Hello Everyone,

So, this is my first forum sign up and my first day and so far i am impressed with the diversity of topics and all the genuine and kind replies from the members to each other. Good job guys!!:p

Ive been sitting here all day reading through the threads and comments hoping to find what i am looking for but wasnt very successful so Ive decided to ask a question. Ive made the decision to become an affiliate marketer and would like to know where to start and what to do next!

Ive basically chosen a niche and did a few research. However, i'm overwhelmed by all the information online and i am stuck.

What do i need to do next?

Website? or just start blogging?

Should i start a facebook fan page or sign up for a few affiliate programs?

Should i purchase a domain name now or should i wait?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys. Thank you very much and keep up the good work!!

Start by signing up to clickbank. Then you can start promoting affiliate links a bit everywhere but dont spam and you should create affiliate sites if you have investment. I would suggest also starting a blog with WP before starting which will start learning you the basics of webmastering and IM.

Hello Fazal, Thank you very much for your advice.

Are affiliate sites the same as full websites?

      Thanks again!!

    Hey man,

Learn everything you can before you start actually spending money.

Search the forums (like you've been doing) and learn from others.

Then what I would do if I were you is get a good solid program so your not confused anymore.

There are a lot of good programs out there that can show you exactly what to do and how to do it.

I know a lot of people say you can just learn from the free info but you do get what you pay for. If you're paying for something someones going to go into more depth and detail than if you just got some free info.

That's why I say get a good foundation from the internet then find a program or a coach.

    Hope this helps

      Thank you Wealthyseven

Yes! i did read that i shouldnt spend money on a coach or a program because the world wide web has lots of free information. Then some say to buy a program or a coach. Talk about confusing!!

If buying a program is worth the investment then i will look into it. Thanks again for your advice

Well for starters, have a budget set up for at least the next 3 months for a hosting account and autoresponder account. (around $30-$50 depending on which plan you choose, try to go for the most basic one which will allow you to upscale as you progress)

    then i'd recommend following :-
    - get a domain name (this will be your web's real estate eventually)
    - start a blog (recommended but not necessary)
    - prepare a simple report (10-12 pages should suffice to give-away for list building)
    - build a opt-in funnel to collect subscribers
    - start building a relationship with your subscribers through email follow-ups
    - start recommending products

other methods for building your community and
    - join forum groups that in your target niche and start participating
    - join facebook groups that in your target niche and start participating
    - join google+ communities that in your target niche and start participating
*** you have to remember that for the above is only to interact and provide meaningful value and not as a platform for self-promotion. have links to you blog or squeeze page here (in your about section or as a signature link)***

yes... it's going to take some work but since you already have your niche figured out, you already have a headstart.

Remember! Forums and groups are for you to let people know you have knowledge about your niche and for participation. You have to build trust among them and you can be sure some people will start checking you out and what you have to offer.

    Cheers
    Chris

If you've done your research and chosen a niche market that you plan to stay in for a while, the domain name you choose should be kind of general but still related to your niche, so that you can use it to promote lots of products. If it's a niche you are actually a part of, start with a review of something that you've actually used.

You should also include some articles about stuff going on in your niche. A good way to do this is to find forums related to your niche and see what kinds of things people are talking about. Give your view point. Start doing things to generate traffic. After you start getting some traffic, you should also start building a list. This will act like a second stream of income for your blog.

    Good luck,
    Joey

Thank you for the advice Joey!

Do you recommend me using my name as my domain name? Will that be a bad idea?

      Thanks xxx

Good advice ^^^^ above ^^^^ Chris!

@Yuwn - You will be all fired up right now (which is great), but a lot of people lose motivation when they aren't getting results 'straight out of the gate'. This is when "Shiny Object Syndrome" usually kicks in. You need to have a clear vision of your goal (even as an affiliate) and keep your eye on this prize. Have a checklist of things to do each day and prioritize them in order of importance. Focus on doing one thing at a time on that list until it is done.

So do you need help with any of the Domain, Hosting, Autoresponders and other services?

Or are you already familiar with all those but just don't know where to start with generating traffic?

There are a lot of very educated and experienced people on this forum and most of the advice you are getting right now is gold.

While I dont want you to get stuck in information overload status like I did for two years, I DO recommend that you read quite a bit before you start spending money. Most course offered by "gurus" contain information that can be found for free in several PLR ebooks, forums like this one, and simply by doing your homework by googling different aspect of the type of marketing you are wanting to get into.

I agree 100% that just getting an affiliate link and spamming it is not the way to go. For one it is unethical and two, it will get you zero results. Trust me, Ive tried going that route for MONTHS when I first started out and I just got nothing in return but a lot of lost time and spam complaints.

The best way to sell stuff that you have an affiliate link to in my opinion, is to get them back to your own website where you talk about the product in a review type fashion and then have them click on a banner below to go to the corporate website to find out more information.

This is one option that has worked fairly well for me and converts a million times better than just sending them to your affiliate link. It took me a while to realize why this is but once I put two and two together, I realized it was because I was doing a presell, or softselling them on the product. I was informing them about it without pushing it. I let the manufactures website push it if and only if they decide to click on the banner below my review. This technique has worked well for me in the past but I have been combining it with another technique that multiplies the effectiveness...

The other technique I want to talk about is building a list. Instead of spamming your affiliate link in traffic exchanges, safelist mailers and such. Send traffic to a squeeze/capture page to get their first name and email. Nothing else.

The more information you ask for, the less efficient your squeeze page will be. I still cant believe when I see capture pages asking for your first name, last name, email, phone number, best time to call, mothers name, bowling average ect ect. It just get rediculous. I for one HATE getting calls from marketers as much as I hate making calls to leads/prospects. This is the age of the internet and email. Now dont get me wrong. Some people have great results using hte phone to add that personal touch. Its just not for me. I don't suggest asking for their phone number on a squeeze page.

Once you get them to opt into you squeeze page, you can send them to your website where you can soft sell them on an item or service in the area that that are curious about. But the beauty is, if they finish reading your article and click away regardless of if they go to the maufactures website or not, you still have a way to follow up with them. Your autoresponder takes over from there and will do any kind of followup you wish it to do at any frequency you want it to. After you have set up your capture page, review article, and autoresponder series, all you have to do from that point on is worry about sending traffic!

Hope this helps. As mentioned before, there are a lot of people on this forum who are much smarter and more experienced than myself. Listen to what they say. I can only speak of what has worked for myself.

      Best of luck to you!

Wow...those are some very useful tips. Thank you so much. I really need to do more research about all the technical part of AM ; squeezed page, autoresponder etc. Do I need to be really good at websites and all the technical bits involved in AM?

      Hi there,

I picked one, and I am still following that. However I did follow one of my mentors students as well. They were very similier in their approches, but one style of learning suited me better than the other. Either way, I got them from here and they were both great value

      Best wishes.

Careful of people who call themselves mentors.

Affiliate marketing isn't a path I'd recommend - Affiliate marketing IS NOT a business | Jim Cockrum Blog

Especially not with websites and blogs, Google hates that stuff and will sooner or later slap it down and dance on its grave (most likely). Your time's better off spent building your own empire with your own list, product or whatever interests you.
