there and try to communicate with your fans. And if you are more serious about this you can start your fb ads campaigns.
Finally, what you should know is that you should have a plan if you want to get good results in futur. Nothing happens by accident!

Tumblr is the most up to day option. If you watch the serp carefully, you will find a lot of Tumblr blogs ranking pretty well in the first page. Besides, the moderation of Tumblr is not so strict, which makes your account at the safe place.

P.S WordPress.com keeps deleting your account if your blog post spamming links or low quality content.

I don't recommend for the free way. If you are serious, just spend some money on hosting and domain name.

In you case, if you really wanna have the free way. I'd go with free hosting rather than hosted blog at WordPress.Com or Blogger.Com.

I just wanna tell you that most of the links in the signature are trash and/or a trap to make you pay!

Yeah, signed up for byethost, will be setting it up properly over the next day or two.

I am planning to pay for hosting eventually. Just to double check - Will I be able to transfer my content from one domain to another easily?

if I do it free now, then in say a month I start paying, I can easily transfer it all across with no or very little rebutle or problems.

I don't think you'll need to transfer the content from one domain to another. I think you'll need to re-direct the (new) domain-name's domain-name servers from the place where you register it (Namecheap, or wherever) to Byethost, if that's where you're hosting the content.

The advantage of using Byethost, in these circumstances, is that you can always upgrade to paid hosting there, and they're a reliable and professional enough host not to have to move your content in future. I know marketers who've hosted many sites there successfully for many years (having originally started off on free hosting in the same place). It doesn't need to be just "temporary" hosting. And it's certainly far easier to redirect your (future) domain-name to the content than it is to move the content.

Take no notice at all of people telling you that your site "won't rank if it's on free hosting": it's utter nonsense - I think they must just be repeating something they've seen someone else saying, without thinking it through at all.
